Voce potentissima e con un registro acuto meravigliosamente potenziato e squillante, in questo tipo di repertorio credo che abbia ben pochi rivali. SPLENDIDO.
Wow, Donald Braswell, a contestant in America's Got Talent 2008, just released his version of Nessun Dorma on his new album "We Fall and We Rise Again". It is simply wonderful, like this rendition is. If anyone else loves Nessun Dorma like I do, check out Donald's YouTube montage. Before the accident in 1995 that took his voice away, Donald studied under the great Franco Corelli and even looks and sounds a lot like him. Tough shoes to fill, but Donald's tenor has returned brilliantly.
me en canta franco corelli se decia que tenia el re pero no creo porque el si natural le cuesta dar por ahí si alguien tiene una grabanciónde corelli en re seria genial..
Corelli is really powerful...But he doesn't regulate his power smartly...I mean he is agressive all the time...I think Pavarotti shows and hides his power at the right moments...That's why I prefer Pavarotti, but it's just my opinion...Anyway I love this Corelli's interpretation of Nessun Dorma as well...
personally I'd rather listen to a "listen to my powerful, sexy voice" rendition of this song anyway, the plot is corny as hell. tenors may have more emotional repertoire, but there characters don't tend to be as bad ass as baritone roles (with the exception of Manrico).
Calaf: marry me
Turandot: hmm no, well maybe if I can't guess your name but I'll think about it, but if I guess it then I get to kill you.
The first time I heard Corelli was on a live broadcast (Turandot) from the Met in the early 60's. I was absolutely stunned by the beauty and power of his voice; I had never heard anything like it nor have I yet to this day.
I saw both Corelli and Pavarotti sing this role live. Both were very great tenors. But their voices were very, very different. Corelli owned this role and Pavarotti owned Rodolfo, but I won't transpose them in those roles.
If Pavarotti would have made a recording of this then it would have sounded better than Corelli's version. Pavarotti's live version is better than Corelli's recorded version. I still think that Corelli ranks up there in the top 3 to be considered the best tenor of all time. No one has been the face of opera like Luciano has. Corelli is great, but Luciano is a better talent.
Yes, it is lip-synched to his recording. There were a series of these lip-synched areas in costume that were done for European TV. Caused a little scandal/disdain at the time. But, at least now we have them as a memento.
The singing is wonderful, but the video looked lip-synched... Am I right? (I don't doubt that it's Corelli's voice that we hear, but I'm not convinced that he was actually singing when the filming was done.)
grandissimo Franco... Ho avuto l'occasione di parlarti per telefono... La tua voce è inconfondibile e insieme a Bastianini alla Callas e alla Tebaldi chissà che bel concerto starete facendo da lassù
When Corelli was singing at the Met, you bought, begged or printed a ticket and then prayed he'd appear; you went, and it didn't matter what opera he was starring in. He always sung his finest and I never left the theater less than thrilled.
dificilmente habrá ptro calaf que le iguale tanto en voz como en presencia

buddy, their no hidden power in this piece whatsoever. it's all right there and you either got it or you don't. Corelli had it.

raige...you're right on...Corelli had great
vocal control. Pavarotti of course was
a lyric tenor with a smaller voice and
not the same incredible projection.
For a guy to say he didn't regulate his
power smartly is just ignorant.

Having a color recording even if it is lip-synched is better than nothing.
Wonderful.

I agree lip-synched. The soundtrack from complete recording with Nilsson 1965

@kynnjo i love corelli, but it was "ok" for him to lip-synch on television, but not mario lanza. why?
