  • nothing, nothing beats the eighties for music... so much went on in those years. Japan was definitely one of the best bands around

  • Im trying to send this beautiful and amazing song to my mates but youtube has made it too complicated

  • @PalladiumTV Watch again

  • the outro is amazing classical and drums amazing strings piano

    bass and just amazing

  • very very very appropriate ...... very nice

  • so many memories,so much love for this song.xx

  • The imagery is very ethereal and perfectly matches the mood of this great song :-)

  • @insanityrulestheday thank you.

  • @ghostsonatasong really nice video, my compliments

  • This is where theTennant was heading - Sylvian took that embryo instrumental put some of his best ever lyrics to the bones of the song and this was the birth of the Japan that everyone totally fell in love with....I have not yet come across any band with the depth of talent or sheer balls that Japan had to morph their image or sound outside of Bowie, Madonna or the Beatles .

  • I can't believe how this song makes me feel. Such a head rush back to my teen years, the atmosphere it invokes, everything. You couldn't even say 'this is such a late 70's / 80's song'. When music crosses decades and doesn't age, or seem set in its time, you know it's a corker.

  • Just beautiful....

  • I bet the rest of the band rly misses Mick Karn. I liked his hair(the whole band). My mom has wanted to do thier hair for YEARS!! :)

  • I always loved this one. The strings on it remind me of 'the wild the wiling and the innocent' by UFO!

  • First time I heard this song was when I brought Exorcising Ghosts home on double vinyl. Damn near wore it out. So many incredible memories tied to this music, it's almost too much to bear sometimes. I have to look back sparingly for fear of complete overload.

Really enjoyed your video, thank you :)

    RIP Mick.

  • nice job :)

  • Great upload. I remember this, it was the very last song on Quiet Life, an achingly beautiful album (I was a big Japan fan, round 1981). This sounds so poignant now that Mick Karn passed away... thanks for making & posting this

  • RIP. Mick Karn....see you on the other side of life

  • Beautiful song, beautiful band, very atmospheric, sit back close yr eyes and remember them, RIP Mick!

  • this is the last thing i would ever remove from my i pod. rip Mick

  • RIP Mick k

  • This music is frighteningly magical. I wonder if they truly knew how good it was. I honestly put them up there with Joy Division, the Velvet Underground, and VERY FEW others.

  • I used this video for my blog, remembering Mick Karn.

if you Search "ntne Japan", ai supose you find it.

    Thanks for this video.

  • Hope Mick is ok on the other side . . .

  • I'm watching this after the news of Mick Karn's death and it makes a wonderful tribute. Makes me cry at the best of times.

  • @sophelizt Yes,it's true

  • @sophelizt

    I cried too.

Mick Karn always will be the best.

  • @sophelizt

Ive read now about the Mick Karn death... Sadnes

Ive hope in a reunion. Now It's impossible................

  • That is majestic drumming at the end.....steve jansen at he's best.

  • really dig some of the instrumental parts, but can't get into the vocals.

  • Thanks ghost. I haven't heard this song in a long time. I only remembered to look for it because I was listening to Kate Bush" "Head's We're Dancing" with the great Mick Karn on bass playing some of the most incredible bass riffs ever. This is addicting. Listened to it twenty times since I found it again.

  • @silmalila the hardest thing to know is not ourselves, but another's heart... Fear is showing it's hand now: and it's a Royal Straight Flush. The word "Christians" never appears in the New Testament.

    So you got the Joker?

  • nobody does adventure like Japan

  • im in love with all of JAPANs stuff!!!!! i use to have this album!!!!

  • @TheAngelGabriel7 grat band man nices one

  • Bought this album from a mate back in 79 and that was me hooked, bought the 2 previous albums "Adolescent Sex and Obscure Alternatives" but this album showed how they had developed into an amazing band that would have only got better as they progressed, undoubtly my favourite Japan album this track is so fresh now as it was 31 years ago, also love "In Vogue" for Micks flawless bass lines , yup an amazing original band. Get well soon mick.

  • Jesus - this is 1979 - unbeleivable I was 14 years old ... it took me another 2 years before I discovered Japan - what a waste. This is such an amazing song the lyrics are deep and poinient yet simple and true...god only knows what would have been created if they had stuck together after Tin Drum - superb band .

  • AWESOME...

  • Luv this song, and your video is perfect companion for it mate.......!!!

  • @shum65 No surprise to meet you here shum....you musta had a similar musical upbringing...cocteaus, japan, U2...I joke with the last one!

  • @desson40 Hi there lol, good to meet ya here, love Japan, its funny

I do like U2 as well, I once did a cover of "With Or Without You" :)

  • bostin video for a great song. well done!

  • @fuppinbaxter thanks.

  • WONDERFUL!

  • superb

  • @silmalila

Hi Juliet. I remember you from a year or so ago from a comment you responded to on the Clash song Sandinista. And then I made the connection that you were the same person who commented on all the David Sylvian videos and got into arguments with people about religion. Anyway, for some reason I thought of your comments last night. I see you haven't been on YouTube since you left this comment. If you come back on let me know all is well. Thanks.

  • @ghostsonatasong without roxy music there wouldn't have been a japan

  • god u can see the roxy influence on this song

  • god u can see the roxy influence on this song

  • AWESOME

  • This is art, fantastic work, Japan is one of my favorite bands and this is my favorite song of theirs - thanks for posting.

  • 'sheltering only the other side of life'

i've no idea what that means, however this is a fucking great tune X

  • Great band, truly one of the greatest and deepest bands from the 80s.

Love everything, from adolescent sex to Aja.

    Beautiful!!

  • @beschermengel Aja? isn't that steely dan?

  • Haha! It is..

Got confused with 1 of my other loves..

    I meant Tin Drum!

    Freudian slip.

  • Gratified fellow Citizen of Japaniverse ... I'm beginning to think that the band breaking up after Tin Drum's 8 songs was not "untimely" nor "premature" but given the evolution of technology, specifically the Web and Samadhisound's sound reason of allowing anyone to remake these lush songs into music videos - the only price of admission: your inspiration. I'm happy to say I'm one of ghost son at a song's newest fans.

  • thanks for this comment.

  • 30 years...... my God....

I would be an old fart by now if I wasn't this trendy.....

Japan eh...... If I only had hair left I would do it..

Life is cruel.... I was a punk, and tha Mohawk hair was the first to leave my head....

    I'm gutted.

  • best comment.

i am sorry about the hair.

  • Oh, God!!! Thank you so much!!! I don´t know explain how I feel listening to this song but... the melody is incredible powerful with these piano and synth sounds!!! Best wishes from Rio de Janeiro/ Brazil! =D

  • glad to share with you.

  • Amazing tune.

  • "Quiet Life" was a brave album considering the musical landscape of the time, and remains my favourite Japan collection. What always draws me to this song is its beautiful orchestral arrangement. It is timeless.

Thanks for posting, and the dancers fit very well into the concept of the song.

  • thanks for watching.

  • I lost my LP of this, so thank-you for posting, it's beautiful, isn't it?

  • you are more than welcome. thank you for the comment.

  • such a timeless and wonderful song still , after all these years - cheers for posting

  • thanks to you for watching.

  • Lovely, Ghost.

No matter what, Sylvian remains the most important artist of my life. His music has basically been the soundtrack of it.

    But you know that.

  • great album.....was crushed when they didn't play 'despair' live, but Micks footwork more than made up for it :]

  • you saw syl and co.? that is something...

  • Beautiful.

  • una obra maestra!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you for returning, my friend.
