Referee Milford admitted later he wanted to send Gazza off, but the delay caused by his injury and treatment, made him hesitate and didn't sen him off. In fact for the earlier tackle itself, Gazza with the high boot should have gone. Scant consolation to Forest. Had they been 1-0 up and correctly against 10 men, I think Clough would have got his FA Cup. To add insult Gazza's sub, Nayim would play a pivotal role in Spurs triumph.
I don't think Nayim would be fielded had Gazza gone.
Now Gazza's gone and topped that by smashing his car up and his face in the process. Nice one Gazza. How to have the world at your feet then piss it up the wall.
No. He single handedly changed the game of football more than any man ever. He headed the players movement to get rid of the maximum wage, he's the reason we today play for 3 points for a win and not 2.. he started match of the day.. and then from a achievement point of view.. he managed coventry all the way from the bottom division to the top in consecutive years. He's one of footballs most influential figures of all time.
@ziggywatters you are absolutely right about hte influence of Jimmy "the Chin." Love him or loathe him he ended the era of players being treated like property and not people.
Yeah that tackle basically ruined Gazza but he was a disaster waiting to happen, if it wasnt then it would have been another time. I dont remember the penalty or the dissalowed goal though
He was very lucky he wasn't sent off. I remember watching this interview years ago and agreed with Jimmy Hill. That tackle resonated throughout the rest of Gazza's career.
Fucking legend Jimmy Hill.

Jimmy Hill was 100% right. Gascoigne was an idiot that day and should have been sent off
