  • I must admit...though poor old Mick Karn sadly passed away....this was pretentiousness to the max.....I remember reading a review of their one and only album which stated that it was music for people who dressed like funeral directors...seeing this video.....I guess they were right! Mick and Pete were great musician/artists in their own right but I don't think creatively they really did justice to their respective talents....at least thats my humble opinion...

  • wow, haven't heard this since the turntable broke...thanks...cheers.

  • MK : Rest In Paradise

  • RIP IN PEACE MICK (OR RATHER ANTONIS MICHAILIDIS) AS HIS TRUE GREEK NAME WAS... GREAT BASS LINE AS USUAL....

  • Wow, for the very first time I have heard that song without one of the lines being "the judgementirror" due to my scratched 12 inch! You all must be fascinated by this news! There may be more revelations soon, factsonlyinterestingtooneperson fans!

  • 6 dislikes??

  • How do you call a Peter Murphy? Flash a lazer disc off the sun, and you'll get him everytime. :D

  • :(((

  • sad news indeed

  • Mick was the reason I had to have a fretless bass. He changed everything for me. Thank you Mick for your many musical gifts. RIP

  • Mick Karn, you will missed but you will never be forgotten. Thank you for introducing me to some of the best music that I have loved and still love for nearly 30 years now. Rest in peace, Mr, Michaelides....

  • Dali's car? is that a reference to the Beefheart song? just heard of this band now, I'll definitely be looking into them.

  • goodbye mick

  • R.I.P Mick Karn...hope your pain is over.

  • Goodbye Mick...

  • R.I.P. Mick...

  • I always loved this. I hope Mick gets better soon, I really do. I had never heard of a fretless bass until I discovered Japan. Having said that, I was also 11 years old. The involvement with the laser disc is odd- but how modern was it then. Wow. Thank you for posting this.

  • How come all music isn't this good?

  • the video was filmed in Malta. in the 80s.

  • amazing song.

  • Northampton looked a bit different back in the '80s...

  • this must be amazing on cd. love you mick. feel better soon.

  • Mick is seriously ill, please donate to his appeal here:

    mickkarn.net

  • @Mhaza You're welcome. Yes, I hope he gets better soon, it is very sad news I know

  • Mick Karn is UBERCOOL!! Petes just a geeky twat!! Mick is the best!!

  • brilliant single and album, wish they'd done more

  • Yippee! I have the album on CD and the 12" single with that same poster in it! Sadly, they had to fold it to put it inside the sleeve :( but it still looks fantastic framed and on my wall!

  • The best catastrophe of a band ever.

  • Are they in the same office from the cover of Pete Shelley's "Homosapien", or was that just how everything looked in the 80's?

  • @BabysGotTheRabies sure did, but my place still looks like that

  • song is too long but back then I think anyone would of loved to see peter do anything.

  • pete is soooooo skinny

  • the album and it's tracks are appalling! the only good tune is 'His box'! Give me a bit of Ash anyday!

  • I love this album. Karn is a genius.

  • As a former bass player, Mick Karn's work on this album absolutely dumbfounded me. And I was listening as a Bauhaus fan.

An overlooked classic for sure. Thanks.

  • The judgment is the giant outmoded blank laser disc!

  • Brilliant!

  • @stephenwozniak - At least it doesn't have the shitty compression issues like most DVDs.

  • @petermurphreak You have a (belated) friend in me. To be a woman totally in lust with someone who is a gay man must be awful, and I vow to vote you up and unspam you anytime I see this injustice. Stay strong...

  • two pretentious queens in Malta! there shoud be hordes of thousands, and hundreds in Gozo! They have such a pretty channel! and the Blue Cove!

  • He´s a bleedin´muslim, for pete´s sake

  • This is a tune!

Mick Karn's bass on this track? EPIC!

  • this is a tuna

    Mick Karn's chilean bass? Aspic!

  • Pm's first music after Bauhaus. He started singing on this album. Arty video may be due to Mick Karn sculpter and incredible bass w/Japan, wrote music evidentlyapart from PM.

  • That fucking AMAZING face!!! Peter I fucking adore you!!!...

  • "Okay, Pete, hold this Lasedisc while we spin you around in the swivel chair. It's gonna look great; we'll edit like some big giant clocks and shit in the background, and it'll be really cool and cutting edge! "

  • AAAHAHAHA!! Thanks for that video. I needed a good giggle.

Can always count on Murphy for some (if unintentional) silliness. :D

  • i remember seeeing this on tv when i was a kid ,and t ithough it was the coolest video ever.

    god its horrible

  • I don't know about that. I saw it for the first time a couple years ago and thought it was pretty neat.

  • like that album and the era too T-T thanks for posting

  • last time i saw this was in the eighties

on the max headroom show bring it back.

  • Max Headroom rocked!!!

  • Peter Murphy chucking a Laserdisk off a cliff into the ocean = priceless. I also love the annoyed look he gives Mick when the glare from the disk hits his face.

  • wow! this is great!thank you for posting!

  • Love ya Pete, always a star.

  • Peter Murphy is my favorite singer!! I freaked out when he spins in his desk chair!!!!!! I do that all the time!!!!!!!!!

  • oh my god what a coincidence ,how odd you spin around in you desk chair and so does peter murphy.

wow you guys have so much in common. do you close your eyes when you sleep as well? i heard he does.

  • I have alot in common with him too! We both eat babies! How 'bout you? Oh, and forget this "closing-your-eyes" mess. We both spin cocoons when we decide to hibernate every couple years....

  • Apparently, you know nothing about Salvador Dali's painting, but after all, I'm sure you are one of those ignorant adolescents, please go back to your Britney Spears videos.

  • This album is ok I suppose. I don't think Peter Murphy's drone compliments Mick's melodies, though there are some excellent ones on "The Waking Hour".

