I do flight training from North Las Vegas Airport (KVGT) too. And I had a similar experience once. We were on final for runway 12L when we were told that traffic was overtaking us and we had to switch to 12L. We did and were told to watch traffic to our left. While we did that, a Dash-8 about 10-20 feet TO OUR RIGHT zooms by. We were in a cessna 172 so that was very overwhelming. We actually had to go around because of all the wake turbulence.
Well today I was flying hood, I was in the ILS 12L around 6 miles for touchdown already established on the localizer and everything, suddenly I hear my instructor say woow! I look to the right and an ATP Seminole just passed beneath our right wing less than 60 feet, I was surprised because the seminole nor the tower say anything, apparently only my instructor and I were aware that we almost collide with this seminole, this was day VFR clear skies.
No We didn't.Classic high wing below a low wing plane...Above and behind us I couldn't see Him. I just caught a glimps of him as he passed. I was inputing the just recieved Transponder code in and just happened to have The Video camera rolling with a minerature Bullet camera attached to my headset.
This is crazy.....this is the classic high wing, low wing visibility issue....remember that flight following is workload permitting...if you were on flight following however..then this seems to be something the ATC should have called out....you guys are lucky. stay humble and fly right!
The other guy dad allready gotten a transponder code from KVGT and I was in the process of plugging in my code. But, No, we were not on flight following and I don't go anywhere without it anymore.

High Wing Cessna Below a Low wing, = Fail. Both Blind spots make it impossible to see the eachother's airplane.
