  • The system is literally bigger than the dog gone TV he's playing it on.

  • Didn't the 5200 bomb?

  • tony blair ?

  • "What more can a gamer want?"

Me: I want the thing to freaking work...

  • "Well designed...." :P

  • What More Could A Gamer Want? a joystick that works!

  • 2:16 That sounds very familiar. Isn't it from Rally-X?

  • @Freeleacher Why the hell did your sister turned it off?

  • The 5200 version of Pac-Man is hard. Even on an emulator, the ghosts are fast and relentless; a good joystick still won't help you. You're better off just clearing the maze instead of going for perfect scores.

  • @lustyhitter Yea it is & that's what I do too (clear maze). Aren't emulators awesome? I have emulators for nearly every classic/vintage consoles/PC ever made, & practically every game/ROM for them all. (over 60,000 total). Many emulators have Kaillera Client support, for free netplay/online gaming. Online I've played MAME, Commodore 64, NES & Intellivision, but I can't find anybody to play Atari 5200 (or 400/800). What emulator do you have? Atari800Win+? Wanna try playing online sometime?

  • @gjc82071 - I bought a new laptop and some of the emulators I used on my old PC are not compatible with Windows 7. I used Kat5200 to play Atari 5200 games. I have MAME running. I have Nestopia but can't seem to get it to recognize my Xbox 360 PC controller.

  • @lustyhitter Hey, I am going to send a message to your inbox. It's just a little (but not much) too long to post here. I may be able to help with some of your controller, Win7, etc issues.

  • I didn't know Jon from Garfield owned an Atari 2600.

  • this brings back rage

  • The 5200 had great specs for the time it was a cut down Atari 8bit computer but it had horrible controllers that were prone to breakage.

  • The worse game is on the better console,

But the better game is on the worse console.

Can't have it both ways I guess :\

  • I remember I wanted this on the Intellivision so bad I had trouble sleeping some nights. I also wanted a version that I could use the apple pattern on.

All I had was the 2600 version that a friend gave to me. It sucked so bad that it was given to me a few hours after it was released and the friend no longer wanted it.

  • you have NO idea how difficult this game is to master... especially at an arcade where the joystick was friggin greasy from everyone else playing! This was the ORIGINAL arcade game

  • I thought the 5200 was broken

  • "what more could a gamer want, exept mabey packman"

    howoldschool xD

  • welll fuck that controller

  • me and my cousin(RIP Vorry) used to create our own patterns but on the arcade consoles. Wow. I had the 5200 back in 86. Sniff sniff.

  • "What more could a gamer want?"

A controller that doesn't fucking break.

  • what more can a gamer want? An actual game

  • My friend had this next door and we would play this after school. I remember how cool star raiders looked on this and pac man looked as close to the original as i've seen on a console. MAME is the best thing ever now to play all these golden age games.

  • This looks like a pretty good port of Pac-Man.

  • So how many controllers were broken during the making of this also how much was Atari paying this guy to give the 5200 a thumbs up

  • 50 years later we will discuss how much Wii , PS3 and XBOX ruled the world.

  • I wonder what would happened if Atari came back into the console wars? Would the market be big enough to support 4 home consoles? Interesting to think about.

  • @KingRetro1985 Absolutely impossible, the company Atari we see today is not the company from 1982, it just has the same name. Atari are now a french company.

  • @ryanredz really well that sucks. I did not know they were a French company. Thanks for the info.

  • @KingRetro1985 Sadly yes, the company divisions that made games and systems for Atari have been sold off to different companies. The only 'Atari' left is the naming rights and it's owned by a french company who renamed themselves Atari after buying the rights.

Fun Fact: Activision Blizzard is also owned by a french company!

  • "High Resolution Graphics" xD

  • @aaraarrar Come on, it was fucking 1982

  • @ryanredz Ahaha, Yea i Kno xP

  • the 5200 was a great system, but the controllers sucked

  • @b00too, Couldn't agree more.

  • I thought that the Atari 5200 didn't work

  • This is a classic in itself aside from the arcade.

  • Even if this is very old, this is fucking awesome!

