yea i Thought about that fact but. if you placed some sort of alternator on the wheels. like small hub motors, as the car runs it can be used to place the power back in the aux batteries when the car is in motion like a alternator would do but when the car is sitting it can just use the original way of charging. this concept can also be applied to the batteries also when gliding or just cruising.
@MrBry329 Conservation of energy. An electric air conditioning would be less efficient because the engine would have to convert it mechanical energy into electrical energy which would take the same amount of energy plus a 15-20% ineffeciency. You wouldn't save any gas, only burn more.
Now be green on the freeway and see if you still get that fascinating amount of efficiency in a realistic way, I promise you even still bringing out the off AC, windows up and driving 55 mph in the far right lane you probably wont get that high with that car.

electric cars are actually less ECO-friendly. where do we get our electricity? by burning coal. what are car batteries made out of? Lead/Lithium and acid. lithium must be refined via blast furnace which eats up entire trees at a time. then a shit ton of Co2 comes out of the ore when burned/melted. and then car batteries bust be replaced/disposed of every few years. a British study was done and the freakin Land Rover was proven to be more ECO-friendly than a Prius. LOL
I've got an '04 Civic Hybrid that averages about 45mpg in the summer. I have gotten 57mpg going 60mph on state highways. The car has the 1.3 liter engine and a 5 speed manual. i love it!
@imbloy542 Honda did the Hybrid drive a little different than Toyota. My '04 Civic has an electric motor in between the engine and transmission. It's called Integrated Motor Assist (IMA). My car drives like a normal car, the electric motor assists the gas engine when needed. Unlike the Prius my Civic cannot run on electric alone. Though the gas engine does shut off when you stop. With the 5-speed you have to have it in neutral and have the clutch in for the engine to shut off.

The Insight EX with the paddle shifters IS A BLAST to drive. It is really the practical driver's CR-Z. Essentially similar controls and styling, but with a back seat and four doors. And I'm getting 40-45 MPG real world mileage, at 8,000 miles. Check it out!

