This is great. What a moron. I used to watch attorneys go into court all the time, unprepared and then make excuses or blame everyone else. The judges get tired of it, and every time a case has to be continued because the attorney is unprepared it costs taxpayers money. Stop being lazy and just do your job.
I'm just a little curious...how in the world can he say he is ready for trial if he, when "speaking" and prepping his client for his day in court, was not even aware that his client does not speak English! Hello????? Whom was he preparing for trial?
I disagree with you, PDs are the best attorneys. I used to see private attorneys try cases and the job some did was laughable. A lot of PDs really care for their clients. The reason why we get bad raps is because unlike private attorneys who pick their cases, we have to defend everyone who cannot afford an attorney. Most of our clients are career criminals. Ask yourself why did Scott Peterson get convicted and sentenced to death, he didn't have a PD, would a PD have done better, absolutely.
She's worried about the man not getting a speedy trial so she decides to waste the defender's time by sending him to jail rather than letting him fix the mess...? That makes sense.
Public defenders are the most incompetent lawyers in the world. This guy got what he deserved. I'm just shocked that the judge had any common sense enough to punish this asshole..
Wow. What a gross overstatement. PD's have huge caseloads with impossible time constraints. Most do the very best they can with the resources and time available to them. Without PD's, many would be deprived of Due Process. PD's are civil servants, and deserve respect.
With regard to this judge, her punishment was grossly disproporionate to the mistake made by the PD.

He was extremely dumb, but prison time was not needed.. all she had to do was reconvene the court till a translator could be reached.

The judge should be fired. Sorry.
I understand you need to get an interpreter, but putting someone is jail because they forgot to request one, is just making the process more lengthy.
Maybe the guy forgot. The judge is a loser!

No. I grossly understated my feelings about public defenders. What did Shakespeare say about lawyers? Can someone help me out here?
