@themusicdr I DO love, love, LOVE this Bruch..and Bruch is one of my favorite VCs..this is one of my top favorites for sure..one I love to return to and a reference point! Yet..so many I love..Leila's adagio..Mintz's recording on DG..they are all so different and magnificent..Francescatti's, Kyung Wha Chung's landmark performance..They are all so different!!! I can't choose ONE..this one is SO heartfelt and yes, distinquished..this one tugs at the heartstrings!
yes indeed, as i told you the first time i heard this 1st movmt i had goosebumps all over. i agree so many excellent violinists -all those you mention and more and bruch is the place for them to excel. but here (and in the tchaikovsky) mr varga has something, althoguh of course zino's tchaikovsky is great too oh i dont know at least we are open enough to appreciate many great interpretations :-)
@OriginalMoonbeam So glad you love it..and couldn't agree with you more..this man was definitely one of the greatest violinists of the century and I am so glad we both found him..his Tchaikovsky for me is in the top 3..That said, Francescatti has EVERYBODY'S DADDY on the passage right before the cadenza movement 1..no one in the world plays it like him..he actually picks up speed and plays it flawlessly..Mr. Varga I think comes the closest and then Kogan..Perlman plays it at a crawl.
Tibor Varga "phrases" music as no one else has ever done.
