I like the fact that Sun Studios 'gives' these recordings to talentful artists, even though Elvis and Johnny Cash were mainstream artists when they recorded there. They could have chosen to stuff in Bruno Mars or James Morrison too, but they didn't.
Always been a great song. The great great thing is when a team of artists assemble into a studio and there is this glow.. this inspiration.. this rube of of each other that makes for a great session. And that's when sometimes the magic is captured forever. Very nice indeed. Wayne
@jackofalltrades156 - the full half hour has been airing on various PBS stations in different markets with more to come - we post the schedules on our Sun Studio Facebook page.
first saw these guys on Letterman last night (I think it was a rerun) and wow, can't believe I never gave them a listen before. I immediately fell in love with this guy's voice (I know that sounds kinda gay but I don't care)
Todo lo que tocan, lo convierten en oro... esperamos la llegada de The walkmen a la ciudad de México... no fue sificiente su llegada en el estival en el Estadio Azteca
Just saw them last week in Lisboa (Portugal). So amazing, that i keep coming back for more. One of the best albums of the year (my top 3), and unbelievable live.
how have i never heard this band until recently!! i could listen to this guy sing for the rest of my life. Just bought the lisbon album and cant wait to hear it.
Go to a record shop in town, shouldn't be a problem. Not the big box stores- they play dead music. I've got Lisbon when it came out. My favorite this year. God I love this music!
I don't think these guys really have anything in common with Weezer. Especially since The Walkmen have been consistently improving whereas Weezer had two great albums in the 90's and nothing but crap since.
HE is so on about being light, even while remaining serious and pertinent, even melodramatic but not letting the sound sink in under the thematic wight of the music; something that Walkmen just keep getting better at and National move farther away from by becoming brooding, and frankly a bit boring. I have known Walkman's music for almost a decade now but I am just beginning to appreciate how wonderfully and determined they've stuck to their course. What a pleasure.
For me, they're the only band where I can't pick my favourite from their four albums. They all need time and patience to unfurl, but when it clicks, you won't be forgetting them anytime soon.
i keep coming back to this video!! i have said and will say it again... this should have a million views. his voice is effin smooth in this, cant wait for there new album!
for times it sounds a bit like the coral, but it has a 60's oldies vibes to it .. which is clearly derived from the roy orbison influence combined with bluesy guitars..
lol, no. I was just messing with you. I think it's weird to say I like x but not as much as y "of course," as if y is naturally or obviously better than x.
@trevfrank pretty hard to pick a favorite. a few are "Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone," "Rue the Day," "In the New Year," "Canadian Girl," "138th Street," "Bows + Arrows," "Lisbon." i do love "The Rat", but it's sad to see it overshadow all the other great music they've done.
I agree, Cbob222. I saw them in May 2004. They opened for the strokes and blew them out of the water. The first song I heard from them was the rat and I gotta admit I hated it..........at first. But then I saw them on Last Call with Carson Daly a couple weeks before the show and they played Thinking of a Dream I Had and the song gave me chills. Been a big fan of them since.

wait you guys actually like this crap band?? I have seen them open for Spoon and KoL, and fell asleep both times they played! Easily the most boring band ever on stage...lean back some more when you scream your crap lyrics buddy!
Just an addendum to my previous post: thankfully I do not have to attend a Kings of Leon show to see The Walkmen that night. That would be embarrassing.
These guys definitely are not the greatest band ever, as a great number of YouTube fanboys claim, but they have a certain charm, puncuated by a vintage sound, that is enough to hook a sucker like me. I'm looking forward to seeing them here in the Commonwealth of Kentucky Fried (or grilled!) Poultry. Curiously, their website says Cincinnati, OH, but the Mad Hatter is actually on the south side of the Ohio.
Hope this band makes it in Europe. Fantastic collective.
