  • ya now they only make plastic and fiberglass pieces of shit./ back then those old cars were pretty dam strong and those types of campin trailers are quite light

  • Go to Netflix and get a classic Lucy and Desi movie "The Long, long trailer".

Yes cars of that era pulled trailers of that size. If they didn't what would? There were no SUV's and only deliverymen owned trucks. I have seen the hitches they used and it just looked like a big claw that clamped to the steel bumper that was attached to a full frame. Of course when towing they maybe got 5 mpg. :-)

  • Some people seriously underrate cars. The #1 most important thing is stopping, and as long as you have good trailer brakes it won't be a problem at all. #2 is handling, and with a car this heavy again it's not a problem, especially with weight distribution bars (which he has). Believe it or not, power isn't nearly as important, unless you're going up a long or steep hill.

  • Good ol American muscle

  • wow that was some lame ass music that was being played in that car... pathetic

  • You have no room to talk minivan driving douche while playing gay music.

  • the older trailers from the 50s that these cars were built to haul weigh alot more. im guessing this rv is 4 to 5 thousand pounds. plus with the eq hitch this car isnt even breaking a sweat.

  • This combo is not advisable, especially in mountain terrain, forget it there. Of course the owners are getting away with towing that rig but in an emergency that car wouldn't be able to handle much of anything. It simply isn't made to handle weight like that. I bet the car goes through lots of tranny's and rear ends. 50's cars just weren't made very well mechanically like they are now.

  • Dam i though it was going to be a Volkswagen beetle

  • That car is built stronger, and has a bigger engine than any of the common crapboxes that are driving today. Look in the related videos. Even a classic Beetle can putter around with a trailer attached! ...and that's saying something!

  • @SeberHusky

That is such bull and you know it. Its not cars that got weaker, its people. Cars today are much lighter and stronger than ever. I just pulled a similar sized trailer with a rental 4cyl subaru station wagon, but just around the yard. It can do it. This is after I saw this video. It could probably pull on the highway, but I am not dumb enough to try it. That V8 probably only makes 150hp but has a lot of torque and weighs 2 tons.

  • probably weighs 5000lbs and has a big v-8 in it! father had a 64 ford galaxy 500 that had a hitch and trailer lights and the weight equalizer hitch setup. i dont doubt it could pull a TT

  • Wrong trailer.

  • If I was listening to that music I would have fallen asleep and Died

  • I have a cousin that pulled a 40' ft x 7' travel trailer with a tow dolly back in the late '50's and early 60's with a Chrysler and no trailer brakes. In 1962 he pulled it from Michigan out to California (and stayed there) no problem.

  • Couldn't tell if that mid '50's Buick was stock or not. Looked like it might be. Probably had a straight 8 in it if it was stock. And yes those Buicks (and many others) could pull large travel trailers easily. Most old trailers weighed more per lineal foot than today's trailers (discounting slide outs). Those old cars sat quite low and often had a tow dolly under the trailer tongue to take weight off the car. There were electric trailer brakes and also surge brakes back then as well. I h

  • the days when cars were solid metal with big powerful engines, not platics like today

  • haha thats one witty car

  • I hope that had at least a V8 & Electric Brakes! Cool lookin car!!!

  • Thats similar to the car that Ricky used to pull Lucy's long long trailer!

  • When my greatgrandparents retired they bought a 1966 meurcury maureder, 428 engine and a 10000 pound trailer. Hit the road and 3 years later when the came back to massachusets they had put 50000 miles on them. They sold the trailer and my greatgrandmother drove it until 1980(except when my greatgrandfather would top it out at 150mph on the highway to "clean the shit out of the carb" haha) when they sold it to my father. Its sitting im my parents garage being restored my my youngest brother.

  • Seems to pull it just fine to me. As long as he has good trailer brakes he shouldn't have a problem. Those old cars are built tough, and have nice big torquey engines.

