Nahh, scrap that, I just read that the Plus/4s came equipped with a SID plugin card. It's all SID and the sound compression is producing the artifacts, baby!

Well, fuckutube64, I made the tune and I'm a c64 composer, so yeah, it's SID at its core. However, the prod *is* Plus/4, so the sounds changed somewhat during conversion and became unmistakably TED ;)

I used to have a Plus/4. Nice machine. Shame it's only now that coders are really pushing the machine to it's limits.
