@Luminiq1 you're a fag. Where the heck did you get that info? Sungha only started seriously playing at age 10, you faggot. and learn how to spell. You're just jealous that you can't play like him. And, he's going to get more girls than you ever will buddy.
@Luminiq1 are you mentally challenged? Sungha is amazing, with or without Ulli's help. you do know he arranges music BY EAR on his OWN and Ulli is just his inspiration and mentor right? your a derp
He is great. But is he going to study with a teacher and go to music school or major in music at a college. Will he want to do this as he gets older I wonder. He does a lot of cover songs what about other stuff. I know he has done some own songs. Does he read music? I like his music- we will have to wait and see were he goes when his becomes an adult.
Too bad that instrumental music doesn´t get the attention it deserves. I would start listening to the radio if Sungha, Andy Timmons, Tommy Emmanuel and other champion were on it
man, i feel proud of him - in a sense of a musicians pride. aside from his astounding technical level, he can really feel the music and the notes themselves.
Once, Sungha posted a video of him playing Tango by Ulli Boegershausen, a famous fingerstyle musician from Germany, people who watched Sungha's video soon started to contact Ulli Boegershausen for tabs, which surprised him very much because he has not released the tabs yet.
well, it'd kinda be like me goin on an Andy McKee video and saying, "Hmm, the way he uses triads here and major thirds their is completely brilliant, what do you people think about this?" my point it is that you can't possibly believe that everyone here, or even half of the people have solid musical training as well as musical knowledge. I'm not criticising you I'm just saying your asking the wrong people for a response. Of course I could be the only one who has no musical trainiing.

