Many people see Fed´s backhand as a weakness, but that is not totally true imo. Offensively his backhand is fantastic. the one hander only hurts him when he is on the defense and nadal pumps mega top spin, high bouncing balls to his BH.
@Celtinet Yeah,, But It was in the masters cup final 2010 at the first set,, the third game on Nadal’s Serve ,, Federer Was on advantage ,, and he had the break ;;
federer wins because he keep making low percentage shots in his prime to the tour's horror. Now he hardly make those shots anymore, playing defensive slice back.
@GueorguiJoukov its easier to handle high and heavily topspun shots to the backhand with a 2-handed backhand....rather than a one-handed bh unless youre very tall
i could have got that ball....... if i had warp drive. =P seriously godly backhand thou, i wish i could pull stuff like that off. dont even noe how many ppl on the tour could pull that off in a set
the important fact in this shot is the footwork, look how early and high federer takes the shot so that the ball gets a nice spin outwards. amazing shot
no prob!! But it really depends on anticipation. I can upload an example of a similar shot Roger hit against Rafa on clay where he completely wrongfooted him similarly!
@jHoraaa Check out highlights of Fed vs Nadal in the finals of London in 2010. They have a point that ends almost exactly like this. And as you'll see if you look it up... Spoiler alert... Nadal is far from all over it. Problem. :)
ya agreed. fed was 40-0 up and on serve when he played that shot against ferrer. must have given him a tonne of confidence. in this vid, federer was closely tied with canas at 40-40, with canas attempting to hold serve. so it must have been much harder to play that shot given the stress factor that is involved while trying to break serve. Proves that Fed has nerves of steel and amazing talent!
Federer: GET THAT SHIT OUT OF HERE!!!

Federer is only 6' 1 if I recall, not "very tall" by many standards.

correct me if i'm wrong but in a nutshell, you're saying you are willing to learn from your mistakes?
if you are, that's great! keep on going and i like your analysis of federer's backhand.
tut4nkh4m3n 2 years ago
once again, "limits"
i'm not trying to be difficult or picky, i'm just pointing someth out so ppl won't make the same mistake
tut4nkh4m3n 2 years ago
"limits" not "limitates"
limitate means to be bound by a line...
limits (in this case) means to be restricted, hindered, bounded, unable to proceed...
tut4nkh4m3n 2 years ago
that poor linesman... he must've been terrified.

That's the say Nadal hits all of his groundstrokes. He puts so much spin on them that he can generate crazy angles like that!

Yeah, he may have hit it back, but Rafa would have lost the point. The backhand was too good.

Canas of that time ran like Rafa, believe me. In fact he eventually win that match. That ball was out of anybody's reach
