  • I love the Golden Girls. every time i see the end when Sophia said My Baby is Gone.. i just break down and cry every time R.I.P. ESTELLE GETTY AND BEA ARTHUR AND RUE MCCLANAHAN! BETTY ...

  • 'Brenda vacarro...! whats happened to her ?

  • @bossyboots55 OMG, now that you just said her name is like an alarm ringing in my ears...she is the lady who played Bianca in Suergirl right?...she was great in that:-)

    Davidx

  • @bossyboots55

I am not sure about that but i loved her acting. and she had that raspy voice. I also remember she was michael douglas' girlfriend for a long time...thats how old i am:)

  • just that one line makes me tear up

  • Okay, who started crying when Sophia said "My baby is gone."? :(

  • whats the name of this episode?

  • @gussy1d5 Ebbtide's Revenge is the name of the episode.

  • God, that broke my heart when she said " my baby is gone " :(

  • That was the very first episode of Golden Girls that ever made me cry. God it was funny as hell but so sad. Sophia put on a great performance, it was like she was really crying and i cried for her.

  • this episode was on today on tv tropolis (i live in canada) and i tell you when sophia said that about her son i cowered like a baby. for a strong european woman (i know its a show) to be so strong and then to say those words.....my family can relate.

  • this ending was prob. the saddest of the series...next to the finale.

  • @KayakMan003 The ending to the episode 'Old Friends' was also heartwrenching. :(

  • That reign deer really know how to fly lol lol lol lol.

  • This scene always makes me tear up.

  • Has anyone noticed that the girls's shirts look like a traffic light? Blanche is green, Rose is yellow, and Dorothy is red. Somehow it seems as if it fits with their views on promiscuity (and i probably didn't spell that right) Blanche is all for it, Rose is kinda hesatant, and Dorothy just can't get a date. HAHAHAHAHA!

  • When I die, the first people I want to see besides my relatives are the Gold Girls. :)

  • One of the most heartbreaking scenes ever, if you can watch this and not have a single tear in your eye by the end, you have no heart or feelings at all.

  • @JMcKenrick yeah it is.it just made me cry.

  • what episode is this from?

  • @mrssheffield2 "Ebbtide's Revenge" season 6.

  • I was straight faced until 'your check BOUNCED' then I burst out laughing.

Then I saw Sophia stand up, and cry. And I burst into tears.

  • You gotta love Angela's face @ 6:24 as she sits thru her only "St, Olaf Story"! lol!

  • That last part never fails to make me cry. I love these women!

  • I cried so hard when I watched this. :(

  • I'm straight and 17 years old. I grew up in the streets. Therefore, i became though and numb. But when i watched this episode(BTW, i'm a BIG GG fan.) I cried until the credits finished. This is the most phenomenal episode not only in the golden girls. But in all of the whole TV series before and today. It's comedy is way ahead of it's time. It's amazing. When sophia said her baby's gone. I wept. Because i was able to relate. Rest in peace Girls. We love you. :'(

  • OHHHHHHH!!!!! this is to sad to live!

  • Awe i cried when i first seen this episode

  • Third time and I still cried! sophia reminds me of my Grandmother so much.

I miss Nanny Bradshaw and Estelle Getty :'(

  • I watched it twice and I burst into tears both times.

    I love Sophia x

  • 7:03 to the end......Tear jerker!!

  • I tear up whenever I hear Sophia's voice break. :'(

  • Man, Rose can sure be funny with her St. Olaf stories, but then there are times like this when they have an actual point to them and can help someone.

  • Can't help tearing up at that last line. This show was so authentic in issues and emotions and so consummately well played by these four women. Of course, the script writer deserves lots of credit too -- these were some of the best written stories around, and still are.

  • omg i cried... poor sophia!!

  • There will never be another television show like the Golden Girls. I never get tired of some of these episodes.

  • Three weeks ago, I was in Los Angeles and discovered that the Hollywood Forever Cemetery was a short walk from my hotel. I went grave-hunting and found Estelle Getty's grave. She was an amazing actress. There will never be another like her. The same can be said for Bea, Rue and Betty. No one holds a candle to them.

  • Geez, don't watch this if your own son has died... *sobs, wipes tears from eyes*

  • This always gets to me.

  • didn't that woman play Joey's mother on friends?

  • @platinumblondebiatch yes she did, and joey´s dad was also once on golden girls but can´t remember which episode...

  • @beekgirl Actually, it was six episodes before this one. Robert Costanzo, who played Joey Tribbiani, Senior on Friends, played a high school coach whose star quarterback was flunked by Dorothy.

