  • THIS IS NOT.. I REPEAT NOT AN "ENTRY LEVEL BIKE".. Way too much torque/power for it to be an "entry" anything. It makes an easy 20-30 more HP than a KLR650 which IS an "entry" level bike...

  • @blackt0wer He might've meant an entry into an adventure/utility bike and not bikes in general. Who knows though, this review was pretty terrible.

  • Entry level? I'M really curious, what would you suggest to an experienced rider.. Probably BMW F650 is for 12 years old kids for you:)

  • Best entry-level is a 1000? Maybe for an experienced rider?

  • So nice to watch a review without some stupid overpowering music

  • Don't forget--minimal maintenence required, maximum reliability, and overall trouble-free nature make this the golden lab of motorcycling--excellent bike!

  • vÔll_geil_gëbt_mAl_bèÌ_gÓÒglÉ:_geldeasy_ÈïÑ_voll_krass

  • wtf that launch was pitiful

  • 1000cc entry level? So what would you say about 650 or 250cc?

  • thanks for a comprehensive bike review that wasn't full of atrocious guitar solos and douche-bags with frosted hair.

  • Just bought a used 1k, great so far. But my Ninja 250 will likely remain my urban commuter.

  • wow, what an incredibly dull review of an incredible bike

  • Just because it's sensibly priced doesn't make it "entry level."

  • @MotorTourerPA If you do not regard low priced as the definition of entry level, then how would you define entry level?

  • @ShakyUK Stripped down and low priced, with managable power and seat height for new riders.

  • i likes!

  • i own a V-Strom 1000. Great CITY BIKE !!

  • @motokev Have you done any touring 2 up on it? Like 1500 mile+? I'm interested in getting one but would like to know how people find 2 up touring.

  • Just bought a 1000cc V-Strom. Probably the best all around motorcycle on the road. I've had BMW's and have problems with both of them. If your looking for a adventure tourer/ dual purpose bike, get a V-Strom.

  • Nasty knocking crank tho'

  • Comment removed

  • KLR

  • I've owned my '02 1000 Vstrom for 2yrs now. Never a hassle, and because I'm coming from big cruisers, this bike is as agile as a snake! I've never driven the 650 version, but this 1000cc bike is agile enough for 2-up interstate riding! Have full saddlebag/trunk accouterments.

  • BMW might be the real deal, but for that price hell I could almost get two DL650s for that price. The V-Stroms are a budget Adventure tourer sure, but with some thinking & aftermarket stuff from touratech its not impossible.

  • Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 or BMW R1200GS?

  • Well, I can not tell you too much about Suzuki, even though I am quite sure that Suzuki is quite reliable. However, BMW lives forever.

  • except for final drive failure which can leave you stranded and broke in some unpleasant places.

  • one of the best bikes available! easy to handle, loves curves and is nicely powerful!

  • I've had an '02 Strom since new, 37k miles on it now. Love the bike....handles great in the twisties! Yea, it's a little more work than a DL650, but I love the power increase - the TRE upgrade really works. Had it up to a GPS verified 145mph. That's fast enough for me.

  • DL650 VStrom > DL1000

  • yup. DL1000 is almost more "clumsy" feeling than the 650. my dad has the 650 which i ride every now and again. i took a 1000 out for a ride, and it was almost like riding a hog. not very impressed by the 1000

  • My next bike

  • omg i want this bike so bad

  • im Choosing between Suzuki V Strom ( Touring ), GSX-F ( Sport Touring ).. and Harley Davidson Sporster ( Custom )

I love the sound of sportsters... but the V strom touring is superb due to that i love touring and driving around .... but THE GSX-f IS GREAT because its both sporty and good for touring

What should i get ?? Am i a custom person or a touring?? i feel like touring but i harleys are cool

  • i had a good laugh reading your message because i'am currently in the same situation. What bike to purchase? GSX-F is a good sporty bike but the sensible economic choice would have to be the V-strom.

  • i own a vstrom and a hd sporty.

it really depends on what you want out of a bike.

the hd , is a little bit maintence free, less to go wrong, belt drive is nice, also you can custom the bike to fit you, instead of you fitting the bike.

the Vstrom is all round good work horse, good for every thing, master at none.

the GSX-F is a comfortable, ride, but i would look at the equipmeant you can get for touring, before i would buy.

  • buy the bike that tugs after youre hart, dont get influenced on what everyone else is telling you to buy.

im currently looking at the new suzuki tu250, you may laugh, but i like the bike, so i know i will be happy with the bike.

  • What is better : VStrom or Honda Varadero?

  • Depends: V-Strom is sportier and lighter. Varadero is more confortable for pillion and a good tourism bike. They are not that different, but I think you can have more fun with the Suzi.

  • Honda Varadero for long driving...

    V Strom for faster driving..

But they are really similar along with the Transalp..

  • Entry level bike in adventure touring.... i wouldn't call a 1000cc twin entry. The 650 v-strom maybe.

  • I love my 2007 DL1000 It is one of the best bikes I ever owned. I have rode them all and owned over 20 motorcycles. I could have spent 10000 more on a different motorcycle that isnt any better and I dont think is as good.

  • this is a "sport" touring bike?

  • This IS everything! It's as a Swiss Army Knife: does it all!

  • Yeah try to stick some stickier road biased tyres (likeMichilin Pilot Road 2s or Dunlop Roadsmarts or someting) and it'll scratch, tour, whatever you want :)

  • I-ve got a DL 650 ´05. Just loving it! Great bike to ride, even with a passenger on. Mine is also a little twitchy on the lower part of the register (< 3000 rpm) You have to even it out with some clutch-work. On everything else, ITS THE BEST!

  • I've got an '04 DL650, which I love. Stock tires are not the greatest for off roading but it's a capable machine. My only complaint is a bit of wind buffeting from the screen but otherwise I'm very happy with it. About 45mpg is nice, too :)

  • I've got a 1000 too : it's a great bike, comfortable with a reliable and expressive engine.

    I'm loving it.

@Hydroptere : i've heard about this issue, but mine doesn't explode (yet?)

  • the 1000 is reliable but not easy to handle below 3000rvs. Does your "explode" below that range under the airbox?

  • That can be arranged by a new power map on the Suzuki dealer, or by instaling a power commander. It's like a big fart!

  • Have the 1000 and love it. Comfortable to ride but dont expect to take turns like a sportbike. Totally reliable..good bang for the buck...FZ1 also a very nice bike..

  • It might not be a sport bike, but I sure past a few sportbikes in the canyons when I ride my DL1000.

  • Hey, are these bikes as good on fuel as the 650

  • No. The DL1000 is a little more thirsty. I get in the 30's in town and high 40's on the road having fun and maybe low 50's if I am real gentle and go the speed limit.

  • It might not be a sport bike, but I sure past a few sportbikes in the canyons when I ride my DL1000.

  • Jeremy Clarkson should open a school on how to do a review. See Top Gear. He's the best for what he does.

  • @dob90210 pitty he hates bikes :-)

  • Had a cbr 600, drz 400s, the best is my dl650 love it. The easiest bike to ride.

  • Bought a Dl650 couple a months ago. Haven´t driven it yet because it´s winter but i´m looking forward to it! Just a couple of months more...

  • Got the 650 and it's an insane machine. Recommended at 110%!

  • Oh yeah!

    Dream comes trough.

    Cheers from Spain

  • Damn reliable!

  • Great Bikes, very reliable engines

  • Great motorcycle. I enjoy ours. I've had many bikes and the V-Strom is by the far the most motorcycle for the money. A great ride and value.