  • 70s nerd

  • @wizard101musicpics

lol look whos talking, you play wizard101.

Btw why is this a related video to Kansas - Dust in the wind?

  • this is cool and intersting but if you need a video to help you play pac man your a fucking retard.

  • cool, a number pad, now ican make phone calls with my controller!

  • You're right Depeche mode. We can all call them ghosts instead of monsters, and we can call you a girl instead of a boy. What's the difference right? You big dummy!

  • Is this guy high!!!

  • Dang whoever's playing this is pro. That'd be a sweet gig - "Hey - we need to pay someone to be awesome at video games for this video we're making"

  • Everyone, I have the original pac-man game at home and on the game it says: "Monsters." Please stop calling them ghosts. -Jimmy Rivers

  • @MrJimmyRivers what's the fuggin differenzzeeeee oyeeeee

  • maybe a ps3

  • Ahhh.... the joy of wasted youth.....

  • what do they call pac man in pakistan

  • well designed with graphics and all that huh ...well thats not what james the AVGN said :]

  • I bet the kid grew up to be a car salesman.

They're not power pills.. They are power pellets.

    pills???

  • @AfroedNinja same thing dumbass

  • @TheRackleman Look it up Genius

  • @AfroedNinja I'm not going to look up something that doesn't even matter.

  • "Cartoon show"

  • @YourTaciturnFriend Mainly its an intermission

  • Make a video of playing Ms. Pac-Man & Road Runner.

  • Entertaining cartoon show, we knew nothing lol

  • @mattycbase yep i gotten to levle 23 on Pac-Man.

  • @MrJoshbumstead is that the key level?

  • Excuse me sir... Do you know the definition of high resolution graphics??

  • this guy had some strategy for pacman :)

  • kill screen coming up.

  • Did he just coin the term "gamer"?

  • The 5200 had some awesome games, but it delivered nothing that you couldn't already get on the Atari 400 or 800 home computers. That, coupled with its low-build-quality controller, is why it failed.

  • My game memory's got to be powerful

  • LOOK! QUALITY!

  • Pas trop payant en pointage ta tactique

  • whats this guy been smoking lol first class system LOL!

  • @Cobrasaturn360 Baby back ribs?

  • @Cobrasaturn360 It was a first class system when he made this review you silly chimpanzee

  • @Cobrasaturn360 Except for the bugs the 5200 had ofcourse, but it was a first class gaming system

  • atari 5200 was to fuggin bulky and the controller was weak, literally. but this pacman version wasn't bad at all. overall, i give the atari 5200 a D+.

  • i lol'd when he said high resolution graphics

  • Im surprised his controller didn't break on him during this video.

  • HIGH RESOLUTION GRAPHICS!!!!! they must have been primitive,

shal they see our game today, thed die of pwnage

  • The controller wasn't bad for gameplay, it's just that it didn't last.

  • lol I play this game on pc IBM 286 and keep it the legacy Just PC...

  • its bigger then the fucking TV!!!

  • What more could a gamer want? Well, a controller that FUCKING WORKED!!!

  • Gamer? So a gamer is a job where they play games for money?

  • Well Designed?! *mind Explodes*

  • This is the same version thats on the Atari 400, its such a good game to play as long as you have a Genesis controller

  • Well designed yeah, except the horrible controllers!

  • First class lol

  • Pac-Man is my favorate game i been to levle 23 on it. Atari I think also made a arcade game of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote I think.

  • we got ps3s xbox 360s know

  • Oh man, imagine if the 2600 port was like that, just think how different the gaming industry would be today.

  • oh my god, the graphics are too much for me, soooooo real. I thought the ghosts where gonna jump right out at me! wow!

  • this is ansane... this stupid game only works sometime... its computer generate it.. so u could only win whenever it lets u...

  • @Txlec4E You're one of the stupidest people I have seen on the internet.

  • ATARI 5200 SUCKS , ATARI 2400 FTW

  • @Cheesecakemilitia2 Uhhh... It's called a 2600, not a 2400 FYI. But good point anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • @razorslice17 But if it weren't for the 2600, then we wouldn't have the great gaming industry we have today.

