Hillage got funky in some music in his style because he was heavily influenced by Parliament and Funkadelic. He told that in an interview. In the history of rock, Hillage is one of the most original guitar crafting his sound in a synthesized search.
@knads98 really???? if so your old man is one of the finest jazz fusion drummers in the world and has inspired countless drummers! we play light in the sky in our set list and it blows the flipping audience away!! say a big big thanks to him!!! xx one love
@GeezLeeweez Don't take this wrong but Steve was, for my money, a long way ahead of YES. Hillage, whenever I saw him, always seemed to be playing from sheer joy and without ego.
I love the fact that Acid House and techno rediscovered him in the '90's and found that he'd already made many of their sounds back in the '70's. Now the technology is up to speed with the amazing sounds that must run around inside his head - perhaps the best is yet to come?
Dear jmb92555 - kind of wierd echoes man - I first came across Steve when I went to St George's Hall in Bradford, West Yorks, to buy my tickets for the T'in Lizzy "Bad Reputation" gig. There was this poster with a guy holding the coolest looking Stratocaster I'd ever seen, and looking like he knew what to do with it. The rest, my friend, are very pleasant memories. Oh, and the T'in Lizzy gig was damn good too! Glid forever, SH unzipping the zype!
I remember Hillage (a.k.a."Steve Hillfish") saying his music was written under the influence of and should be listened to while under the influence of pschedelic drugs
But, of course, it still sounded good w/ out the chemicals, and it STILL sounds good, now. Steve was one of those guitarists who seemed to be able to improvise endlessly with no problem. I think his version of "It's All Too Much" is the best Beatle cover ever. BTW, Steve's great, but Todd is God.
Yeah, I wasn't into Joe Blocker's style at first, but I got used to hearing all those clever little tom fills and catchy snare riffs, and hearing some live stuff later w/ out him sounded kinda bland. He had a lot of imagination, and he was still pretty funky.
año 1977 yo teniaaaaaaaa 16 años ...........y pasaba las tarde impovisando en esta base .... con my fender precision bass........... que bueno nadie lo conocia
I remember the first time I heard this. '76...'77 maybe? My sister and I were browsing in a little record shop. She was looking for Allman Bros or Doobie Bros and I was looking for Thin Lizzy or something. Then the guy behind the counter put the album on. We both looked up at the same time and knew that one of us would be buying this. FM radio was becoming more corporate-bound and rigid in their playlists by this time or we might have missed it. Jo Blocker became a huge influence on my style.
@ajaax17 This guy was not underrated for musicians but it was to late for this kind of fusion. It's nice to hear this again really cool, this album shine. The live is also a true bargain. i am a diehard fan of this era

You're absolutely right ! Nowadays Hillage is more contemporary - looks different, sounds different, but is still a great musician.
