How long have you yourself been training? How was it decided that you yourself have enough experience to correctly pass on the knowledge to others? Is this something you charge for? Do you do any non-weapon based training?
@Heathbar04011 I have been learning since I was young..training sinceI was 13...so 22 yrs. I was asked by my students. They came to me. I do not charge...this is why I put it freely on the web. I have a multitude of knowledge to fall on to that has nothing to do with weapons like a sword or spear.
hey is it cool if i put this up on my web site? we are a small larp group and this video is very useful for new comers so they don't just "jump in". we would be giving them a quick run down but if they seen this, it might help
Thank you, is not enought to explain my gratitude on what your doing for all foam swords fighters. You are giving a great present to the world fighter's community. The ALPHA team of new Caledonia are now friends of yours, and we have to bow for you. Thank you angain
Hey I wanna thank you very much for your tutorials and lessons because I too am a fan of sword fighting and have my own little group of people with whom I play and also teach. I'm just really happy to have found these because alot of my friends use various weapons and so far you've covered them all in other videos and being the teacher knowing the way you present and teach will help me. I will give you credit and reccomend your videos to all my friends.*subscribed*
Thankyou, and no..we don't dress up for practice. We have a metaphoric story that we are telling, that we wear costumeing..but so does any actor. When we get together for traininf, we just wear what feels comfy. Thanks for noticeing.
Just a comment: an 'analace' is a long dagger and is around 24" total length, that "short dagger" is the same length as any rondel dagger I have seen or used. Some times I wish Gygax had actually picked up a dictionary or historical text on medieval weaponry, all he's done is confused a lot of people about what is actually a 'short sword'.
Another note, you're handles on your 'long blades' are really, really long. A long sword (not including claymores, which are anti-cavalry weapons) typically has a handle of 8 to 11 inches long. That goes for both European and Asian swords.
Thanks for your imput. It's good to know that there are some people out there who nave taken the time to learn this. I often have to use Laymens terms so that most will not have to ask so many questions. I truly am glad to see that there are some who actually care still.
Of all the boffer groups out there that I've seen you guys seem to have the best sense of humour. I'm part of the council of a swordplay group in here in Edmonton, we don't used boffers though, we use padded wasters (historically correct dimensioned and balanced wooden swords with padding). Some of us like to check out who's out there and how they are doing things, that's how we found your videos.
It's good to see people having fun, and not taking themselves too SCAriously.
Thanks much. Tried that once. Too much politics. Too much ego. Too much locked into what was period or authentic ways. Too much Drama. With us, it is about the learning, and the joy of what we do. We do not compete...we do not even concider ourselves a group like the SCA nor are we LARP. We are a school of learning. This frees us from rigid thinking and allows us to be in the moment. As we should be...all the time. Our sword fighting is just one part of what the Knights are.
We felt pretty much the same way, that's why we came up with the solution of dividing the organization into two levels, a purely recreational level which is primarily concerned with safety and having fun which uses padded wasters that are made from wooden doweling, pipe insulation and duct tape (they're still balanced correctly but are a lot lighter than a real sword). The only requirement is that you can show enough self restraint not to wack people in the face.
We have biweekly training sessions and War-Games out in public parks once a week. Loads of fun gets, people running around and teaches them self restraint and basic mechanics. Easiest description would be paint-ball with padded swords. We throw in different classes and abilities just for strategy, but in our manual we explicitly state that if you wear costumes everyone will be forced to stop and make fun of you. =d We don't LARP, if your name is Steve, you are Steve when you're playing.
For a lot of people that's all they want to do, even some of the council members, and we have no problem with that and don't discourage it.. For some of us we also want to progress onto the actuall martial level of the organization where we practice medieval martial arts proper and have armoured combat using transitional leather harnesses and wooden and metal wasters. But to get to this level we have to take part in the recreational level as well to keep us grounded, cuz pompous people suck.
right on! If you have been doing it all day, you should understand why I love this so much. Keep it up! You might want to check the lesson vids if you are new.

I have a challenge for you and your "Knights of Grey".
Check out Amtgard... Technically a LARP, but actually more of a Boffer Sport!!
I have watched quite a few of your videos and feel that you would have your eyes opened in a large fashion by our organization...
Our organization, Amtgard, has honed boffer combat into highly effective Martial Art form, if you will...
You made the comment that your "Knights of Grey" would come to visit other games...
Find an Amtgard field near you and go visit!!!

I think what you do is amazing in a way.
I'm somewhat ashamed to admit i like swordfighting, but since you guys don't "dress up" and do fake things, its great!
It really is a pity that we don't have such sports in our country...

Is the blade on your longsword the same length as the blade on your shortsword? What size PVC pipe do you use for your spear and for your longsword?
