I really liked the gesture! I thought it was sweet.

I think it WAS "real" smart. Everyone loved that move. It appealed to black and white voters. It showed an intimate, authentic side of an already popular candidate. And I may be wrong, but it looked pretty impulsive to me - I doubt it was orchestrated before hand. That's why everyone loved this. The white voters who would be turned off by this intimate gesture are racists who wouldn't vote for him anyway.
