OMG, i've been trying to post this myself, but have not been successful. This is probably my favorite series of recordings for the baroque oboe. Rifkin's recpnstruction of this is debated, but it is beautiful. The third movement is unbelievable. Stephen Hammer is brilliant so say the least here.
@sonicgb "Rifkin's reconstruction of this is debated..."
I don't suppose you could tell me exactly *where* it's debated? The authenticity (or possible lack thereof) of supposedly historically informed baroque performances is fast becoming a subject of serious interest for me.
If you could drop a couple names or publication titles that would save me time in a Google search it would be appreciated.
@polymath7 I can't post a link as comment. Google "Rifkin Butler oboe" and there is a Google books link that sort of explains the debate. Butler is a bach scholar, and musicologist who happens to be my father. He refutes Rifkin's reconstruction, as do others. Historically correct or not, I still love this album by Rifkin, because the oboe work is beautiful.
by listening to this made me want to do my homework lol over winter break im relaxing and ready tooo think and in homework mood :3 (^.^)
