The Residents specialized in the deconstructing familiar tunes. This version of the Ray Charles classic, seems to have been done in the style of Harry Belafonte's recording of "Mangwane Mpulele", from his "Streets I Have Walked" album.

I'd have to agree, the Residents do awesome versions of other's music. I like all their Elvis stuff so much better than the originals. I think their versions have more substance and emotion.

probably the best version of this song i ever heard in mi life.

And that is exactly what i love about this band, they are so good musicians, that they are cappable of taking every song every musical stile, study it from the fundation, bottom and up, and make it bether then the original.

Not sure I'd be able to agree on it being the best version, but it is an amazing cover for sure. Love the really dark interpretation and that horn sounding harmony with the backup voices mix so well.