  • lol good choice for song

  • that car is probably pulling that just as comfortable as a truck would be thoes cars were tanks

  • back in the day thats all you could pull a trailer with and pack the family along

  • For some reason, towing capacities differ from continent to continent. My 2000 BMW 540i frequently legally tows more than 4500 pounds in Europe, where here in North America it is limited to 2000 pounds. The power is plenty with the high-tech V8 onboard but I think it's a matter of liability and tendency to sue anybody for anything in the U.S. The same car, different towing standards. Needles to say that in Europe people don't use trucks at all, everything is towed with the familly sedan. It works

  • 20-30k unhill, easily? That's interesting. Sure, new 1 ton trucks can pull in excess of 20,000lbs, but 30k is pushing it especially if you're saying it was done easily. Towing ability is not only power, it's also the frame, brakes, suspension, transmission, drift shaft, differentials, even the weight the tires and rims can handle. Unless you're talking about something other than a 1 ton and referring to a commercial vehicle that weight is dangerous to tow. Yet, you call someone else ignorent?

  • Back in the day that was normal. Families used to pull RV trailers all the time because 1) the trucks of yesteryear were very spartan, they were meant to work and nothing else. 2) trucks back then also always only had single cabs and you could fit the whole family in the car. 3) cars of used to be very powerful and a lot were heavier then some trucks built today.

  • Yeah most people don't even know a mid 70's and 60's car weighed every bit of 4000 pounds which is almost more than a truck today. Those big impallas, chevelles, lemans, and other chevy and fords were known to pull the really long and big campers which most people call Mobile homes.. were talking 12x30 or more.. no problem and uphill.. most of them all had big block engines and 12 bolt rear ends.

  • People used to pull trailers with cars all the time, back when they had power and were heavy.

  • James Bond music!!! Nice one, Mr. Craig. Smashing.

  • well, that proves that these older cars are far better than these newer vehicles we got now..... old cars, trucks=best quality.... new cars, trucks=failure

  • that car is probably heaver and stronger than any modern day truck. thats when they made cars out of steel.

  • @thepopeis1 Heavier yes, stronger no.

  • @McDaniel1313 Actually he was quite right ... That car is heavier AND stronger than a modern 1/2 ton and probably most gas powered 3/4 tons ...

  • @Slamson2 Nope.

  • @Slamson2 No, I don't think so. Those old cars were powerful for the day, but today the outputs achieved by their V8s can be matched by todays 4s.

  • @12OclockLow I will put a 4x4 big block chevy up against your wimpy 4cylinder anyday.. horsepower and torque and throw that same motor in a mid 70's muscle car and see who blows a rod first.. 4 bangers and meant for plastic toys that can't even hardly pull a boat..

  • @freespeachrulez IF that is a big block, then I won't argue with you, but I actually don't think it is.

BTW don't be an ignorant asshole, as much as American engines have been known to history as powerhouses, that doesn't mean that engines are not being improved upon in every way, every day. If you want to have a friendly conversation about it, sure, but if you are just going to throw mud at me, then I don't really want to talk.

  • @12OclockLow That car has most likely been modified with a late model running gear like most in the street rod community do ... It could have anything from the factory inline 8 to a 500ci big block ... My Grandfather also has an Offenhauser headed flathead V8 in a '47 Merc that would some modern v8's to shame, Much less a modern 4 banger ...

  • Comment removed

  • @Slamson2 Fair enough. I guess I should have found out some more info before posting. But aside from the engine, what about the suspension on that car?

  • @12OclockLow The suspension can be modified very easy to handle the camper ... Plus the modern campers have the weight balanced for ease of towing ... I'm building a crew cab dually that will lay the frame on the ground when laid out and still be able to pull my 33' camper when the bags are aired up ...

  • i love the music haha

  • few things first modern truck are not plastic they do use material lighter then steel but alot if it is just has or stronger then steel second the car has a large 8 cylinder solid steel frame and the weight for towing the questions you should ask is the trans and rear end able to handle the extra stress from a heavy load and a powerful engine can the suspension handle the extra weight and lost but one of the most important can the brakes stop that thing

  • @erichmmiii I think he means toy trucks not real ones.

  • @erichmmiii use some fucking comas and periods. wtf did you just say

  • @jakesimmons815 i said suck my fucking dick lil bitch

  • @erichmmiii hahhahaahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • 1948 buick Roadmaster with 320 ci Inline 8 cylinder about 150 horses nice car. Pull period trailer than you have good video.

  • that camper is probably lighter than the one it would have pulled in its day

  • geez imagine the acceleration XD

its weird, we have more advanced technology and more power. But still, older vehicles can still hold their own.

