@CrazyForPianosGirl its not hogging the position if shes the only one fit to do the part (age appropriate, non-womanly body, etc). Plus, if she outshined all the others who probably auditioned for the position then bravo for the kid for doing it two times in a row!!!

@Nisa527 Well, in such a decent size school like anaheim, i am sure there are many girls who can do clara and are age appropriate, however, i'm not sure how to take it when you said non womanly body, is that an insult? ballet should'nt be so stereotypical to only choose those with no boob and no butt dancers. its not right. and I am happy for Austin, but just that i feel that other girls should have the chance to experience the clara role.

@CrazyForPianosGirl Well, Clara is a young kid and is even portrayed as a child. So its not on the stereotypical side, more on the suited to fit the part kind of thing. I've been dancing since I was 8 and in ballet for some roles, your features are taken into consideration, it shouldnt be taken personal or as an insult. Besides, if someone is good, they will stand out from the crowd, even if they arent the leading role (:

@Nisa527 but what do you think the professional companies do? do you think they have 11 year olds? no, so they of course choose adult dancers, as long as she can portray the liveliness and innocence of a child or teen, thats perfectly ok, i just think that someone else could have an experience of being clara instead of Austin all the time, she of course will benefit of having the experience of other roles too, when she dances porfessionally, those will come in handy :)

@CrazyForPianosGirl Well at least in my dance company, when we are short on male dancers, kids, etc. we bring in other dancers from other companies and I believe most or if not all other dance companies do the same. Im not against adult dancers doing the part I just think that if she can do it then, no biggie. We(my company) also had the same Clara two years in a row. Besides, all Clara does is get chased and sleep, I personally like the spanish and chinese dances best lol

So exciting... Bravo! I could watch Anaheim Ballet videos all day (some times I do). I used to dance many years ago with South Coast Ballet who eventually evolved into Anaheim Ballet. I notice many of the costumes and props are the very ones that we used when I was in the Nutcracker. Oh, how I miss it! Austin's technique has gotten so amazing-- look at that arabesque en pointe!! Stunning, merde to the cast, and may the crew hold onto the curtain ropes tight! (that's what the actors told us when I used to do HS set crew)
