I love Michael W. Smith a ton, he had enormous talent.. but this song can only be song by Simon and Garfunkel. Smith just does not have that soft, soothing, comforting voice that is needed for this song... He took the strong approach on this song... and I'm sorry, it just didn't work. You can't beat Simon and Garfunkel, and it's almost insulting to even try and add your on twist to something that was all ready a master piece.

I sang this song directly to my wife as it was playing while we were dancing face to face with each other at our wedding reception in June of 2003. We were just divorced on Wed Feb 2nd. This song will remind me of how my heart was broken by her betrayal and infidelity. It wasn't supposed to be like this. Love has become ancillary and meaningless in our disposable Western society.

Mr. Michael W. Smith took some liberties with the lyrics to this classic song by poet/songwriter Paul Simon. The correct lyrics are "when tears are in your eyes I will dry them ALL", not "dry them off". Also, the correct lyrics are "I'm on your side, IF you need a friend", not "WHEN you need a friend". To some that might seem as nitpicking and insignificant, but I am sure Mr. Simon would take exception to someone changing his lyrics. Flame away ... I have my asbestos suit on.

Someone at church requested this song and I was a little anxious over playing it (on my flute) since it is such a familiar secular song. This song was a fav. in the Viet-Nam era, I prayed for my husband very day and night, although there were demonstrations going all around, I knew one thing: my man was there fighting a Godless war, he had no choice, I had no choice, but I thank God , my man returned from that useless, senceless " CONFLICT" not even deemed ....a war....war is so senceless, so destructive, murdering live's, destroying familie's, on both side's , and for WHAT?

This song was #1 on the charts for 7 straight weeks in 1970. It's truly a universal message, as it speaks to the listener's heart, no matter what allegory it may be tied to. Paul and Art at their best. How ironic that it was the "straw that broke the camel's back" for Simon and Garfunkel as a group. Great performance, Michael. Just enough of "yourself" in it to get my attention.

The main ways to come into BC is over bridges and so when hurricane ike hit (7ft water in my house) It was horrible; but we're rebuilt! and stronger than ever!

Someone at church requested this song and I was a little anxious over playing it (on my flute) since it is such a familiar secular song. But listening to this by MWSmith convinced me that the values it conveys to me (that we all need to be the bridge for those that are hurting in this world) and hopefully the further value many of us know of (that Jesus is the ultimate Bridge for all of us) will shine through! Thanks for posting this song!

It doesn't really matter who wrote this or sang it....just imagine who is REALLY singing this to you....in my case, JESUS and it makes ALL the difference in the world! This touched my heart!!

It matters to the world who wrote what and thus hurts this artist as it unfairly represents him and thus hurts the very ministry he is trying to share with the world. I am sure Paul Simon would be glad to know his work touches people. Michael has a great voice too bad a mistake that won't be fixed takes the focus off what he accomplished
