It's hard to imagine how much different commercials would look just several years later. They turned generally darker with crappier music and got edgier, with more "futuristic" graphics styles, a trend which continues to this day. Also, not to mention the letterboxing (black bars) that came with the new century! (Yes a few '90s movie commercials hat it, but I reallly noticed that change from 2002-2005.)
Hey anyone know where I might find this old commercial, I cant remember the brand name...but it had a kid running a race, and he grew up as he ran, then at the end of the race he looked back and saw the little him. Anyone know the brand and or a link for it?
I was in 5th Grade when these commercials aired, so I would have been 11-years-old!
Haha, I remember the hype over the year 2000 and the end of the 20th century! Yet, a week later, nothing really changed and everything was back to normal!
The best year of the 90's was the last year. I still have a soft spot in my heart for 1999. The best year of my childhood. Although I HAVE developed a new appreciation for the early 90's over the past year or so.
That Christmas I received Donkey Kong 64, which added to my small collection of N64 games. I also received a Dreamcast that year, as well, along with an assload of other crap.
@sega31098 Yeah, I know. But the whole world was making a big deal that the 20th Century was ending, even though we technically still had one more year left.
after viewing this. i realized this tape was taped over and the date is incorrect it was recorded March of 1999. Time Warner Cable was formed in 1989 through the merger of Time Inc.'s cable television company, American Television and Communications Corp, and Warner Cable, a division of Warner Communications. They decided not to add the Time in Time Warner cable due to their 1985 agreement with the FCC? That remains a mystery. In late 1999 is when their cable boxes said time warner cable on them
Around late 1995 Warner Cable was advertised as Time Warner Cable, In 1996 every cable set top box had to be swaped out for a digital one due to their new digital cable offering. They were always Time Warner since 1989 They just added Time later. This was done the same time they bought AOL.

@pannoni1 Really, I find 5 main eras in commercials:
1. The B&W era from the birth of TV until around 1966.
2. The colorful, socially concious, descriptive era from 1966/7-1976.
3. After a brief "disco transition" from 1977-1980, we have that "catchy jingle, flashy" era of 1981-1989 (with 1990 on the cusp of eras 4 and 5).
4. The more "laid back, convential, modern era" of 1991-2000.
5. An early 2000s transition, then the "dark, edgy, geeky" era of 2004 to the present.

i totally agree. but 90- 93 were great 94,95,96 were the stuff of legends and 97-99 were a great end to an awesome 10 years.
sort of like Return of the Jedi is to star wars. but then everything that was built up in the 90s was destroyed...now we are...in..this..."time".
