The Breville comes with a gold filter, the Tech with none. Did you use a gold filter in the Tech or paper? If paper, could the taste difference be because of this? Also, what temperature does the Breville brew at?
I would love to see blind taste between those two coffeemakers and pour over(maybe two people with different pour technique like you did earlier) in Hario V60.
I'm about 100% sure what will be the winner there.
@klarinetta We've discussed this but they are such different preps and I don't really see the point in comparing them. It's also why you never see us compare superautomatics with semi automatics -- just a totally different market in our opinion. - Kat
@SeattleCoffeeGear Those machines are more expensive, much more difficult to keep clean and do just an ok job saturating the grounds and you can't control the temperature.
@klarinetta Yeah, but the markets for the preparation are totally different and comparing their end result doesn't give much benefit -- it's addressing a question that no one is really asking. - Kat
You Go Breville! They are getting some fabulous products out on market lately with the Smart Grinder, the BES900 and now this. Speaking of the Smart Grinder - how do you think it compares to the Rocky grinders or the higher end Baratza models? I'm in desperate need of a grinder and I can't find any other reviews of the Breville besides the one you guys did. I think that's 'cuz most coffee snobs seem to look down on Breville but for $199 I am seriously considering it...any thoughts?
@ehgz1 I think it's got great features for the price, but you do need to upgrade it with the shim kit in order for it to work with espresso. Also, they are just beginning to expand their warranty/repair/parts story in the US so that story isn't quite as together as with the Baratza or Rancilio support ... but that will likely change over the next several months. - Kat
Williams Sanoma has the Breville exclusively right now
