  • Love this scene...sow cute when they first see each other ^^ <3

  • In the widescreen video of this Russ/Riff ended up way in the back as the lights came on again and he could be seen walking a long way to the right towards the front with A-rab. Bernardo was in front of him in the back who somehow got to the front quickly.

  • Natalie Wood can dance a little, but simple steps only it seems.

  • I love this scene because it makes me think of my fav anime couple doing this and kissing without their own family pushing them away.

  • such a beautiful scene!

  • at 2:56 the background people start doing the Nazi march...

  • I love the song so much!

  • like they knew each other in last life or something...it happens a lot in real life, believe it or not

  • this is some unique mating dance in my eyes. LOL.

  • Im sorry, i love you Bernardo and i cried when you died...but you weren't needed here :) they were getting along perfectly without you!

  • i'm watching this in music class and when i saw this part i said out loud "man it's a good thing he decided to go"

  • @BigTimeRushLuva Well, depends on your perspective. There is the small matter of what happens to him at the end as a result of meeting her...

  • @kaikiyukionna27 i know i realized that today because we finished it today and now i'm like why must they hate eachother because of race?

  • I seriously love this scene. I happen to be doing West Side Story for my musical at school and the two people playing Tony and Maria are so cute together (:

  • If I could only go up to a lad that i like, and this would happen. True love right there!

  • Oh my god so romantic.... I want this to happen to me minus the forbidden live and gangs and killing!

  • They've met each other for like 2 seconds and suddenly they can just say the most deep and meaningful things ever...this is why i love musical

  • if only love was actually this simple >=\

  • Haha I just love it when they snap :)

  • I love the way Tony is telling about how his meeting with Maria is so beautiful. That he could feel, that it was meant to be. And then she just says "My hands are cold!" hahaha, I really laughed!

  • I saw this @ the Hollywood Bowl this month with a live orchestra, it was so beautiful!!

  • When they music speeds up as they slowly lean in to kiss...My God, my heart...

  • This music is just so gorgeous, i love to hear it. The writers really captured and combined the classical - dance music and the first meeting music perfectly.

Tony and Maria XD XD XD!!!!!!

  • this scene gets my stomach in butterflies each time...sometimes it's so beautiful this scene it would get me emotional inside....dont know why..

  • loveee

  • I don't want the scene to end! It should just keep going on and on and on...

  • @Disneyballerina Very True. The music at their(Tony and Maria) meeting is so peaceful. I could listen to an orchestra strum that tune all day.

  • Such a beautiful little dance they do. So adorable. :)

  • "You're not makin' a joke?"

"I have not yet learned to joke that way. Now, I know I never will." I get butterflies in my stomach watching that!

  • @Vanny222 You're welcome!

  • I like how the rest of the room just becomes a blur to them when they see each other. :)

  • @groovyme77 It's a very cool effect. It's like a symbol of how the rest of the world just is non existant to them and they are the only ones alive.

  • @groovyme77 It's also largely a reference to early cinema techniques. Back in the days when cameras weren't mobile enough to move in and technology wasn't advanced enough to zoom, editors blurred things out to draw audiences' attention to specific images within a scene. Though this was not necessary in th 60s, it was very popular among filmmakers - very chic, retro, etc.

  • Cute dance! :)

  • is that richard beymer as tony??

  • @spong11234 Yeah...

  • @RoseOfPhantom BEN HORNE FROM TWIN PEAKS!!!!!
