  • thanks - clarity = win

  • a question for you .you might be able to help: if i want to play on 6 channel or 12 ,introducing loops when i want and be able to controll it,how would you set up ableton?

i ve got xone 62 (6 channel mixer) and motu 828 mk 2 audiocard with lot of at least 12 outputs on it, peace what you think?

  • yes good man..very clear :)))

  • YA DOHNUT!!

  • Placebo!

  • This is a fantastic tutorial, like your relaxed, easy attitude.

  • You warp better than I do on Super Mario Bro's 3

  • that was really great!

  • thanks!

  • the best video on beat warping in ableton I have seen great job!! thx!

  • Placebo for the win.

  • Hey, if I warp a song in one project. and then open a brand new project and bring in the same song from its file folder-- Will Live have it warped?

  • good work man ~d(-_-)b~

  • Doesn't your mixer hook up directly through audio Meaning you wouldn't have to route through the extra box to get the sound out to it? Or is it just midi linked with the audio portion separated?

I love the idea of integrating my mix directly in live rather than rewiring in traktor which can't sync, so thanks for the tutorial.

  • Just the tutorial I needed. Thanx,

  • Good video!

  • the ableton from this video is very old... ableton 8 is not like this... the markers dont move like that

  • @xpertvisions I can't stand Ableton 8

  • @Darpinion that means you havent used it enough. the more yu use it, the more you love it

  • cool tips bro..but u realy need to get a screen capture program....

  • I have everything down except the warp!!! When you re-do the markers, how do you know where to put them???? I want to match tracks and its only showing me ONE track... how do you do both??? or match samples/acapella?????

  • Warping tracks in Ableton is pain in the ass. The program is placing transients on like middle of a kickdrum and setting the start of a song to samekinda nonsense places its just so fcking frustrating.

  • @jeeaaman you can set how Ableton creates the warp markers - change it about until you've got the best to suit.

I know it's not much better way to solve the problem, but it certainly can save some time, changing how it detects the placements.

  • @scotgig

Hmm , apart from changing the warp mode : repitch , complex pro etc. Are there more options? Like on Cubase or Recycle there is a slider where you can adjust the amount of transients , but never found it on Ableton.

Im doing better thesedays with repitch and setting as little of those warp markers as possible , but still having hard time with harder songs :)

  • Can you export the track once it's warped to use in other software like Seraqto or Traktor?

  • what if i wanns use four channels and midi with the mixer what do i do dude???

  • @pabloarrangoiz69 you can always try a sound card more like Audio 8 DJ Audio Interface by Native Instruments

  • nice

  • omfg why dont the warp markers work for me when i drag them it changes the size of the song and tempo HELLPP

  • @mumbomum your prob using live 8, which has a different warping system.

  • @mumbomum You arent suppose to 'drag' the warp markers is why. Right Click and 1:1 from there, and warp track from there in same menu.

  • Yes when you click on the markers it will play from the markers on the first beat and keep everything sounding like it was never chopped up.

  • hey man, nice vid! i have a couple of questions...i'm new to using ableton and trying to learn warping. around 5:03 where you say "you can remix on the fly...", are you clicking on the markers that are set from when you warped the track? if so, are they triggered on the downbeat just like playing a regular clip in Live? thanks for any help!

  • @ChompTrax They should play on the downbeat correctly. Be sure that you have, "1 bar" selected along the top of the clip view screen so that ableton will know not to bring the clip in before the end of the bar

  • @clear00water thanks for the tip!

  • sweet

  • you doing your laundry son?

  • very good video best one i seen yet!

  • best tutorial for this that ive seen. many thanks.!!

  • amazing.. it's cheating in an oldschool way of thinking, but damn that's a mixers dream!

  • thanks m8 you helped me a lot :D

  • another question is it harder to warp acapellas ive tried and its a freakin train wreck

  • hey good video whats the concept behind warping in live like when u move the markers to the left or right what does tht do?? and how do u knw if you put the markers in the right place thx

  • thanks man. love your work.

  • Thank you!

  • Very helpful ...thanks

  • Very helpful thanks!

  • is there a way to "preview" tracks?? so instead of sending line2 to you speakers can you send it to headphone mix??

  • Yes

    Audio setting and cue output

& u can adjust a cue volume too

and u can cue your effect return or any track by your setting...

