@viviz2001 I have been in heaps of different clubs from Sydney up to Cairns and not once have i ever seen anybody dance even remotely similar to this. This is without question a Melbourne only dance style, if I busted this out in the States I'd get laughed out of the club. Errbody shuffles in AU, that's no question, but its typically LMFAO style shuffle. Someday I'll pop on down to Melbourne, and teach ya how to Dougie.
This vid is at least 10+ years old. I remember seeing it when I first started going out back in 2002. This is the original Melb Shuffle, not the shit you see nowadays.
@Braxaddictshuffler yeah imo its much better. the new stuff is nothing for me, especially the music they use, overuse of those "acid" sounds... and their moves are so exhausting they have to pause every few minutes :D with the oldschool dance you could go on all night. ;)
I started out with hardstyle-HSA/HSK-type shuffling, but I've learned old school like this as well. Hardstyle feels more free and exhilarating with its swift, ground-covering moves and sheer power, but this is more meditative and conserves energy.
Its funny how HSK preach themselves as the innovators of hardstyle. Whats funny is seeing older footage of guys like jericho and william's past style. Very original like to the melbourne shuffle. they slowly evolved into hardstyle forgetting where they originated there dance. To me at the end of the day that should be the thing that shouldnt be forgotten, the origin of the dance that we aussies can call our own. Wake up call to u kids who call yourselfs australians hanging shit on our own dance.
Honestly this isn't too great or fun to look at, either. 2007 to 2009 was when shuffling was at it's best. We all know that LMFAO killed shuffling but the old-school elitist guys that are trying to say that this is the best shuffling are just semi-hipster dicks.

I wouldn't go so far to say that Hardstyle is not shuffling. Like shenlong1975 said, "Things change as the music changes," and I agree. The way I see it Hardstyle is just an evolved form/variation of the Melbourne Shuffle. It's just the shuffle with more emphasis on the running man. While the original form, from what I've seen, seems to incorporate more of the T-step and different variations of it. I suppose it's just a matter of preference. I'll admit though, this video displays true shuffling.

@shenlong1975 yeah, hardstylez compared to melbourne shuffle is like liquid compared to popping. liquid uses elements in popping, but since the music doesnt really have a clap and ppl don't hit at all, its not really popping. just waving and speed control. its part of the evolution of dance like u said, it has a lot to do with the music
I can see a lot of different influences in this dance, c-walk jumpstyle. And i can also recognize some t-step and spins which although very different to how they are performed today are still recognizable. Some moves I couldn't see at all though such as extreme spins,kicks and glides. But i can definitely see this being the original melbourne shuffle.

Why is it called the melbourne shuffle? These dance steps and many more were being done in the 90s at major NYC clubs and probably even before that. The rave culture has died here and moved to to a purely hip hop club culture so you dont see this much any more but all these glides and shuffles are old news here.

If you happen to find videos of some of the old school dancers from 10 years ago etc, you will notice that they do so much more than stomping in the one spot for half the night!!!!! I watched an old lady put out a smoke the other night on the ground and she was stomping better than most ive seen...lol

Things change as the music changes, but hardstyle'z is NOT Melbourne Shuffle - It is hardstyle'z but there are some Shuffle elements in it as well.

@shenlong1975 yeah, hardstylez compared to melbourne shuffle is like liquid compared to popping. liquid uses elements in popping, but since the music doesnt really have a clap and ppl don't hit at all, its not really popping. just waving and speed control. its part of the evolution of dance like u said, it has a lot to do with the music

I can see a lot of different influences in this dance, c-walk jumpstyle. And i can also recognize some t-step and spins which although very different to how they are performed today are still recognizable. Some moves I couldn't see at all though such as extreme spins,kicks and glides. But i can definitely see this being the original melbourne shuffle.
The modern version looks heaps cooler though.

I love how most of you are bashing on this video. MOST of you guys should be thankful, if it weren't for guys like this (in the video), their wouldn't be any shuffling. Hell I'm sure half of you weren't even shuffling during this time. So if you think this isn't Melbourne Shuffle, you need to do your research. Learn to respect the original.

Why is it called the melbourne shuffle? These dance steps and many more were being done in the 90s at major NYC clubs and probably even before that. The rave culture has died here and moved to to a purely hip hop club culture so you dont see this much any more but all these glides and shuffles are old news here.
