there are three reasons the price of oil is up: a weak dollar (real price of all goods remaining same), no developement of proven alternative energys (nuclear, natural gas), and a strangle hold on drilling and refining of national reserves.

Drilling more and refining more will not solve our problems! The price of oil is based on speculation. Every time Bush makes a threat or creates problems in the middle east the speculators freak out and push the price up! That's why oil companies have recorded record profits! We need stabilization not more drilling. We need to stop fooling ourselves, oil is a finite resource and the time has come to seek out alternatives. That is the REAL SOLUTION!!!

So on the one hand you say there is no more oil and on the other you say "don't drill". Increase the supply and the price goes down. Oil may be a finite resource but there is still a great deal of it. Nobody able to raise money is going to risk great amounts of it developing alternatives when there is still lots of cheap oil sitting under the ground that on a whim can be produced and drive more expensive and less fungible alternatives out of the market. Would you?