Only problem for me is how can I load a song into a dedicated slot wit out use mouse ..... I got APC 40 ,ZeroSL,M-Audio TFx2units but Ican't do that M4L is too hard tot try 4 me .... May be someone share???

  • Can someone please explane what is warping

  • @Safalta05

    You never seen Startrek?

  • kevin do your thing, be creative

  • once you warp a track, do you have to keep warping every time you start a new session

  • Comment removed

  • good vid mate, clear as day.

  • Is it possible to take songs from I tunes and drop them into Ableton or Reason? if so can anyone tell me how

  • is there a midi interface/sound card interface for your mixer that you know of? Don't really want to half to carry around both.

  • use cd player or turntables for djing,

for me make no sense using live for djsets,i use it for producing and live set.

  • you can do so much more with ableton and a apc 40. your sets will sound so much better and your not as limited. i've been djing for 10 yrs. it was hard for me to switch to cdj's. going to ableton was easy once i found the apc 40.

  • ok...put a cd and then just push play...

  • u look like sebastien leger :D

  • great video... I use torq and serato, I'd like to use ableton but I find it's not the type of software you can just figure out on the fly. It seems very complicated compared to FL Studio or Reason.

  • Fanx man that's a rlly useful video! :)

    Sam =

  • Brilliant video mate, its hard finding videos on here that are made for ppl like me that dont even know the basics and this is spot on, well u av me subscribed now.

  • awesome video man, helped me so much more then all the other videos out

  • Thanks a lot man. +++

  • pretty good tutorial, thanks

  • Nice, what do u think of launchPad? or do u recommend something else ?

  • kool , i wasnt sure if it could do that thanks

  • Crap video quality but doesnt matter as you mate make crystal clear how it works in 2 minutes. Very good job worth 5 star. :)

  • This is the best video for beginning dj mix with ableton, sound card with more than 1 stereo output and mixer. tks

  • nice one clownly

  • Anyone know how to change the tempo for seperate tracks in Live 6?

  • Hey Clowwny, one of the best demo's on Ableton dude.

I've trawled thro YT and most leave one confused.

You did a great job mate.

    Nice one.

  • warping in 'complex' sounds so much better

  • Great job Man! This is really helpful! Thanks!

  • thanks for this video! really helped :)

  • Omg can someone please point me in a video that shows how to WARP in ableton 8 not 7 cause every videos shows you how warp in 7 and the 8 vid are just whats new omg..... This would really help if ableton didnt have to change the warping

  • be glad they changed it though, they really upped the warping engine :)

  • Great. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for the tutorial!

  • shoot, this works great. whatever works for you, you use it. lol

  • Lol you obviously never used it before ...

  • more freedom for creation when you're not worrying about losing beats...which if you are creative and expressionistic is truely a great thing. if you use it to cheat because you don't have any rhythm, ,that's something else :)

  • great tutorial. thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you for the tutorial. Really helped out a beginner DJ. :D

  • Thankyou, Thankyou, thankyou!!!!!

  • Once again....a needle in a haystack tutorial with a non-illiterate smart guy who has good knowledge but better yet good communication skills...all of which many tutorials lack...including fucking expertvillage...i hate those guys

  • great tutorial

  • Really good, well explained tutorial mate. Its been really pissing me off trying to get my tracks warped. Working perfect now. Thanks

  • What acapella is that? sounds nice.. mind sending to me? we can do a trade if you like? I have many trance acapellas as well. thanks!

  • you are my hero!!! Shit dude I have been fumbling with trying to set my mixer through ableton right, forever. THX!!

  • Excellent tutorial, very useful, looking forward to more

  • Awesome job!

  • Very informative. You have a no BS aproach that is easy to understand. I hope you make more tutorials.

  • NIce vid!

    I have a question though..

How can i enhance the sound quality of my mix cd after all the warping has been done in complex mode?

  • great tutorial, you explain everything so well even a fucking retard could understand this

  • Oh no i can't!

  • very helpful man!!! one question only. if i warp a track at 135bpm and the other at 138bpm, it doesnt matter i can mix them anyway in th emaster tempo i choose or should i for instance warp both of them at 135bpm( all of my songs warped in the same tempo)?

  • good question i wanna know too please some tell us!???

  • Thanks for your help. I've just quit vinyl this week after 20 years.