  • @platinumblondebiatch Yes, that is the woman who played Joey's

    mom.

  • God, Sophia is so nasty in this scene.

  • This was horrendously difficult to watch. Seeing Sophia break down and lose it...what a great actress.

  • i get chills all over everytime i watch this

  • this is one of my favorite episodes, not to mention scenes. i always cry at the end...

  • aw poor dear.

  • most emotion scene in the entire show, it makes me SOOO sad and i was barely alive when this was on tv.

  • "She's shy---in a obnoxious sort of way." Priceless

  • I think Betty White did a good performance too. She showed both Rose's naivete but also her understanding of the human condition.

  • This episode always makes me cry. But i always wondered why u never see Phil. You always hear about him, but they never put him in an episode. You see Gloria in a couple of episodes, but they couldnt but phil in at least one episode before he died.

  • I often wonder about that. My guess is that it would've been hard to pull off. The writers probably didn't want to risk making Phil look too clownish.

  • I hate the real voices

  • "Two million dollars for Phil?? Wasnt exactly a buyers market was it?"

  • Just adding that I'm glad that it was Rose who got Sophia to open up instead of just being clueless for no good reason (which they had her do way too often towards the end) . Why were none of Phil's kids at the funeral or even said to have sent regrets? Lastly, I wished that someone had pointed out that while a husband's family was meant to profit from a dowry, the original principle was supposed to revert to the WIDOW upon the husband's death. In other words, Angela owed HERSELF $49! LOL

  • @ItBrandonSilver What? Did you watch the entire episode?

  • @Mktryk Actually a dowry is given to the grooms family. When the custom is that the groom's family gives the bride's family something in return for the marriage, it's called a "Bride price".

  • What a cathatic performance by Estelle Getty! Going from being unusually hardboiled to finally taking off her armor and admitting that she had misplaced guilt all these years- and FINALLY letting herself acknowledge having truly loved her son and the pain of having to bury him! Throughout it all, Estelle managed to keep Sophia from being unsympathetic to the viewer (no mean feat- considering how rottenly she was treating Angela!) Yeah, she reminded me of folks I've known, too.

  • This episode gets me everytime. Every SINGLE time.

  • This is the only episod ethat made me cry cesides the last one.Breaks my heart.

  • "Beans.....I'll have you know it was the biggest pumpkin of the season". Just hilarious.

  • this is just so sad because you're not accustomed to taking sophia seriously- she's always the one cracking a joke or making fun of someone at their expense. so to see her crying is just all the more sad :(

  • It broke my heart when Sophia said*My baby is gone*:( So heartbroken,

  • This was the best scene!! it has everything laughs, tears...stupid comments by Rose...

  • a m agrown man but i do cry cuse i see my mother when she lost my sister cuse of cance

  • I cry EVERY single time she says that. Every time.

  • I have been watching Golden Girls since I was 16,and I don't hink I can ever see or have another show that is better, that does cover everything. If I was on a tv show,if it wa less than this, I would never do it. And this makes me think of my grandma and my uncle ho died before she did,it's so hard and she never got over it. But this handled those topics in the best ways.

  • me too:) I have been watching this since I was 16. As strange as it sounds, my life was falling apart. Golden Girls was among the few things that brought a smile to my face. I love this show:). I love Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche and Rose. They felt like friends that came into my life and made me laugh. .even for a little while:).

  • my eyes well up everytime I see this clip.....sophia is wonderful!!

  • Even better is that Rose, in her way, finally tells a St. Olaf story that makes sense & actually does some good. She speaks the gospel truth about not letting the past get in the way of moving on with your life.

  • the most emotional moment i can think of in the whole history of golden girls. Second would go to when Blanche was at the graves of her parents and tells Dorothy that she is no one's little girl anymore

  • This makes me ball my eyes out because my uncle is very sick because he is overweight and about to die and she thinks that she made him the way he is, so she gets very upset with herself and cries and shes just a poor old lady like sophia.

  • sorry to hear about your uncle

  • Oh damn!I love this scene! It is soooo exellent!

I`m always startin`to cry after all these years!

    Marcel!

  • Sophia rarely cries in the entire 7 years. Whenever she does, its very moving, passionate, and brings me to tears. Another moment was when she started crying when her friend was about to committ suicide. As funny as this show was, it had its emotional moments, and they tackled every sensitive subject, like death and cross-dressing, masterfully.

  • What a Beautiful Preformance from Estelle Getty. She reminds of my Grandmother whom was Jewish. RIP Estelle Getty and B Aurthur.

  • I don't get how she hated Angela because in a previous episode when she was planning to move in with Phil she said Angela could do better than him.

