  • I can't stop watching this! I WILL learn this on the fiddle, and if I get my hands on a hurdy gurdy (or take on the daunting task of making one), I would love to play something like this. If only Nigel Eaton had kept playing his music! Is there a name to this piece that anyone knows of?

  • @technoditz it's called Laride, well it's based on a breton tune called laride, (there should be an accent above the e by the way), pronounced lariday. but this is just the basic 16 bar tune in the middle, i made up the rest obviously. I still play hurdy gurdy quite a bit, check out my facebook page for my newest tunes, might help send you over the edge into gurdy land? best N

  • Hurdy Gurdy plus Bagpipes would be really trippy. Like the Orchestra from Outer Space.

  • @avimmmbb Hurdy Gurdy plus bagpipes is absolutely industry standard for traditional French dance music! (maybe with a squeezebox too...)

  • now he makes furniture for a living! i weep!

  • so sick.

  • HE´S A GOOD HURDY-GURDY PLAYER

    & HIS HURDY-GURDY IS A FINE & GOOD

    SOUNDING INSTRUMENT.

  • Здорово!

  • thumbs up if you think this is good

  • whats the song called

  • Rock da house!

  • Nigel is such a great guy, and he is the Hurdy Gurdy man~~

  • ***FUCKIN SPOT ON***

  • I remember this tour... I also remember being FLOORED by the Hurdy Gurdy solo... I'm so glad you posted this!

  • Thanks for your reply Nigel and the correction re: playing hurdy gurdy at Loreena McKinnit. If you are doing HG workshops - would you mind posting some clips on You Tube. If you could that would be great. Many blessings in the New Year to you and keep blessing us with your wonderful songs on the HG. Once again, thanks for your reply.

  • This is a coincidence that I found Nigel today, as I had a discussion re: the hurdy gurdy with gurdymike earlier today - telling him I had the privilege of seeing Loreena McKinnit a few years back in London and the band had a wonderful hurdy gurdy player. Litlle did I know it was you, Nigel untile gurdymike told me. Gurdymike has one made my your dad - you must know gurdymike??? Many blessings.........wonderful playing, enchanting instrument.

  • @autumngypsy1 ha ya, thanks for your comments, wasnt me playing at the loreena gig though, i was in the audience though, I'd left by then. my mate Ben Grossman on gurdy. Yet to meet gurdymike, will do in feb though i think if he's going to my workshop weekend x

  • I saw them at the Garden, and the fact that Nigel created all those ubbelievable sounds with one, again for effect ONE instrument, just blew me away.

  • i saw this tour in Lexingtom ky it was simply the most amazing thing i ever saw esp. the hurdy gurdy

  • I'm so glad this solo is posted! I just love youtube..this was so incredible to see in concert!

  • i need to get one of these!!

  • Saw this show when it came to Knoxville... this solo melted my face! we still talk about it almost 20 years later...

  • i wish i could play erm something major kudos to the guy playing that thing

  • Dude is insane on that thing. How do you even start to learn that thing.

  • This is "Bitchin!"

  • Nigel Eaton looks a bit like Paul Rudd.

  • Well...that was simply extraordinary. Incredible sound. Classic sound. Beautiful instrument. I can imagine that the sound from it when powered up on stage must have been stunning. Bravo to Nigel Eaton. A very fine performance sir.

And as someone else on here mentions, don't pay any heed to the morons that happen to permeate YT. They're like pesky little bugs that need a good dose of RAID.

  • I was going to FW this to someone, who's a musician, but due to all the 12 yo pottymouths here, I've decided not to. What is it with YouTube?

  • amazing stuff! had never heard this one before...def a favorite!

  • love it! and i live 2 miles from this stadium, thanks for playing here!

  • I was the audio crew chief for Clair Brothers on this tour and recall this solo very well - it was an incredible blending of genres and kudos to Robert and Jimmy for allowing Nigel to present his art to an entirely new audience. Nigel glad to see your career take off with Loreena after this tour! Best, Steve Mackey

  • @notavivavineyards hey steve thanks so much for your comments, it was great fun wasn't it, brilliant pa and crew, I never had that sound power with loreena of course, i'm out of music now, been there done that etc, best wishes Nige

  • @nigeleaton1 I bet the sound was freaking huge! Feel it in your feet through the stage... beautiful playing, too, and the energy of all those people, never mind the kajillion watt mega sound system. WOW.

  • @nigeleaton1 when i saw this in lexingyon ky i was amazrd actually one the greatest concerts I ever went to i no longer go due to anxiety. Great performance sir.

  • @nigeleaton1 nige your a QUALITY hurdy gurdy player, i had the pleasure of seeing your solo when you and the guys played in the NEC in birmingham 95 best gig i have ever been to without a shadow of a doubt.

  • @staffo76 thanks mate

  • dude it would be so sick to be that guy... fucking touring with led zeppelin hes probably from india or some shit and now thousands of people are screaming at him.

  • @Snakepit4321 i doubt he's from india you fucktard he is called Nigel Eaton u little dickhead

  • @MixxMasterKid LOL wooahhh buddy someone needs to get the stick named Nigel out of his ass!

  • @MixxMasterKid you probably have a little dickhead. lmao

  • What an alien instrument! It's such a big sound coming from a weird little thing. It's so amazing! My jaw literally hung when the bizarre sound of it started playing!

  • @scartissue94 AFAIK (but i could be wrong :) )his hurdy gurdy is an acoustic-electric instrument jampacked with electronic effects. iow: slightly modified als suisse harpplayer Andreas Vollenweider would say.

  • I never thought I could watch a video with Robert Plant in it and be blown away by something else! :O I could listen to this 24/7

  • So the man plays hurdy gurdy. Big deal, lots of people do, we have a hurdy gurdy player in our band. Just because Plant invites mr Eaton, all of a sudden the hurdy gurdy has to be hyped. Poor people. No disrespect meant for Nigel Eaton BTW...I love his playing.

  • @tishierkrisis u dick

  • @tishierkrisis i wouldn't say "lots" of people play hurdy gurdy. Where's all this Hurdy Gurdy hype then?

  • this melted my face when i saw it on the page plant tour.....

  • I love this song. Does anyone know the name of it?

  • @tejeni It's called "Laridé".

  • @tejeni It's called "Laridé".

  • Nigel is one of the best contemporary hurdy-gurdy players. Too bad some of his early recordings are out of print, especially his work in Whirling Pope Joan.

  • Magic.
