@TheBlytonian Well, when I come across some music that I don't like (which is a rare occasion as I have a broad taste in music) I just turn the volume down.. :) That solves the problem! If you had done that instead of given a whingeing comment about something that really wasn't at all relevant to the build review, then you would have found out if it was interesting or not.. Never mind, I'll live long and happily either way, and so (no doubt) will you.. :) Thanks for replying.. :)
@TheBlytonian This is not a MUSIC channel, it is a MODELLING channel, and I can't help the copyright laws! Still, at the end of the day it is your loss, not mine.. take care now.. bye bye.. :)
@0909bram36 You and me both.. Not buying anything new at the moment, but I have a few kits in my stash so fortunately I'm lucky enough to still be able to build..
@0909bram36 Well, it has taken me a good few years to build up my stash.. Trouble is, new kits are coming out all the time, and I'm missing out on them now.. :(
@0909bram36 Yes.. so much now that I have to leave some of them on the shelf in the shop, for that reason alone.. I tend to build mainly kits from the 'pocket money' range, but even so they have almost doubled in price in the last few years.. Kits like the Revell 1/72 P-47 D, which I paid £3.50 for when I started the hobby again, is now costing me nearly £6.. :( Unfortunaltely my wages has NOT doubled in that time... sigh..
It looks so elegant with that double pattern! I´m not sure, however, if such a scheme corresponds to a squadron which painted all their B-17s that way or if this plane in particular lost one of its sections or halves and replaced it with one from another B-17 painted another way, as I read in some books... If that was the case, which was the original part of the aircraft; the front one or the back one!? 8·
@AlanMartinNala I think the front was the original, as the name follows the nose art.. :) At least they ended up with one working bomber, rather than 2 scrapped ones.. :)
I now have the new revell b 17, well the latest on anyway :) found out that the one you built Is on the boxart! :) just had a peek in the box it's HIGHLY detailed! Way better than the old revell one! Yours is brilliant! Added to favorites :)
@wammyburger Yes, but the Revell version is different to mine, and probably more correct.. even if Revell is known to have got things wrong, occasionally.. :) I could only do mine like this as it was the option shown on the after market decal sheet.. :) I wanted the new Revell B-17 but it had sold out everywhere at the time, so I got the Academy kit instead... :)
lovely looking model, that was the thing in WW2, allied bombers coming home damaged with no spares... right, theres 2 damaged unflyable planes, turn them into 1 flyable place and keep the spares incase of more damaged planes :D
Brilliant model! Your b 17 is a beauty! :) I just came back from France just went for a couple of days. Went to visit my great uncle's grave he died in ww1 and my other uncle who died in 1944 in France he took part in the Normandy landings. Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos you posted while I was gone! :) :)
@badgrendels Thanks.. I have received great praise on model forums such as IPMS Stockholm and Britmodeller, for my brush skills when it comes to silver and natural metal finishes.. :) They never believe me when I say it is basic Humbrol 11 enamel paint.. :) :) 2 or 3 thin layers with a flat brush normally does the trick.. it's no fancy work.. :) :)
@2002And Yes, I will probably need it.. Trouble is, it is so much more tempting to build smaller, easier kits.. just to get some done.. than to struggle with the Lanc, which technically is fairly close to being finished.. :)
@BasicModelling Yes, I know what you mean.. spending ages on one kit is not very satisfying when you don't finish it after 3 weeks hard work. It feels much better to get a smaller easier kit done and completed ready to get on with the next one.
just 1 question though, the black lines around the main wing edges and tailplane, how did u do them? i cant get my line to curve round the enges, yet still be a straight line? how do u mask it?
@singningwongho The straight lines around the wings were masked with Tamiya 10mm masking tape.. The taiplane was painted freehand.. very carefully.. :) Glad you liked it.. :)
@cwazmann1 Thanks.. I do my best.. :) Have a car lined up for the near future as well, it's one of the new tooled Airfix kits, it's a Jaguar and looks a beauty.. at least in the box! I'll probably botch it, though.. :)
@TheMinisterofDefence They were all camouflaged to start with, but as the Allied air iorces gained air superiority and the Luftwaffe got hammered to the ground, the need for camo became less and less, and so most planes ended up in natural metal, which increased performance all round, as it made the planes quite a lot lighter.. :)
@BasicModelling I hadn't thought about that making them lighter. Interesting. Almost arrogant in a way. We have such air superiority that we don't even have to pretend to hide ourselves anymore....hmmm. A sad time to be living in a German city, I fear.
@TheMinisterofDefence Well, the paint in itself weighed a lot.. especially on a big plane such as the Fortress! And yes, the Germans got bombed both day and night.. but they harvested what they had sown in the first place, I guess.. and the horrible nature of war is such that for every 'guilty' person killed, there's an awful lot of innocent people killed too.. or at least it was in those days, before the introduction of the slightly more accuarate methods of today....
@BasicModelling COOL!!!! i've wanted that kit, but instead i got a crappy hawasega 1:72 f-4e, the pieces just don't fit together i used up half my filler just for the nose and wings, not to mention the tail :/
@MisplacedTexan4 Well, I had no option but to take the photos outside, as the model is too large for where I normally take my photos.. :) Glad you thought it looks good.. :)
nice like the fineshed look i have a premade flying fortress it was my grandad'she did not serve in ww2 but for some reason he bought it i dunno why anyway the strange thing is is that its from the same squadrom (the back end)
nice like the fineshed look i have a premade flying fortress it was my grandad'she did not serve in ww2 but for some reason he bought it i dunno why anyway the strange thing is is that its from the same squadrom
so this B-17 had this look? 1/2 olive drab and 1/2 aluminum? not that I don;t believe it is correct but just that i';d not seen one like it...but it is your usual good work....
@granskare The real plane was a B-17 bomber that crashed, and they salvaged it by using the rear end of another crashed B-17.. so technically it's 2 planes joined together to make 1.. :) That's why it has two different paintschemes.. :)
@granskare It was very common during the war to take parts from one plane to complete another. This happened later on in the war as allies gained air supremacy and older damaged B-17s were cannibalized for parts..
@BasicModelling yeah i do like swedish examples, rather than us or uk. there are some air forces which take my fancy like sweden, israel, australia (of course), south africa, ww2 italian (those have COOL camo, I couldn't pull it off right now but one day right...) and yeah, they just take my fancy with smaller countries rather than superpowers.