  • Thanks so much ! Good tutorial, nice & simple ! You've enlightened my day ! :)

  • nice1. ya made that real easy for me and i'm a novice. keep on keepin' on.:)

  • Thank you for a very helpful tutorial.

  • Is using that many warp markers really that necessary? I can understand on older tracks but what about brand new stuff that you would get on beat port today?

  • Even with many digital tracks these days, you still usually want to drop a marker at least once every 16 bars. There are many variations in recordings so in order to be sure that your tracks are warped 100% on point, it's important to tighten your warp as much as possible. With some loop-based techno (such as stuff by Radio Slave) you can drop one one 1.1.1 and then one on the final beat and you may be ok.

  • much love, very simple after watching this

  • thanks man, we really appreciate this!!!

  • worked for me haha awesome man thanks

  • hey thats cool, im new to this- so if u warp mark a track at 125bpm then say the next one at 133 or whatever, is it gonna mix them in time? what do you do with the overall tempo or does it matter?

  • Great warping tutorial! Thanks so much!

  • why is he changing it at 17 and 5, and what would happen if you didnt bother to do this? Anyone who could answer that would be greatly appreciated!

  • he's double checking the automatic warp function.. you can see that his initial attempt to 'lock in' the track left him with warp markers that were offset from the actual beat of the song.

when this happens you have to manually adjust the warp markers... fine tuning their accuracy. that he first corrected the markers at 17, then again and again and again until the end of the track is a little redundant.. but whatever works.

  • i only like using 2 warp markers for ea track for mixing

  • can you show us how to mix 2 tracks please.

  • well done man, simplified for us dummies unlike the other tutorials that are designed for pro's!

  • good stuff, could not figure out out to sync "whole tracks" thanks!

  • thank you

  • Very helpful...I am new to Ableton this week and wondering how I could use headphones to make sure I like the next mix or track coming in? Maybe headphones aren't even necessary if warped correctly??? thanks!!!

  • cheers man, really helpful!

  • wickd

  • thanks man, easy as a cake!

  • great video kevin :) i like it ...

you will help a lot with this warp section ;)

  • thx man helped alot....btw man i love that song kicks ass! placebo all the way!

  • this how to is no valid at all.

try to use this method with

Italoboyz - Viktor Casanova and see...

  • Hmmm. Soso~

The test fails completely though, sorry. Ofcourse it'll loop seamlessly if you only play the first bar over and over. you can be ~0.5bpm out and still loop the start pretty easily but the ending will be screwed up. You also can just add a warp marker to the start and use the metronome to pull the beats into the track on more complex / less obvious tracks.

  • well, time to dig out my old battle mixer :)

  • So...this is pretty much cheating.

  • you should use screen capture.... like 'I show U' or something, then we wouldn't all get sea sickness when you move the camera around....

you can record all the audio you hear via soundflower.... and use a mic input to your sound card to capture your voice too....

Would make for a more professional video...

    nice work.

    K

  • yeah, this camera stuff was old school, it might have been better had he just drawn the stuff on paper and filmed that....yep dude with respect your final comments on the tutorial camtasia, or anything to get your skills into more presentable form. luckily i was 'inside' where yor at...but goddam if someone was nu out there it mighta been hard...cool enough...

  • schwula !

  • many thanks 4 the guide!

  • could u do a tutorial on how to do mash-ups? for example if i want to take a progressive trance song and insert some lyrics of an old song into it, how would it be done? thx, great video!!

  • and what is a warp? :P

  • great video this 1st seen it about a year or 2 ago, always pass the link over to any of my friends interesting in learning how to warp tracks. its the best tut on the net for it. well done

  • I have a question about warping. An ableton in general.

Do i have to warp each song individually? Is there anyway i can just select the song and beat match on the fly? It seems very time consuming to be warping ever song.

  • thanks mate your ace at tutorials all info gone in :D cheers from the uk :D

  • You are a life saver!! Thanks!!

  • great video, very helpful!

  • great vid. but how can i do to warp the track and then pass it to mp3 again?

  • render and pass to mp3?

  • how many warp markers do you usually set and what numbers do you set them on?

  • the more you add, conceivably, the more exact it will be on. do quite a few at the beginning to figure out what the tempo basically is, then you plain don't need as many for the rest of the track

  • very helpful thanks man

  • Kool!

