Thanks so much for this, and the other JP covers. After years as a flatpicker I decided to teach myself some easy finger picking. What better than to stumble on to your JP covers, which are excellent!
@Labrabob I sent the audio file to my Kiwi friend Jill, she recorded her harmony on top of it and then sent it back to me here in Canada. I then put that audio file on top of the video, and voila!
as i have posted on some other peoples youtube sites you too are the reason i love youtube.love all your covers and am learning so much from them.Thank you
i love this song. if only every couple could hear this when they are feeling indifferent. so much good could come from the melody and the words of this song.
In the meantime, could you please post the fingerpicking method for this song? That is, thumb, ring, thumb, index, etc.? I can't figure out how to do it and keep the thumb going. Thanks!
Start off playing *any* Travis picking pattern for a G, C and D chord until your thumb and fingers get used to working together. It's a case of sheer repetition and practice to get it, because at first, once you do a finger pluck your thumb will get confused. Try playing any simple G pattern for 10 minutes straight at first, then do same with the other 2 chords.Don't try to play the songs until you get the thumb and fingers feeling comfortable playing a pattern for each chord. Just a suggestion.
It's on my list of New Year's resolutions to finally get around to doing that video. It's largely planned out in my mind, so I just need to overcome a bit of laziness- which can sometimes be quite an obstacle.
Great Prine cover Ian. Love your guitar picking here and wonderful harmonies by Jill..It would have been a perfect video if not for that damn Leaf jersey : )
Jill did a great job despite our distance and technological hurdles, and really made this song come alive.
But show some respect to that old sweater: it's Mike Palmateer's #29 jersey- he led the NHL in playoffs shutouts in the 77/78 season, and still holds the Leafs' goaltending record for most career points, most career playoffs points and most season playoffs points.

Hey Jordan,
After listening to you I realize I got some improving to work on. Who's that lovely
female vocal with you?. Both great !!
Best,
JKM

That lovely harmony vocal is my NZ friend Jill, who sang along with me from thousands of miles away. (See the notes for this vid.)
I just listened to your "Rusty Old American Dream" BTW, and I'd say your improvements have all been worked on and worked out just fine.
I just subscribed.
