@186mjn Thank you very much for that very insightful piece of information. I would care if I actually gave a shit about what dipshits like you has to say. Fuck you.
I wish I knew where that Beethoven puppet was today. Sure it would be worth it to sell it -- it's gotta be worth a fortune now -- but I don't think I would want to sell it. I would just want to know where it is today to know that it has been preserved as a part of the Muppet history, the Jim Henson genius, the celebration of the life of Victor Borge and just a damn funny puppet.
@Namaechan - Yes.....but CHILDREN can find "slow" boring & The Muppet Show was a primetime kids show. Which incidently kids most likely wouldn't get the jokes.
When Borge went to settle in the US way back, many danes felt he left Denmark.I think the oposit. He was a great ambassadeur for Denmark.Makes me proud to be a dane watching this video, laughed a lot too..again
Victor Borge suffered from tremendous stage fright. The reason why he never succeeded as a consertpianist. At the conservatorie in Copenhagen he´d crack a joke everytime he performed. He would stop in the middle of Rachmaninovs third, make a joke or read a poem. Hillarious. Uforlignelige og usammenlignelige Victor Borge. Du er savnet.
Beethoven is a big enough man to survive some gentle joshing more than 100 years after he died.
Anyways, this reminds me of a story I heard of another musical satirist who was approached by a fan after a concert, and was told that he turned the fan on to classical music.
Victor Borge was a musical genius who didn't take himself seriously. The Muppets gave him the opportunity to show his immeasurable talents to a wider audience. In the same way theat Nuryev and countless others did.
The muppet show was like the SNL of that time. I remember watching this episode when it aired (how old am I-whew). Celebs were fighting to be on the Muppet show! How cool was that? We need this show now!
yes but I want them back in the classic format. In the muppet theater and not the muppets tonight crap. That was OK but the classic episodes ruled so hard. My old folks tell my I used to climb out of my play pen as a little kid if I only heard the opening music of the show...
Some of the greatest talents have appeared with the Muppets. I wish there were more entertainers like this today. To laugh is a great gift, and to be able to laugh at oneself is an even greater gift. As a classical musician, it is refreshing to see someone not be too serious.
How can you al say that this is fantastic? how fantastic can be an old insensitive piece of shit like borges laughing at the misfortune of Beethoven expresed in that sonata? thats not funny, and you are stupids.
Loosen up a little, damn. Granted - its a beautiful piece of music and there was a lot of pain and suffering that was poured out into that piece, but I'm sure Beethoven's feelings were not hurt because of this skit.
Beethoven had to put up with a lot more crap in his life than a few good natured jokes written to entertain an audience of people between the ages of 7 and 20.
i am a afroamerican and i fell in love with victor borge after seeing a special on pbs one night after that,i seek him out and got is dvd very talented guy , may he rip
RIP Victor. Saw him live in Oslo in the fall of 1999. I was 23. It was amazing, hilarious and he was in GREAT form. Even then (at 89) he pretended to fall of the piano chair (but caught himself before actually hitting the floor)! He was scheduled for a second show in May of 2000 and I got tickets for that as well, but then it was cancelled because he was ill. Six months later he died :(
That exactly what happens when this piece it played too slow! As Andras Schiff said in his Master class, "You can have breakfast, lunch and dinner and the poor pianist is still playing this first movement!
In 1967 a girl was crossing the road to go to her friends house when a drunk man run her over. Then he hid her body in a giant pile twigs and set fire to it.

Yeah he meant to make a pun on Ludwig van Beethoven by calling him L. Beethoven as in "El Beethoven" like it's in spanish.