  • Thanks for the info. looking forward to more

  • Awesome video!

  • thanks for the tute, these are a real help to us guys who are just starting up

i wish my brain had "midi learn"

    darren

  • Nice vid. I have my Xone 92 setup the same way. If you want to go crazy with effects and stuff you can buy a UC-33 to add to your setup. 24 rotary knobs, 9 faders and 16 buttons for triggering clips loops etc is uber :) It is pretty cheap to.

  • great video. really useful. as said, we really appreciate this stuff. Great work!

  • Hi. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all of the musicians posting tutorials on youtube! Thanks a lot!

  • all the warp tutorials I see are warping beats. How do I warp acapella vocals to go along with the warped beat? The vocals never seem to line up and I have 80 or so cue points. Is there an easier way? Thanks!

  • transpose or pitch m8

  • Ya I'm feelin this right here. I jus discovered the power of ableton about a yr ago. And that quicker way to beat warp was def helpful. I was sittin at the cpu going one beat marker at a time for whole songs!!! lol So ya, once I actually sit down and study the program, really learn it. I might rule the world r some shh

  • heyy great!! Thanks soo much! You´ve no idea how handy that came in!

  • thanks man, i got the same mixer. the nuo4 is sweet. wat do u do with the channels 2 & 3 (the midi channels?) and how do u mix more then 2 channels from ableton? (i also have a m-audio soundcard that has 2 stereo outputs like yours)

  • Thanks!

  • it's the only helpful video for external mixer thanks a lot!!!

  • great tutorial!!!

can you actually take samples out of original tracks? i mean take vocals out or or take the say bass or guitar out???? or have you a tutorial on remixing?

you got placebo's vocals in this, how do you get just the vocals?

  • Cheers man !!! very helpful...

  • Thanks man

  • Cheers great video, know exactly what i'm doin now.

  • Thank you from another newb strugglin up the learning curve! Sorry for the dumb follow up question, but once I've beat-mapped two songs w/ different tempos, how do I sync them up nicely?

  • Just play them. Once warped they will be set to the master tempo at the top left of the ableton window.

  • what do YOU do when you have the crossfader at the middle - both tracks are audible to the audience - and yet the tracks even "pre"-warped they go off sync ... what do you use as a pitch-bend ? or you just pull the crossfader back and rewarp in cue ?

  • Firstly, thank you for your time and knowledge. You share it well. So many tutorials kinda wash over. You have something. Keep on keepin on.

  • I found out bellow the faders there's a hidden track delay that should fine-tune the beat grids (kinda ableton pitch bend funcionality). How would you perform a precise time beat jump?

ilovemusic: I don't know how to tap an individual channel for the BPM yet though I haven't seen a pitch slider on a fader funcionality.. I wonder how (that's my missing link actually). regards..

  • if i warp a mp3 and i have my bpm set at say 125.00 (when i warp the track), if i need to change the bpm because it aint fast enough for what im gonna play live, do i need to re warp the tracks that i warped at 125.00 bpm again to say 135.00

  • no, once a track is warped you can play at any BPM. You can even change BPM during track play.

  • you are correct, however it makes it a bit easier to warp the song when you have the master tempo set to the original songs tempo. this is not required, and I have mentioned this in an earlier post.

  • Hi Kevin.

How do you pitch bend (temporary speed up or down) a track?

How about 32 step loop / beat jump? I am setting up a midi controler for a Behringer BCD3000 I'll be happy to post the code.

    Kind Regards,

    Geekmagestik

  • Oh yeah, one more question.....how are you connecting your pc to the soundcard? Does the usb connection send the data to the soundcard or do I need to run something from the headphone output?

    Again, you rock :-)

  • His m-audio audiophile uses firewire to connect to pc.

  • Absolutely phenominal help bro. I've got the M-audio Fast Track Pro & have had trouble getting things going with live mixing. Now my only question is, what is an Asio driver & how do I set up the audio/midi preferences in Ableton?

I agree, your approach was really easy to understand & you've got a good disposition. Nice video man! I'm subscribing for sure :-)

  • what up nice one dude you did a h=good job and u were kewl too thanxx

    draxxx

  • New user here. Thank you so much for your time. Much appreciated.

  • Excelent warping tips. Thanks from an Ableton beginner.
