There are definitely some bad ones out there but I have the knack for tending to like regular "bad" films as it is so as long as I can get into the plot (especially romantic comedies, or not to overly mushy romantic you almost guaranteed to have me) I am probably yours for the taking when it comes to a film. LOL
hahaha! this was a very accurate description of the kind of gay films that are most commonly produced. and god ya, gay movies are HORRIBLY made! but i can't help watching. It's a guilty pleasure. The 4th kind of movie is so rare though :(
I just wanted to say (but I ran out of space) that the characters in Bless the Beasts remind me so much of myself at 14. Not so much from a sexual point of view but from a mind set. I wish someone would redo the film, update it some, because I think it could still have an audience today.
Maybe whats wrong with gay films is that its hard to relate to these "hot guys having all this sex" because it's just not real. Any depth the characters have ends in their dicks.
You did a good job with this. A lot of times I find myself watching gay films once...putting them away and never really seeing them again. If I was ever asked what my favorite queer film was I would have to name a film that's never considered queer although I think it is. Bless the Beasts and the Children (1972). Its dated stuff, but I still love it. Its a coming of age film and to my mind contains the first teenage gay character in a film.
My favorite DVD are: Watercolors, Dream Boy, Boys Life 6, Summer Storm, A Home at the End of the World, Latter Days, Shelter, Get Real, Beautiful Thing, and And Then Came Summer. All these movies are top knotch and awesome. These are well made, Connor....trust me, so please watch and let me know what you think....oh, add An Angel Named Billy too. :)
This is a GREAT analysis but you forgot the "coming of age gay film." Like everyone in the world is always 18 and having their first sex. Of course they start out with 2 guys having horseplay while in the rain or in the pool or in the sprinkler, or somehow with no shirts and wet and then they have a sudden violent kiss which leads to sex.
I'm watching a gay movie right now on Netflix and I'm 95% sure that some of these people were former porn stars. Even the females.
