Hi Mikey, I absolutely adore this pattern, thanks for sharing it!! I've created one for my niece who's fav colours are red, pink and purple...wasn't sure the colours would blend together, but gave it a go anyway, think it turned out beautifully and can't wait for her to open it at Christmas! I love your colour combo in this tutorial that I've bought similar colours & have just finished 2 baby blankets in them, one for a new great nephew and one to donate to a local hospital. Thanks again!! xxoo
@AhmaAhpa100 hello this is chanel @mikeys helpdesk....its hard to say exactly how much yarn you will use but for a baby blanket I would start with 2-3 of each color and then get more if you need it!!
Hi and thank you for your great tutorials! I am a beginer and would like to know the best size crochet hook to use. I see that it appears as though you are using the same hook in several of your videos. What size do you use? Thank you so much!
Im a beginner and have the regular stitches down well. I can learn how to do this but I need you to go a lot slower and show me exactly how to do the pin wheel and ill be golden! lol. I just started crocheting 2 days ago.
@lameexcuse17 hey this is chanel from the crochet crowd helpdesk aka mikeyssmail.....unfortunately there is no way to slow down the video and it takes a long time to make the videos! what I do is just keep rewinding the video over and over til i get it.........
thank you very much, a´m chilean, but , I can´t the pattern, me lo podrias mandar escrito a mi correo please en español, además te agradezco todo los tejidos a crochet que haz subido, mi correo es jljj1976@gmail.com.
I have made an afghan with this pattern with the following colors: red white and black. It is very nice but not quite as nice as Mike's. Your color choices are just out of the world. Thank you for sharing your skill.
IF I didn't tell you before, I want you to know how special you are... the love you put into these videos is just amazing to me, what a gift to so many people. I learned to crochet last year because of your gift, I'm 52 and just love it. Thank you !!
I was just wondering but, can I use a size J hook instead? I'm going to try and run to AC-Moore and try and get a K hook this weekend. Most of the crocheting I do is with the smaller hooks. The largest I have right now is J. But I think I might try it anyway because I'm not sure if I'll be able to run to the store & get a size K. I'll let you know if it looks good though! I hope it does!! :)
How do you determine how much yarn a project will take? Do you have the amounts for this wavy shell stitch blanket? Thank you for your excellent instructions.
@mikeyssmail Hi again sorry to bother, unless it is a trade secret I would appreciate the name of the shade of yellow being used as I have to order it on line. I've been to (5)Walmart, Target (no craft dept.) (3) Hobby Lobby and K-Mart(no craft dept.) with no luck. It looks like RH Kids Yellow but that just a guess and probably wrong.
Thie is not a pinwheel it's called shell stitch and if you look it up under it's proper name you will find a tutorial video that will show you how to do this stitch propely and it will be explained easier. This stitch is NOT suitable for a beginner the pattern is too complicated for a beginner. If you're going to make a vidoe give people the proper name of the stitch or they will never learn properly. On another note, this pattern is nice but you need to learn to explain things properly.
Hi Mikey, I don't usually comment on youtube videos but I want to tell you that you inspired me on the blanket that I'm making (my first project ever) but somewhere I went wrong. My blanket began to curve. But, I kept with the design of the pinwheels with a multi-colored stitch. Then I added a solid color with a double stitch. I don't know how it's going to turn out but thank you for the inspiration.
I am brand new to crocheting. I started to make this blanket last night, but now that I am six or eight rows into it, I'm wondering when I am done with the rows, how do I finish the edge? Is there a video for that that I'm just not seeing? Thank you!
you could double crochet all the way round the edge for 2 rows remember to chain 1 stitch for each double crochet you do round the corners or it won't curve properly :-) or you could do one row of double crochet and 1 row of shell stitch (this guy is calling it a pinwheel for some stupid reason) that would look really pretty. Good luck with it
thank you, i tried to make a similar afghan following a free leaflet i got @ michaels and was so confused. i repeatedly ripped it out and was so frustrated. i printed up your pattern and watched your tutorials and i am doing great. thanks again!
I find the Video very helpful, but like everyone else, I think you need to slow it down a bit. Keep making the videos, because you know what your doing c
Everyone learns their own way; I taught myself to crochet and found out about 30 years later that I didn't hold the needle the 'right way', or form the stitches the 'right way'. I still get the work done and very well I might add :)
@mikeyssmail I crochet the same way, and my mom just can't figure it out! She uses her hook to crochet, and I'm all fingers. BTW, the stich you used to make your half pinwheel is a double crochet :P You seemed to ignor the name of the stitch and jsut say "do this!"
Hi Mikey, thanks for putting up video on such a beautiful blanket. Could you please tell how much yarn would it take to do blanket for a queen size and/or twin size? Thanks!
i enjoy watching your video's i learned so much from you. I learn from my mom to but when she die 2002 i really don't have anyone to teach me how to do things that i wanted to learn. one day i saw your video
and i was maze on the tale that you have. I wanted to know if you will help me.
my dad really wanted mt to make him a blanket and sense this is such a cool stitch and its in video i said how bout this one so he is going to commission me to make him one (its so great considering I'm so addicted to crocheting)
what size are you thinking off... I've received a lot of response asking of the same thing... but I am not sure what size to demonstrate.. baby girls is the most popular thus far!