  • @razorslice17

FYI if it wasn't for the 2600 the NES, Genesis, SNES, Xbox, Playstation, Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 would never have existed, the 2600 didn't cause the VGI Crash, it was people creating pirated 2600s, System Changers, and baddly made 3rd Party games after Activision got the green light to make 3rd Party games for the 2600

  • @razorslice17 and you suck

  • Hey, if you guys like video games then you'd love DanePillz show reviews! Check us out!

  • Pac-man, Pong, Asteroids are the most epic games im the world. and nothing can't change this.

  • ummmmmm.. yeah, its not so much a 1st class system, and why did he say memory?

  • Guys don't forget this was made in 1982 You idiots

  • he talks as if this is really first class, ha, I'm pretty sure this guy doesn't know what a PS3 or an Xbox 360 is xD

  • @KkahluaHero ?? this was made in 1982

  • @macbeasty I kind of know that, I mean, it's just funny, watching this video while it's 2010, and you obviously didn't know I was joking so >.>

  • @KkahluaHero ah. youtube doesnt show sarcasm/jokes well

  • @macbeasty true...

  • @KkahluaHero That's because PS3 and X360 weren't around when he made the video.

  • @jackette55 I WAS JOKING!!!

  • @KkahluaHero Yah you Failure

  • @datcrip258 fuck you, stupid fucking cunt, what don't you get, the I? the was? or joking? Ya, I fail? Well apparently you can't fucking read, stupid dick licking cunt..........

  • God if only I had that SWEET TV he's got :/

  • I feel like smacking him.

  • im surprised,your controller works

  • its weird that the term "gamer" was used in the late 70's

  • oh memories, the 1st pacman I played when little child

  • "Well designed"? Take another look at the controller in your hand, buddy.

  • Well designed?!!

  • That proves god is mean.

  • I was just unlucky enough to be born after the 1980s. If god wanted people to be happy, I would be born in the 1980s.

  • @sygo7g Needless to say, I never made confirmation. I wonder why?

  • @sygo7g You bet! There was a certain magic about going to the mall with a fresh pocket of quarters and a rainy afternoon. I hat to say it, but some of my best moments was skipping CCD class and heading over to the local penny candy store to buy candy & play Jungle Hunt!

  • This version of Pac-Man is ridiculously hard, the most difficult version of any 1980's console version of the game. The ghosts are relentless and move much faster than you do. The first apple level is as far as I've gotten so far. I think maybe clearing the board is a better idea than eating the ghosts in this version.

  • mhh... good old Atari xDDD We have one (don't know wich version) *-* so sweet...

  • This was the same version used on the Atari computer cartriges as well

  • Haha: 'what more could a gamer want?' imagine if that guy saw a playstation 3. hahaha

  • @naphlongification Hahaha indeed.

  • @naphlongification I think he would explode

  • @naphlongification i would spit it...

  • ihave pac-man,ms. pac-mn and pac-man ce on XBLA and pac-man on my phone

    XD

  • Well, the 5200 ripped off the Intelivision, i guess. Heres my fought.

  • Hoques, the Colecovision came out -after- the 5200, so who ripped off who?

  • According to Wikipedia, the Colecovision was released in the USA in August 1982. The Atari 5200 was released in the USA November 1982. Besides, back then all companies ripped each other off. Even TV shows in the 80's..Webster was a rip-off of Different Strokes, Airwolf tried to be cool like the Original Kight Rider, etc.

  • i think billy mitchell should bitch slap this dude for playing the game like this.

  • "What else could a gamer want?"

-A smaller case and a controller that doesn't break and that is NOT just a damn ripoff of the Colecovision Controller.

  • Comment removed

  • Very sad. The system had potential. Atari should have released a smaller case design. Also, they should have stuck with a variation of the original controller design for the 2600. If only we could go back in time and tell the moron designers!!!

  • @cryinglion Yeah, they even had a developers' petition not to release it with that horrible controller. They planned on releasing a new one but then came the Tramiels and screwed it all up.

  • Good luck with the shit controller.