  • oh no, here come the tears :(

  • he brought shame to the House of Hausenpfefferstuhledunker!!!!! LOL Rose's and Sophia's stories are the best!! LOL The dowery check bounced!!! This was the only moment Blanche wasn't being a slut!!!!!

  • One of the saddest episodes...how could you not cry? It takes a true talent to make you laugh and cry at the same time.

  • 1zt time I saw thiz one when Estelle cried "My Baby is Gone" I started to cry too. Very moving

  • So good. Outstanding acting, poignant material and hilarious comedy. Golden Girls at its absolute best.

My eyes got watery watching this and so did yours.

  • Brilliant show. The chemistry of this cast is really unparalleled. They touched on so many pertinent and relevant topics of both the 80s and today with class and true objectivity. I know pain is subjective, but I don't think it's going too far out on a limb to say that one of the worst pains has to be the pain of losing one's child. Parents aren't supposed to outlive their children. I think it's a particularly tragic kind of loss.

  • Sophia was a lot like my italian grandmother (Estelle and my grandmother passed two years apart) and when i see this episode, I think of my grandmother and what she was like before dementia. She was hard and a perfectionist. But she had a heart deep down. Just like Sophia

  • One of my favorite episodes...Sophia allowed herself to be vulnerable and it was brilliantly done

  • I know you didn't direct this question to me, but the name of the episode is "Ebbtide's Revenge".

  • There will NEVER BE a group of women like this! The Golden Girls is the bomb. Mama Sophia and Bea you are missed dearly and everyday of our lives here at home. We watch you everyday. RIP to Bea and Estelle

  • you are right, every day i watch them and they all crack me upp!!!

  • this is one of my favorite episodes. Her cry of "my baby is gone" is heart wrenching.

  • Sophia is always very hard on people, maybe for the right reason, but I always felt like she was the strong one the one who would get anybody through any of their problems, so it is very painful to see her like this.

  • Indeed, this had to be Estelle's finest work on the show because she was able to be the salty Sophia we love, but also allow herself to be vulnerable.

My great-grandmother died in 2001 at 88, and in her final years, she suffered from Alzheimer's & would often forget who even close relatives were. It was painful for us, but most of all, it had to be for her. When she passed, I could take comfort in knowing that she was finally free. I hope Estelle's loved ones are taking that same comfort.

  • Sophia is always so- hard- on people and it is really hard to see her like this. Pussycat and Ma, we do miss you!!

  • I cry every time when I see this scene.

R.I.P. Bea and Estelle. We love you and will miss you "Dorothy and Sophia".

  • Dorthy is gone and she will be missed

  • Of all the golden moments- Estelle can get you.... R.I.P. Estelle & Bea. God love you both.

  • Man, that was a heart-breaker to watch. Geez.

  • man my eyes got watery!!!

  • Bea, you'll be missed forever, but you also gave us a lifetime of memories...we love you...R.I.P

  • "Let's just say you didn't want to park your car under their oak tree." God, this show was hilarious!

  • I don't care how many times I see thi sepisode it always brings tears to my eyes. Great show, the fact that the network knew that you do not need to cast young, thin people to make a hit show was brillant on thier part. I still watch this show and I will always be a loyal viewer!

  • I have seen this clip a million times. And I still start to get misty. epecially since ive had some very close aquaintences pass/

  • The name was "Hossenfeperschtuledoker", I believe. It may be either German or Dutch.

  • So sad and hard to believe that there are only 2 Golden Girls left.

    RIP Bea and Estelle.

  • I am so sad that Bea and Estelle have now passed away. It kills me inside that they are dead. I am glad that they are now in heaven performing in front of God. R.I.P. Bea. I loved you.

  • Thank you for being a friend!

  • this epeisode always makes me cry.

    You both are dearly missed.

    RIP Sophia & Bea

  • Rip to both Bea and Estelle.

"Mother and daughter" are now together again.

    xO

  • this sad now that my best two on the golden girls is up there with god!!! :( check out my tributes i did for both of them...:) in july for estelle and today for bea!! :(

  • Intelligent. Incredibly funny. Fought for Women's rights. You were one in a million. Growing up watching you and hearing you speak publically made an impression. I thank you. Rip it up above girls! Have a blast.

  • i love dorothy and sophia :(

  • Dorothy is with Sophie in Heaven. RIP BEA & Estelle

  • I'm so heartbroken! It's unbelievable how attached I have become to all of the Golden Girls. I grew up watching this show. Aww... I'm going to miss you Dorothy, say hi to Sofia for me. RIP

  • This saddens me. She was a great actress. R.I.P Bea.

