seriously, the people who think it is completely closed and the dog can not get out?? maybe you should watch it again and pay attention this time. Dog can get in and out whenever it wants to! It is a great idea to get a dog tons of exercise, which they like, and is not meant to take the place of a human companion. Unless the dog is taken several miles each day super fast walk with its human, dog is not getting the exercise that they should be getting, for a normal healthy dog.
Put a generator on that thing and make that dog earn it's food!
Honestly,it would be easy to install a permanent magnet generator to one of those,it would provide power and add a bit of drag to the wheel, making the walk a little more vigorous.
There are Puppy Mills and perhaps this would be a great minor solution to some of the dogs/puppies living conditions. Better than running in circles in a cage. This way they can use up all of their energy to get rid of some of their suffering. Not saying this is the solution but lets be honest, its a minor improvement to some situations.
dogs are meant to roam freely, not sit at home and play whenever homeowners want. This is better for them than having them sit around and do nothing and bad for their health
this should not be a substitute for walking a dog daily and ineraction with their owners. this is a cruel way to make a dog get its exercise. this is what people who run puppy mills have!! i think it could be there as a choice for the dog to get into but when a dog is in a rodent cage with a giant exercise wheel to excersise, thats not okay..
@HambekBrooke - I have a pomeranian and a good sized back yard. That dog runs around and around in that yard all day long, but still wants me to run with her, under trees and around objects. She is never satisfied. She begs me to go outside with her numerous times daily. If I had a treadmill and she had one of these things, we could run together until she's exhausted. It's clear these dogs jump on this thing by choice and seem to love it. It's no worse than having a trampoline for your kids.
This dog looks like he's in a mill. I hope I'm wrong. I know puppy mills use these.

@blackdognumbertwo - well, actually, some of the pictures show that the dogs are in a closed compartment. Others show an open compartment.