  • Man this is hard to watch, even with Peter Murphy's chiseled cheek bones. But god love him.

  • Man, I have been looking for footage of Dali's Car....THANK YOU! This is such an interesting, profound song with such Dadaesque imagery......and the beauty of Murphy and Karn.

  • Best underated bassist ever

  • so good in fact, that he played on gary numan's dance album!

  • This video was shot in Akka in Palestine.

  • Dali's Car...love them very much,what a mix of Bauhaus and Japan...thank you 4 this!

  • What do you mean this is real corn davethecrow???

  • Why the hell is this clip keep going full screen, then the next time; it go's squishing from the sides???

  • Where the hell is this filmed. Someone please answer me!!!

  • Wow! Peter looks good with a tan dosnt he? And even though he didnt dye his hair, he's still sexy. He's just as sexy being a goth or not. And I guess I'll always be a fan if he's gothic or not. Thank you for posting this.

  • Wow! Peter looks good with a tan dosnt he? And even though he didnt dy his hair, he's still sexy. He's just as sexy being a goth or not. thank you for posting this

  • this is real corn

  • Um, by "that thing", I meant the LaserDisk being chucked off the cliff. Damn my commenting ineptitude...

  • i have 12" didnt know video existed

  • Increible!... todo un viaje...

  • They only released one album, The Waking Hour and one 12", The Judgement Is The Mirror. I think Peters voice match perfectly to Mick's bass playing. Wish they would hook up again and release more cool stuff.

  • I totally agree, both are great in their own way but complement each other well!

  • INCREIBLE! Maravilla.

  • Mick Karn was born on the Planet Wal Bass.

    An Alien Original.

The guy was so far ahead of time..a True Icon.

    Nuff Love.

    Nuff Respect.

  • haunting music - peter & mick are two greats

  • Throw that LaserDisk!

  • So THAT'S what that thing is! I vaguely remember watching one in middle school, in history class or something.

  • oh yes!!! this project was so far ahead of it's time...karn & murphy are standing behind you.

  • That guy on the bass is the reason way I decided to play bass when I was 14, thanks Mick

  • @jovisha69 wow he influenced me to play bass too !!!

  • Pete Murphy is a true lounge lizard.

  • Pete murphy looks so divine and timeless classic . Does any body have this track on cd ???

  • Yes, I do have the Waking Hour CD which I managed to find in an obscure CD shop in Manchester. I had been searching for it ever since I had bought the vinyl LP years ago. Do you want a copy of this track and how do I sent it to you? Stephen

  • wI am not the person you responded to, but I ould greatly appreciate if you would be so kind to extend that offer to me. Calliope19

  • Hi Discobitch,

I do have the whole Dali`s Car CD with all the tracks which were released back in the 80s. Dali`s car was a Project with Peter Murphy and the former Japan Bassplayer Mick Karn, truely awesome and it still is

    Cheers

    Sven

  • Haha, they actually made an ad for it in that video:-D

  • Great! There was a video then. Only remeber the song from Wednesday afternoon radio. Thank you!

  • and then they invented the CD record...:-) Got this on vinyl(The waking hour)...and now at last it's arriving on friday...on CD...:-D...brave ol' world..

  • I've had the cd since... 1990! Wish they'd remaster and reissue it with the b-sides, like the other bauhaus (et al) and japan stuff. hope hope hope.

  • @acre43 peter murphy and mick karn are going to collaberate again this year with a 2nd Dali's car album

  • watch the films...midnight express and clash of the titans...you will see the the same locations. alternativley check out moviesmadeinmalta dot com

  • It don't get much better than this!

  • Brings back memories. A timeless classic. Was it their only video?

  • Love Japan and Bauhaus, this is pants though!

  • Bauhaus and Japan meltdown ,sounds good

  • OOOPs! sorry - the tower isn't Maltese though....maybe THAT was filmed in Ireland!

  • good...we've got that sorted out finally. All interior, bus station, and old prisons are Malta. All shoreline and tower shots are Ireland.

  • Yes y'all this IS filmed in Malta - I should know! i live on the bloody tiny island! X'ireland ireland ghidlu lil mick karn!

  • Excellent, Peter Murphy has got the most beautiful voice, and Mick Karn's bass playing is sublime. And together as Dalis Car? Well, that's an orgasm xx

  • I love everything Peter Murphy does. He's so talented, he's a musical genius and he's a good actor too (in his videos, in "The Grid" and in "The Hunger"). Am I the only one who thinks he should have been choosed to play Lestat in "Interview with a vampire"?

  • That would be fantastic! He would make an excellent Lestat.

  • I thought he should have played Louis. Alexander Godunov should have played Lestat. :)

  • Interesting choice, but I'd say Alexander as Louis and Peter as Lestat. :P

  • Never want to stop watching this video. Reminds me of when they shot it, in 1984 actually in Malta. Ghajn Tuffieha. I had a craze on Japan at the time and still love their songs and Bauhaus.

  • Mick Karn personally told me that this video was filmed in Ireland.

  • The Inside maybe. But the outdoors is for sure in Malta. With the Malta Bus and all and I remember them here as it was announced on a music programme on TV. Plus my friend Mark went to the location and got an autograph from both of them. Ask Mi8ck Carn that!!! Sure they both remember Malta.

  • hey...I'm only going by what the man himself told me.

  • I have a short TV piece of Mick talking about the video to Muriel Gray on "The Tube" and he said that the location shots were Malta, but I daresay the interiors were indeed Ireland ^_^

  • I love Japan , Roxy Music of course Bauhaus tonesot- but this is neat song .Pared down and strange insrtumentation.I never saw this video.thanks

  • MIck~!!!

  • beautiful song...beautiful video

  • beautiful

    Virtual Alien
