  • suprisingly this is his own song its not of a spoof of the talking heads

  • the verses are just like "artists only" the chorus is like "stay up late"....."they'll never miss it" is a reference to "born under punches line "don't you miss it! don't you miss it!"..... "this is not my...." is reference to once in a lifetime.... "i made a big mistake" could reference "seen and not seen"....some of the noises he makes sound like "what a day that was" by david byrne solo, and the final guitar riff is very similar to the "and she was" ending.....hopes this helps :P

  • Around 1:08 when he goes 'huh' was hilarious, just like Byrne in a few songs.

  • this video is awesome. well done my man.

  • Bill Lumbergh?

  • "This is not my beautiful stapler...this is not my beautiful chair!" Once in a Lifetime reference!

  • 0:55 Was that supposed to be a Bill Lumbergh lookalike? If so, you totally nailed it.

  • As big of a Weird Al fan as I am, I'd never heard this song before. Excellent Talking Heads pastiche (or as Al calls them, "style parodies"). I almost like his pastiches more than his parodies. I've heard he's doing a Weezer one on Alpocalypse. Looking forward to hearing it.

  • dude looks like Jimmy Fallon

  • It won't play in the middle of the song. It does not work

  • Is this an unofficial video?

  • @Breakfast221 yes. Very.

  • @Breakfast221 Might as well be official it's so damn good.

  • This video is officially permanently associated in my mind with this song, I can't think of the song without imagining this video. I LOVE the video, thanks for uploading.

  • its a really good video

  • Enjoyed the work you put into that. Thanks for making it.

  • Great job on the video. I liked it a lot. :)

  • this is really well done. good job : )

  • Nice job! This is absolutely perfect :D I loved the ending, the only thing that would have made it better would be if it said at the bottom "This entire video was filmed backwards" lmfao great work

  • This is fucking brilliant.

  • @SteveEdmonston

I too thought this was a spoof of Devo; he sounds mire like Mark Mothersbaugh than David Byrne.

I know my Devo pretty well but can't match it to any of their songs. Not too swift with T.H. Songs, though.

Any ideas what song he's spoofing?

  • @ArianWhite

He's not spoofing a specific song. This is one of the many songs where he parodies someone else's style. Dare To Be Stupid was his Devo spoof.

  • i thinck that this is gay. giblubo

  • Nice job, especially liked the reverse stuff at the end. :-)

  • The fact that I'm sitting in a cube at work watching this just makes it even better.

  • that is such an old computer! we had one like that! except the monitor was a little bit bigger.....ahhhh memories of watching weird als lastest video on that compute.....

  • Great Job jedbadda weird Al would be proud

  • I love at the end how it reminds me so much of Amish Paradise`s backward ending scene...

  • hahahahalololololololol

  • AC/DC, Dog eat dog? ....

  • nice work on a video :D

  • Comment removed

  • Sometimes I tell myself, "This is not my beautiful stapler! This is not my beautiful chair!" lol

  • Sounds more like Devo via Duran Duran than Talking Heads.

  • Proof his style parodies are superior to his normal parodies

  • Good job!! Though I wish you had actually bent some paper clips into the shape of small animals. LOL

  • The drum part during the verses is from and she was

  • awesome work dude!!!

  • funny make more

  • Thank you Al for the mention of the Carcinogenic properties of artificial sweeteners.

It's absolute fact and you just don't hear it

  • It`s fun, the end is just like the end of Amish Paradise.

  • Very very funny video. Excellent work!

  • For those that are interested - the verses are very similar to Talking Heads "Artists Only" (from "77") and the chorus to their "Stay Up Late" (from "Little Creatures").

For not intentionally funny sendups of Talking Heads style, see Liam Lynch's "Fake Talking Heads Song" and Brian Eno's "King's Lead Hat" (an anagram of "Talking Heads").

  • the lyrics, "i may say this is not my beautiful stapler" and "this is not my beautiful chair" are plays on the once in a lifetime lyric, "this is not my beautiful wife".

  • bingo!

  • You are very gung-ho. man I need to get a life.

  • Ah well, I'm happy being a loser. Did just reply to my own comment? Holy shit!

  • this is a pretty perfect imitation

  • That boss totally looks like Bill Lumbergh. Is that the same guy?

  • I agree. He sure does mmmmmmkayyy.

  • rofl, liquid paper. Great vid

  • the mixture of Talking Heads, Weird Al, and this video makes a truly epic combination...

  • XD this is not my beautiful stapler!

  • 2:01 - What are those lyrics?

  • "Sometimes I tell myself: this is not my beautiful chair!"

  • No, after that. The "hummmmmhaheihumm" part.

  • Nug doogi doogi dug dug doogi daya ay aaah ha ha

  • how were you able to do this? where did you do it?

  • Awesome track, and an excellent video for a homespun job.

  • it isn't

    it's by weird al

  • like the hair

  • that was great

  • hahaha this is funny :P

  • That last scene was awesome!

  • Something tells me the last scene was filmed backwards. Was it?

  • Obviously, yes.

  • I didn't know. Just don't give the "Captain Obvious" routine.

  • lol 1:04

  • Weird Al doing Talking Heads, what an awesome combo.