It actually takes about 10k hours of anything to be considered an expert. Idk if it's a commercial, intro to a show, or what... but it said that if you played 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 5 years, you'd have your 10k hours. The kid is just great... plus... such a young (asian :p) mind is like a sponge, man. And I'm sure he's disciplined, too. Way to go!
aqZNzMOBIE, WHY DON'T YOU READ HIS BIO? jwcfree, top right hand corner. He plays about 3 hours a day or 2 hours when scholl is on. He can memorize a song in 3-5 days. I know, it's weird, but, that's the way of genius's.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You are correct, I hadn't read his bio. And yet 2 to 3 hours a day is an extraordinarily large amount of practice. I'm not saying there's no talent there, I'm just saying that one oughtn't even try to compare themselves to him unless they ALSO practice that long, and have been for several years. Take lessons and practice like that for a few years and you'll be surprised how good you can become. *recalls something about genius being 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration*
You're not being serious, right? 2 to 3 hours a day isn't long at all, it's actually pretty standard (plus, it's actually 1 to 2, and only 3 on non-school days). A lot of the guitarists I know practice more than twice that span of time daily, and for many more years than Sungha's paltry three. I myself can practice up to four without noticing the time has passed, and I can't even begin to compare myself to Sungha. Plus, what takes me around three months to learn takes Sungha two days, (cont)
(cont) and with less than four years of playing/experience under his belt, I doubt I will gain so much as half of Sungha's talent even if I do practice as 'much' as he does. Plus, there is also the fact that Sungha is largely self-taught, plays by ear a good majority of the time, etc, etc.
Sungha usually learns how to play a song by ear/watching a video (aka without tabs/notes) in less than an hour. He then practices the piece for only a couple of hours before recording and then uploading.
I meant that's what he does for most of the songs he plays, not all. I got the information from the FAQ section in his site so I'm pretty sure it's accurate information. But of course, some pieces like Valse du Zenith, Goutte D'or, Ashes in the Sea, etc, etc probably take Sungha a bit longer, maybe a couple days to a week before he uploads.
If you think he uses tabs, find them. Every song (that is not a popular cover) has no tabs that are even legitimately close to what Sungha plays. Actually, even the popular covers don't have tabs like how he plays.
Can't you hear the extra licks and bass notes Sungha puts in? Can you not hear his style?
@Joey989898 he actually said so himself.. he said he'll listen to a song and take a couple of DAYS before he recorded them. because people have been asking him for tabs, and he said he doesnt use them.
@Joey989898 Check his channel info. He mostly learns by ear and video, but he will use tabs when the composers provide them to him. Also, he credits each and every arranger/composer in the caption under each video. Btw, he has a dozen or so vids of original compositions.
@myroutine@myroutine The song isnt hard...I thought it was and i liked it so I learnt it, and it only takes 20 minutes to really know where to play, then 30 minutes to have it as good as he has it...Then to put the video up takes like 4 hours, lol...But to learn it as he has it... For a good guitarist like I, him, many others, about 50-60 minutes without a break :D
@myroutine Are you mentally retarded? He takes anywhere from just a couple days to a week to learn. And by the way, if he can find accurate tabs, he said he uses them.
@buggld Wow, calm down. I got the information from his official korean website/fancafe when I left my comment- which was approximately two whole years ago, btw. Which coincidentally was when he WAS playing mostly from ear from watching videos/listening to audio and very rarely from tabs. Also, if you've seen any of his official radio interviews or television appearances during that period you'd know he said as much himself.
@myroutine I realize that your comment is 2 years old but even back then he took 2 to 3 days to learn his songs. He doesn't take just a couple of hours to completely learn a song and upload it. Not then, not now.
@buggld Like I said, I got my information directly from the source. Maybe not so much now, when his pieces are considerably more difficult, but then again, it's not me you need to believe.
damn, i've tried studying how to play the guitar for almost 15 years and i do not even come near close to this amazing child's talent. i guess, guitar playing is not for me.
This kid probably practices for many hours each day. You can do that when you're a kid. Unfortunately for most adults, we only have a few free hours in any given day, and to choose to spend those precious few working on something requires herculean effort and insane commitment to it. So I wouldn't feel too bad. ~_^
Firstly, he's gotten this good in part because he has been able to practice like a superfiend a luxury that is afforded to few adults thanks to the necessity for having food and clothing, thus we have to work for significant portions of our day. So assuming his skill made him millions, normal adults could hardly expect to be able to start and get that good.
Secondly, you appear to be under a misunderstanding of how much most professional musicians make on average. But I'm a nitwit. :(
does anybody know if he's playing a classical guitar? i know this may seem like a dumb question. but i would like 2 know :) great job jung keep up ur hard work.
ermm, no. those are not nylon strings. but his guitar is custom built, and probably adjusted to fit his finger picking needs. so maybe the neck of a classical but just a regular acoustic?
I think this is one of the most technically demanding songs he has done so far and he barely breaks sweat doing it. This song is written for a classical guitar but to play it beautifully on a steel strung acoustic is gobsmackingly good. I can only say I am in awe and envy of your talent ;O)

Does Sungha's parents ever force Sungha to play guitar?
Never! It has always been Sungha's wish to play guitar even when he was very young.
Because playing guitar gives him so much joy, Sungha does not need anybody's forcing. Sungha's father only aids Sungha to record and film his playing.
And by the way people, HE WAS BORN IN FREAKING 1996. QUIT SAYING HE'S LIKE 9 IN 2009.

I just recognized that he's got really long fingers - which is of course very good. I've got small hands. :-D

does anybody know if he's playing a classical guitar? i know this may seem like a dumb question. but i would like 2 know :) great job jung keep up ur hard work.

ermm, no. those are not nylon strings. but his guitar is custom built, and probably adjusted to fit his finger picking needs. so maybe the neck of a classical but just a regular acoustic?

I must see him live.

I think this is one of the most technically demanding songs he has done so far and he barely breaks sweat doing it. This song is written for a classical guitar but to play it beautifully on a steel strung acoustic is gobsmackingly good. I can only say I am in awe and envy of your talent ;O)

Thank you; personally I enjoyed your suggestions. You obviously are a serious student of classical guitar. I hope jwcfree reads your comment.