  • i want an atari 2600 and pac man and a controller and a direct plug in adapter

  • Well designed, powerful memory, high resolution graphics, built-in sound synthesizer, combination joystick, paddle, 4 fire buttons, and 12 character keypad all in the palm of your hand. What more could a gamer want!!!

  • @BSOD4

a pc with a quad core cpu

    nvidia GTS 250 oc SLI

    aTB hard drive

    and crysis

i still like classic pac man over any game

  • I wish my PS3 had a 12 character keypad. It's lame to use the one on the screen :P

  • lol

  • interesting!

  • Atari 5200 a first class system? It would be if it wasn't for the controller.

  • really my dad had a atari 5200 but it had different controllers!

  • @sportygrrrrrrl11998

The controller isn't that bad. I have two that work and they work well as far as control is concerned. The button contacts were weak, but they can be easily fixed today with a rebuild kit or you can glue some tinfoil dots over the graphite ones inside the stick yourself.

  • I

    WANT

    ONE!!!

    REALLY

  • hahahahaha

  • Question: I've got an original pacman cartridge from 1983, who knows how much it's worth?

  • A couple bucks.

  • If I had REAL Ataris and not Virtual ones, I would have it for 10 Pounds

  • @Stuntmandouble08 If it's an atari 5200 one, you'll sell it for £6 / $10

if it's the 2600 version, its not even worth dog shit

  • What more could a gamer want?

    Simple: a functioning controller!

If I ever get one of these, I am going to go on and spend the cash on restored controllers, and pray to god all holds out well.

  • high resolution graphics! :P

  • lol they make it sound all so new

  • Because this video was recorded in the early 80's so it was then.

  • "High class game machine"? "Well designed"?

Are we talking about the 5200 here?

  • I hope you know that there are refurbished Atari 5200 controllers that are made with gold contacts, not carbon,so the controller NEVER breaks, guaranteed. I heard of it,checked on eBay,and I found some results. Yet,that was like 5 months ago. Plus, they go up as high as 69.95 for ONE controller. Had not seen another controller auction on eBay yet. Expensive and hard to find...perfect! T_T

  • Ebay seller "electronics-4-fun" sells all kinds of repair kits for various Atari controllers, including the CX52 (5200)controller.

I'll be honest about my game collection hobby: the CX52 controller is probably the easiest controller that you can repair. It's like changing tires of a car, except only half as difficult.

The hardest controller to repair is... gulp, the Colecovision controller. It looks really cool on the outside, but there are numerous design flaws inside. Just nightmare.

  • an invisible foot...?

  • lol he said "well-designed, powerful memory, high resolution graphics, built in sound synthesizer, combination joystick, paddle, four fire buttons, and 12 character keypad all in the palm of your hand. What more could a gamer wan?t" lol. all that stuff is outdated now and soon in 20 years, today's gaming systems will be outdated as that is today.

  • you know this video is from 1982

  • yea i know thats why i said this stuff is outdated and soon our technology is going to go the way of the Atari. Plus i can tell its from the '80s because of the way he looks and dressed and the and the way the video looks.

  • But as the AVGN demonstrated the 5200 is capable of concealing a bottle of beer within it. It probably wouldn't stay cool in there though.

  • *sneezes* i'm sorry, mister, but uh, i'm allergic to atari 5200 bullshit

  • @figment1988 20 years from now your children will be saying the same thing about your ps3 and 360.

  • @blackstones83 They certainly will.

  • What more could a gamer want? I know, how about a controller that isn't so utterly uncomfortable, faulty and isn't cheap enough not to include a self centering spring.

  • lol well designed machine my ass

  • Man pacman is such an awesome classic

  • it's kind of squashed to fit the horizontal format of home TVs but it was way better than the 2600 version by far!

  • I was one of the lucky few that never had any problems with the Controllers and loved them , to me the controllers worked for all the games I had and one my all time Favs for the Atari 5200 was H.E.R.O , man I love that game .....lol .....

  • Great system flawed by some of the absolute worst controllers ever designed, as many people have already said.

  • What makes him so sure it wasn't an invisible PENIS?

  • First Class Game Machine my ass ,one the controller dosent works and the system itself will prone and breaks down
