Well, interesting question there, but I actually had a main team of SEVEN, as I also ended up with when I got White. My HG team is Ariados, Quagsire, Ampharos, Gengar, Meganium, Togekiss, and Crobat. I never wanted to raise the Quagsire, but needed a water type for surf and the like, so I kinda had to raise it. Same thing kinda happened in White. I actually DID want to raise a Swoobat, but couldn't get rid of my Stoutland, and I needed a flyer, so I raised it later on in the game.

@Colbylam Only one. My Onix was completely underleveled for the Elite Four so I swapped him for Ho-oh. I don't see how that's a bad thing, it's what I've always done in Pokemon games, leave an extra space for the game's main legendary against the Pokemon League.