  • back then the full size cars were a lot stronger than most trucks, so this would have been pretty normal, just weird to see it with such a modern trailer... lol, thats awesome, i would SO do that...

  • This is an old straight-8 Buick from the late 40s-early 50s. I can't tell the exact year. Until about the 80s, it was common to pull a travel with a full-size car with an 8-cylinder engine. Now people use trucks because the cars aren't strong enough. In the 50s, this would have attracted no attention at all. Very cool.

  • American made baby!! Lets see any import from this era try this

  • Excellent wheelbase, plenty of power, and all style... yep, looks like a perfectly safe tow to me!

  • Just dont build em like they use to.................Prime Example Right There!!

  • That was a nice Buick

  • MY truck is far from being plastic!

  • @AdamW582 Think again. Your truck is plastic

  • That car would probably rip most trucks in half that are built today.

  • Nothing unusual about an old car pulling a big trailer. Old cars like that could handle as much as a full size 3/4 ton pick-up truck could today...

  • I Saw this in Windsor SC one day and it was awesome! of course bein a car guy we turned around and chased it

  • Its a very deceivable car.It probably packs a large displacement v8 under the hood which means that it has a crapload of torque for that trailer.

  • That car is perfect for pulling that trailer. Giagantic engine and a solid steel frame.

  • Do you mind if I use this for the all new- YOU HAVE BEEN TRAILERED?

  • ur an old fucking piece of crap dan!..fuck u!!!

  • If Luck and Desi could do it with an old Mercury, that Buick should be able too.

  • I'd rather have my classic pulling the trailer than riding on it.

  • i saw this car when i was going down the highway i was impressed seeing that little thing pulling the big trailer

  • Old school, I wonder how big the v8 is in that car.

  • '

this old car is a good motor and automatic transmission,,,

    can pull a trailer home

  • old piece of crap

  • @dan88042 that old piece of crap could tare the shit out this new pick up trucks now days

  • he can pull that trailer, you plastic van and the red one in front of you... all at the same time

  • This car is allow because this is strong car and most older vehicles have V8 engine.

  • when those cars were made they could very eisily pull that

not they make cars with cheap weak steel and powerless engines

  • Too bad he wasn't pulling a vintage Airstream.... That would look cool.

  • Those old cars had huge torque engines in them and big heavy chassis.

  • Probably more capable then a new truck

  • Cool!

  • It seams to be pulling it pretty good. If it aint broke dont fix it. Just keep on going!

  • awesome

  • It looks fine to me! That car is probably a better towing rig than my ford ranger haha.

  • now those are the days when Americans knew how to make cars!

  • its like the movie "the long long trailer"

  • That car is better capable of puling a trailer that the plastic trucks you buy now.

  • @caniwitech douche

  • @caniwitech no, jsut toyotas, dodge, honda, lincoln and nissian

  • @Skipper72Productions Exactly what does that mean?

  • @caniwitech Your statement is ignorant to say the least. 350 h.p. and 800 ft/lbs of torque on a stock truck with heavy emmisions crap is way better capable of pulling than that piece of shit. Were talking being able to pull 20-30k up hills easily, not 3k like the camper in this vid

  • @FamCortez123 My comment was not meant to say older cars had more raw power than a newer diesel truck. In fact diesel trucks were not at all what i was adressing. Thank you for completely missing the point of my post, and replying a smart ass answer anyway.

  • thats Lucy ,Ricky,Fred and Ethel heading to california

  • BEST TOW RIG EVER!!!!!

  • You forget, that car was made back when they built real cars. People used to pull campers with cars all the time.

  • honestly its the most bizarre rig i've seen

  • surpised it can even go

  • Is that car even strong enough?

  • looks it

  • thats a cadillac with a true steel fram and probably 500ci so yea its strong

  • uh more like a 47 buick.........

  • @chainsawboy1996 that aint no caddy thats a 1951 Buick special straight 8 man makes me wish i still had mine=( caddy 500 did not come out till 68 but man them 50`s cars built well

  • @chainsawboy1996 thats a buick dude

  • @chainsawboy1996 it's a buick! ;(

  • yeah i would bet money that car has a bigger engine that most regular duty trucks on the road today, guarenteed that has either a straight 8 or a v 8 both perfectly capable of towing that trailer