I just bought this vehicle because I am stuck in traffic 90% of the time here in LA. This test is fairly accurate. I've gotten 55mpg when not in traffic and while in traffic I've been getting 45mpg. The Insight is not as fun to drive as my Cooper S use to be but the Insight does have a fairly stiff suspension. YES some things are on the cheaper side but the build quality is superb. Driving with 4 passengers and a little bit of luggage wasn't too bad either.
Fun to drive my ass. I bet that thing is as cramped inside as a closed coffin. I'm sorry but you folks are foolish in your belief that japanese cars are superior. I bet you that a 409 dual quad 1963 Impala could beat any car in Honda's line today by many car lengths. My 1963 Impala with a 350 could do just the same while getting comparable gas mileage with its 4 speed automatic.
Oh and I get leg room, trunk space, and enough hip room to comfortably fit 6. Unlike your rice.
@Supergungun Yeah? And you get 5 miles to the gallon...Retard. Focus on what the video is describing and leave your dumb idiotic comments to yourself or a video that actually pertains to your dumb idiotic comments.....
@Supergungun How would you get comparable mileage when your car gets 5 miles to the gallon when this car gets 30+......You're an idiot. Don't bother commenting back. Waste of time.
@Supergungun How would you get comparable mileage when your car gets 5 miles to the gallon when this car gets 30+......You're an idiot. Don't bother commenting back. Waste of time.
Someone needs to get their facts straight. 65+ mpg? Sorry, at best it's 45 mpg highway, 40 mpg city. Stop misleading people. A car doesn't even exist yet that gets 65+ mpg.
i think this car is design for urban driving with more frequent start stop driving conditions. Hill side drive not much different from using a regular car
Do you have trouble climbing steep hills when you have the car loaded down with passengers and luggage? I'm just wondering if it struggles under heavy loads (like 700 lbs or more)?
My 08 Honda civic 5 spd manual was advertised to go up to 40mpg but in reality it returns 30 mpg. 30 mpg even while i coast down hills in neutral and drive with the highest gear possible. my terrain is a mix bag...long highways and some hills.
We are " So Cali x Autos " . We are here to provide inexpensive reliable Cars , too you the people .. As usual the brainless majority ignores fuel economy and insists on driving gas guzzlers. And then they complain about their Gov being submissive to Mexico and Arab countries that deliver the oil.
I drove mine today from Napili-Kahului, Maui and back and averaged 59.5 mpg. Its 25miles +/- oneway with winding roads, hills and 20-30 traffic lights, there was also about 30-40mph winds in one area. I drove on economy the whole time with the A/C set to 78F and Auto. Had to break suddenly a couple times and punch it a couple times to get into traffic. My wife seems to only get 38-45mpg but she is absolutely oblivious to any of the feedback on the dash and just drives normally. Hope this helps.
Cars telling you if your green... how many mpg... auto stopping, strating on a push of a button... WTF! Cars aren't cars anymore there fucken computers... thats why I don't drive shit like this, give me great tuned engine, transmission, stearing wheel, pedal, 6 speed trans and I'm set
Many hybrid car owners simply buy the car, and never modify their driving. These cars offer as much fuel savings as you are willing to capture. I use all hypermiling techniques I can to drive my Hyundai, and it is useless, because the car is not designed to get more than 30 MPG.
I've had my Insight for a year now. Drove from Portland to Los Angeles on only 2 tanks of gas. I drive my Honda like you would any other car and I average 48 mpg.
Unlike Prius, Insight is more user friendly; it doesn’t have variety of throttle programmes. Just, a single feature carries out all the jobs together via the ECON mode. The indicator of ECON mode shows two types of lights – green & blue by symbolizing the fuel efficiency of the car. This is easier to comprehend and hence more favourable than Prius.
I was wondering how I managed to average 43mpg (36mpg US) in a1.6 litre Fiat Brava during pass plus which included several 3rd gear hill climbs, quite a bit of motorway driving and town driving. One time my RPM hit 6000 accelerating in 2nd to about 55 overtaking something. Because I was with my driving instructor, I wasn't doing any coasting to junctions out of gear etc, I was driving 'properly'. I think because it totalled 190 miles, the engine was nice and hot.
i don't think some rinky dink car like ford is going to outsell this or the prius. honda has been making fuel efficient cars for years and they aren't going to stop. all ford and other american cars can do is how to make a big v8 that sounds "like a mans car". what's the best mpg the new focus gets? i dont' imagine it's not 65+... way to go, you've made yourself look like a douche over the internet.
Prius has proven it's dominance over the insight. though insight is still a cool car. I test drove both. Prius is hands down faster, more refined, quiter, and more efficient..
And their technology is very innovative.. They rewrote the book on hybrid tech.. The insight is much less revolutionary. They basically just took existing technology and integrated it into their vehicle, while prius built a completely new technology!!
Advanced or not-the prius has more problems atm from what I can tell serious ones. thats why I would have no problem investing into a Insight over a Prius hands down.
Lol "growing leaves"...sound familiar? Oh wait that's cuz they copied the Fusion lol. Gaurantee you Fusion hybrid will outsell this and prius combined. And ya as others have mentioned, the Jetta TDI is way more stylish and get consistent mpg in the 40s. Not to mention the torque of a 3.5L engine. Still like the Insight tho at least until I saw the In(side).
lol... total Hybrid sales for 2009 was 290,231... The #1 Prius sold 139,682 in 2009... The #2 Insight was released in March and sold 20,572... The Fusion was also released in March and sold 15,554... The Mercury Milan (aka Fusion) sold 1,468...
Total sales between Prius & Insight 160,254... So lets review...
Both = 160,254
Fusion/Milan = 17,022
Difference = 143,232
Not saying it's impossible... but the Fusion/Milan has some catching up to do...
Does anyone else think it's a bit ironic that a green car has so many screens, lights and a/c climate control, power steering and a propper stereo?
In Europe hardly anyone buys hybrids because diesels fill that gap. The same customer would probably get a BMW 116 d, 114 bhp, 190 lb/ft of torque and 62.4 mpg average. You can drift it too, but it doesn't come with an 'eco' button for everyone to see.
wow. the argument about prius vs insight is very lame. if you all care about saving fuel and environment then a public bus is more efficient than any hybrid.
i'm in pheonix and it just ranked #1 in air pollution! i wish people here were smarter and invested in something like this more often instead of their 12 mph hummers just to drive two blocks away and get some groceries.
All cars should have a technology like that... PS guzzlers are shit of yesterday. Nobody can impress me with Power machines, but something like the Insight impresses me very much!
It's pretty easy to get thumbs downs. Just go to random videos and hate on whatever they are talking about. You can hate all you want, but all it makes you is a hater. Every car in the world has haters. People find reasons to hate everything. It's to slow, or even if it is one of the fastest cars in the world, they will still hate on it saying it cost to much. So what you are doing is nothing new, just gay.
I'm selling my 2010 Honda Insight EX dark gray 2,400 miles on it paid off title in hand for $19,500 contact me. Perfect car...but I want something else...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Prius is cool and all, but I think that it is ugly. I especially dont like the way the speedometer is in the middle of the car. Honda makes better cars than toyota any day, so in general, I think that this honda is better than the prius.
You are just bias. As far as I can see neither one of these cars is turning any heads with their looks so thats not why people are buying them. If Honda were better then Toyota, they would be out selling Toyota, which they aren't. Not even close. Remember just because you like something over something else, doesn't mean it's better. Oh, by the way, if youre thinking Im being bias towards Toyota, think again. I own a 2006 Acura RL and have owned 3 (96,99,03) TL's. Check out the MPG WARS video.
Econ on and carefully driving i get about 450 miles per tank or around 47MPG
Econ OFF and not driving carefuly i get
360 Miles per tank or around 43/ MPG according to the display. Considering that i can fill the tank from TOTALLY empty with only about 22 or 23 bucks is not bad! LX model is all you need unless u want cruise control and rims like on the EX. I rather upgrade the Rims later and stick with the LX...
yea i Thought about that fact but. if you placed some sort of alternator on the wheels. like small hub motors, as the car runs it can be used to place the power back in the aux batteries when the car is in motion like a alternator would do but when the car is sitting it can just use the original way of charging. this concept can also be applied to the batteries also when gliding or just cruising.