  • thats sad Bea Arthur aka maude died today ={ rip

  • It's really sad to think of there being only two golden girls left.

  • i loved the golden girls so much they were awesome

  • does anyone have the full episode of this

  • Sophia seemed like an open person I don't know why she'd have such a problem with a crossdresser.

  • She probably didn't have a problem with crossdressers, but it's different when it's someone you know and love, especially if it is your child.

  • @pgy002

I agree but I guess its different when its a family member.

  • lmao "shes shy.."

  • I know! To think of Sophia as shy is hysterical! R.I.P. both Bea and Estelle. You will be missed.

  • This is so much funny lol

  • They looked like a Trafic Light!

    Dorothy, Rose & Blanche.

    XD

  • OMG I just noticed that LOL

  • me too lol!

  • And, appropriately enough, Blanche is green and she's always ready to go.

  • i cried when i saw this and like the mesage that even if ur child is diff u should always luv them cause they will always luv u.

  • ::sob::

  • Did you know:

Bea Arthur and the rest of the ladies were always seen sitting around the Kitchen table eatting Cheese Cake, but in reality Bea Arthur hated Cheese Cake.

  • Even though Bea hated the Cheese Cake; Over 150 cheese cakes were eaten during the shows run. Also, they say now and again she eats cheese cake, but only for the memories.

  • tear jerker... big sally and sophia finally have a moment. just a sidebar: for Phill to have never been seen on this show he sure did get a lot of airplay.

  • i'll have you know it was the BIGGEST PUMPKIN OF THE SEASON!

  • This scene made me cry ... :(

  • Thank you for posting! Does anybody know what season this is??

  • This is from season 6. The episode is called Ebbtide's Revenge. :)

  • I loved her in "Mask" with cher. Also thats strange in the eposiode she ashamed of her son for crossdressing. She loved the gay community and did various advocate work for their causes. She was a great actress. RIP ESTELLE!

  • I didn't like the show when those other writers took it over. The remarks became more nasty and sarcastic, and the punchlines weren't funny. I really missed what the show used to be those last couple of years it was on.

  • i actually like the last seasons but the first seasons were okay but not hilarious like the last seasons.

  • I cant watch this without getting choked up. especially the end

  • Wow, I got really choked up!

  • everytime i see this it makes me cry. powerful clip

  • This is I think Estelle's greatest moment on Golden Girls. You can feel her emotion. Makes me cry everytime.

  • This is a great clip to Sophia's emotions and Rose's talent for helping other with problems, love them all so much. This show will never fade!

  • the horrible pain of losing a child, is something that Estelle showed in Sophia in this short but amazing clip from Golden Girls.

Estelle Getty is missed by all her fans.

  • such a hilarious series :)

  • Do as I do , stop watching TV select what you want to watch on here , no Adds :)

  • Its hard to remember today how progressive this was for its time. Today crossdressing on TV is - dare I say it - normal. (And rightly so!) But this was the mid 1980s, playing to a middle American audience. Its not just hilarious and touching. But really breaking new ground. God bless all of them.

  • Actually, you're wrong. All In The Family was one of the first shows to approach cross dressing as part of a serious storyline. Edith had a best friend who was a crossdresser. The end of that friendship was just as touching as this, but I do agree with you...GG still deserves credit for how they tackled it. :)

  • god i love sophia!

she makes a joke out of any serious situation!

  • R.I.P Sophia, you were a good actress, Blanche , Dorothy and Rose to, love the G.G all these funny episodes. Never saw a comedy again were the áll of the actors were hilarious at the same time.

  • r.i.p estelle, you were awesome

  • I agree, great proformance at the end. Not too many ppl can make it seem authentic!

  • I never considered myself a "cross-dresser", at least not like Phil. I am a drag queen. Years (and many pounds) ago, I performed weekends in a cabaret show. I had occasion to watch this episode with my mother one morning, over coffee, on Lifetime. Both of us crying uncontrollably. That morning will always be one of the closest bonding moments between us. God Rest You Estelle!! And thanks for all the years of love and comfort to so many.

  • hahaha, sophia a little witch with little sense that takes joy in making people misreable... You Go Sophia!!!

  • 'your dowry check bounced!'

OMG! i thought it was going to be a deeeeep secret

    Love you sophia

    sooooo funny!!

  • this is so trippy... i used to watch this when i was a young kid

  • I cry every time I watch this!!

  • great video.

Dorothy Rose and Blanche look like a stop light sitting on the couch.

  • LMAO they do..that's awesome.
