Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the microphones are that powerful! Just bought my first video camera yesterday Panasonic HDC-SD40 now just need to find a good editing software...Any thoughts? I didn't realize that AVCHD format was oing to make it more troublesome....

for video editing software you can go with free versions or paid versions. Free: Windows Live essentials Movie Maker or Lightworksbetacom. Paid: Adobe Premiere Elements 10, Vegas Movie Studio, Avid Studio. I use Windows Movie Maker.

@toddbrannancom Thanks. Alas I have to go for a paying one. My camera format is AVCHD and seems to create CPI file on transfer which Vista cannot decode so there is a compability between Vista and Windows Movie Maker when working with AVCHD. Well you learn something new everyday eh?...