My 08 Honda civic 5 spd manual was advertised to go up to 40mpg but in reality it returns 30 mpg. 30 mpg even while i coast down hills in neutral and drive with the highest gear possible. my terrain is a mix bag...long highways and some hills.
65 mpg? i think people will reserve the decision.

Many hybrid car owners simply buy the car, and never modify their driving. These cars offer as much fuel savings as you are willing to capture. I use all hypermiling techniques I can to drive my Hyundai, and it is useless, because the car is not designed to get more than 30 MPG.

Yes, yes it should. Rolled down windows are a huge source of drag.

Well I did get 72 MPG in the first 10 miles because of coasting down a hill but the mileage dropped to 53 MPG going back up (it was a big hill).
I cruised at about 48 MPH in the slow lane and through more coasting and light acceleration, I got 58.7 MPG
I think with windows up I can get around 62 give or take a mile. Still thats amazing

Still like the Insight tho at least until I saw the In(side).
yellowmusicfreak 2 years ago
lol... total Hybrid sales for 2009 was 290,231...
Both = 160,254
Fusion/Milan = 17,022
Difference = 143,232
Not saying it's impossible... but the Fusion/Milan has some catching up to do...
I won't comment on the NON-Hybrid VW...

It's pretty easy to get thumbs downs. Just go to random videos and hate on whatever they are talking about. You can hate all you want, but all it makes you is a hater. The Prius is cool and all, but I think that it is ugly. I especially dont like the way the speedometer is in the middle of the car. Honda makes better cars than toyota any day, so in general, I think that this honda is better than the prius.
goingtobeapilot 2 years ago
You are just bias. As far as I can see neither one of these cars is turning any heads with their looks so thats not why people are buying them. If Honda were better then Toyota, they would be out selling Toyota, which they aren't. Not even close. Remember just because you like something over something else, doesn't mean it's better. Oh, by the way, if youre thinking Im being bias towards Toyota, think again. I own a 2006 Acura RL and have owned 3 (96,99,03) TL's. Check out the MPG WARS video.