The first line, is a reference to the TH song"Found a Job" from 'More Songs About Buildings and Food'.

"Do I smell jelly donuts" is a reference to 'Cities' from Fear of Music. A lot of the last-line repetition seems to come from that too.

The 'sometimes' bit is from 'Once in a Lifetime', of course.

"I made a big mistake" is a reference to 'Animals' from 'Fear of Music'.

The riff might not even be TH, I dunno, it's so familiar....

  • @samadriel It reminds me a little of 'And She Was'. Then again that's just me...

  • @samadriel the riff feels like and she was

  • @samadriel The riff of the chorus is -very- similar to that of "And She Was", though, like you say, TH references abound. Al's homages to specific bands are always amazing.

  • @samadriel - the "This is not my...." schtick is also from Once in a Lifetime

  • @samadriel thanks i dont listen to TH but i heard there great but ive always been a weird al fan, and your information shows me how genius this song that i used to think was an average not so great song actualy is.

  • Classic.

  • Even if it's not a direct parody, it'll be a style parody. This is definatly a style parody of "And Se Was" & "You May Ask Yourself". The Night Santa Went Crazy is a style parody of both "Black Gold" from Soul Asylum & "Mama I'm Coming Home" from Ozzy.

  • it's "once in a lifetime" not "you may ask yourself"

    very true though :)

  • My mistake. I was about to say "Same as It Ever Was" too.

  • Definitely parodying the Talking Heads :D

  • This reminds me so much of Talking Heads music.. I'm a david byrne fan, but have been a wierd al fan just as long.. Al does a pretty good impersonation, considering he made this song at the same time that Talking Heads was getting popular.. Around 84 or so..

  • In your humble opinion.

  • This is not my beautiful stapler! That has got to be the funniest part of this video, not to mention the obvious David Byrne inflections in the voice. And the "And She Was" ending. One of the funniest Weird Al videos ever...

  • I LOVED this! You and Al absolutely captured the mindset of the corporate worker. Charming vid for a terrific song. Thanks for doing this!

  • it'd seem like a picnic at first, but then it'd get realy boring and you'd wish you had work to do.

  • Pretty adroit Talking Heads pastiche. Well done, Al.

  • hahahahaaaa

  • This is great! I particularly like the dancing on the chair/desk and the KITH-esque "I'm crushing your head" move when the boss gets angry.

  • This video is fluffin brilliant!!! So is the dude in it... he rocks. Great job and THANKS!!

  • Talking Heads = Brilliant

    Weird Al = Brilliant

This weird type of humour = Brilliant

This video is great in every way .

  • It is on the "Polka Party" album, and that is from 1986, so it is earlyer than that ;)

  • The song was from the 80's, but this video was made recently, I think.

  • the computers look like they're from the 90s lol.

  • We had a big monitor until like, three years ago :)

  • this is the best tribute song to Talking Heads. Just got The Sand In The Vaseline Compilation for My Birthday

  • Great video, The boss in this video looks

like very much like Lumbergh from the movie

    "Office Space"

  • haha it does. mmmyaaaah i'm going to have to ask you to come in on Saturday mmmkayyyy

  • I saw on wikipedia that Weird Al had made a song imitating the Talking Heads so I looked it up and was not disappointed in either the song or the vid.

  • hey thanks man

  • Good stuff

  • Duh it's a good video!! The dude playing Weird Al in the video is HILARIOUS!!!!

  • Ha! This is an awesome video for this awesome song. Thanks!

  • Funny sounds like David Byrne

  • uhh...this IS a fan made video...I would know, I made it.

  • @jedbadda well its seems like something weird al would do, nice job!

  • if this wasn't fan made don't you think al would be in it?

  • Whoa! Most fan-made music videos suck, but... this actually does an underrated "Weird Al" Yankovic song lots of justice. Excellent. EXCELLENT!

  • GREAT VIDEO :)

  • WOW...Somehow, I can see Weird Al doing all of this at his firt desk job!!

  • This dementoid liked it

  • awesome

  • Love this song!

  • Hey, I expected a lame video. This one is actually pretty damn good.

  • This is Weird Al, don't worry.

  • I dont thinks its qweird al vid. Many people make music and vids then say thee by weird al....you might want to check the catalouge on his site weirdal. com of course to check whats his...

  • i don't know what to say....? i think weird al looks handsome in this video...who knew?

  • its a fan made vid its not al but.. you are true

  • yeah I have to agree here , the guy's pretty cute!

  • it is pretty cool!

  • Wow... Somehow, I can imagine Al doing all those things in the video during his first desk job.

    5 stars!

    Nice camera position too.

  • is the boss supposed to look like the guy from office space?....he really does

  • haha, its my dad!

  • funny

  • Bloody great clip - is this legit or fan made? Whatever the answer top stuff... Someone let me know what other Weird Al' clips are worthwatching (I don't have the time to go through them all!) Thanks

  • It was fan made. Thanks for the compliments! My fave Al videos are Smells Like Nirvana and Eat It. Check those out.

  • What, no Talking Heads references in the video?

  • Whats your prob beyerrkluva?

  • Huh?

  • forget it im just mad cuase someone haked my emial.. >:\

  • i thought it was well made. 4 stars

  • One of my very favorite AL songs. Not a bad try for a video.
