All i want for Chrstmas is a house and garden(with gadener!) just like Jamies. Plus his talent, genius and creativity. Yeah, that should just about do it!
So glad I am having this today...or my mouth would be watering all day! Great recipe. My grandmother from Italy made it (used some crushed red pepper flakes, but otherwise the same dish) and we all grew to love it. Simple food is the best food!
My Grandmother was Cherokee. She aloud no waste!! I see your going for the prime and tender hearts of the veggies.. Done very well indeed!! My grandmother was very frugal and this was a staple meal in her house.. Amazing meal!! Thanks
this is how everybody in the world should eat... its shame that not all of us can enjoy and more importantly, appreciate this kind of cooking. absolutely amazing, kudos to jamie
This man is just amazing, i watched every single episode of this show when it was on. ( I think in 2008) I just love his rustic cooking with fresh food, he is pure genius.

That looked like horse food!! I love to watch cooking of all kinds but that was terrible! Cabbage not washed, No salt or pepper and other spices of any kind other than parshley and thyme! Ridiculously oversized vegetables! BLAND, BLAND, BLAND, AND....BORING!!!!! and that drizzle of olive oil wo't do anything but make it taste even worse!
This reminds me of Jigs Dinner, a dish in Atlantic Canada that is made with corned beef and cabbage...its so simple and is best served with mustard, cider vinegar, butter and salt and pepper...soul food
illos hay un cap en el k el jamie tiene a 4 xabales y les hace pruebas para darles un restaurante me podriais decir como se llama esos capitulos? gracias!! y todos somos jamie oliver!!!(k cutre x dios)
you dont need to wash the cabbage!, if you know cabbage layered really tight! He chopped off the soil part of the cabbage already before dumping it in the broth.
He probably already did, judging from the looks of the cabbage, it was pretty clean when he cut it up. You can't really say that he did or didn't though, since the full video was edited.
in America, cabbage will cost 39 ct a lb or sometimes 69--bag of potatoes 2.00--you can use at many more times------celery--1.oo-------you buy all for maybe 8;00, but you will hve more for later.
yes, this is humble food.. but i can't believe how much of the vegetable he wasted. we cook hamhocks and these types of soups, in my culture, but we save all the veg pieces for a later veg stock, or for compost. humble food makes the most out of a little.
I totally agree caramimi, it's terrible how much he wasted!!!!! So many leaves of cabbage and celery particularly. There was no need for all that to be thrown away!!!
@caramimi I did'nt see him throw the rest in the garbage though? I just assumed he or anyone would use the rest of the veg later, in stocks or something else.. what makes you think he just through out the cellery stocks in the bin? haha.

I grew up with this kind of food. In the Azores we killed a pig every year in January, and we would have pork meat for one Year. We don't do that anymore. I'm in Boston now.
But, I still cook this kind of food every Sunday when I am home from work, and need comfort food.

I like his style...his food is not made to look pretty or "dolled up" like in most American cooking shows where the food must be prim and proper...
it's real and gets to the genuine side of food and how it appears

I assume the boiling water he threw it in would kill any bacteria or nasties and send the dirt straight to the bottom of the pot.
