@sedmoagalnikful If the US refused to pay it's debt, China would cut all trade and America would have no metal and compound resources coming, it's industry would grind to a halt and no consumer products would arrive at America's docks. The US has a massive trade deficit with china not through choice, but because it can't afford to manufacture in it's own land.

And the US spends 7 times as much in real terms than China while $1US goes over 20 times as far in real terms in China.

@sedmoagalnikful Because a US Dollar goes further in China it means that China's military budget is enough to design a 5th Generation fighter, stealth nuclear submarine, a nuclear aircraft carrier, a 1cm accurate GPS system and issue next generation rifle's and body armour to it's soldiers.

China gets more than 2 times the bang for buck with it's military budget, in relative terms it is the biggest in the world and that is why America is moaning about it. You fail son! Fox News sucks ass!

3) 47% of indian kids under 5 are malnourished.

4) Half of worlds chronically hungry live there.

5) An estimated million prostitutes in india.

6) World health officials calling india the nxt africa because of its spreading hiv/aids.

7) Bombay generates $400 million a year in revenue just from its prostitute business.

All your stats are fine... I accept it. But, before the economic growth began in 1990s, almost equal half of people were below poverty line. More children were malnourished, more people were hungry. Growth of the country was less than 2%.

Have we done enough to get our people out of poverty? No. We did not. But each year more and more people are coming out of poverty. It all depends on how you look at the problem. You can say the glass is half empty, you can say half full.

As I said before. I don't deny any of your criticisms. Yes, we have a lot of problems. Problems some other countries can't even imagine of. But just like the good Chinese proverb, problem is synonymous to opportunity. We were raped in the colonial era. Now we are beginning to stand on our own feet. No doubt we will fall a few times. But stand we will. Its been just 63 years, I am optimistic.

I understand what you are getting at. You are saying that India is developing, but it is premature to give us so much accolades when we have so many problems. I agree to that as well. But you see we did not tell anyone to give us the accolades, at least I did not. And personally I will prefer to not get these accolades right now. I prefer to develop and grow unnoticed like we did in the 90s.

India's economy is on a fast track and more success is arriving in years to come. What I wanna say is that most Indians try to boast about their development and don't like to talk abt the poverty prevailing for decades in India. Any country is best judged by the way its people look like and the condition they live in. So U guys should focus on these things first.

Yes, you are right that we should focus on the poverty of the people in our country. You see we sometimes are proud of the 9% growth of our economy what people sometimes fails to understand or forget is that 9% growth is not a luxury but a bare minimum required. 25% of Indians are below poverty line. This is Indian poverty line. If you go by international poverty line then this number is still higher. Why we use an Indian poverty line because things are cheaper in India...

... The poor in India tend to have more children as they view children as an asset since they will provide extra sources of income where as the rich and the middle class tend to have less children as children are liabilities, responsibilities for them. So what this means is that more people are born in poverty in India than the rich.

Growth in economy creates more jobs. All kinds of jobs from high end to low end. Due to growth in economy these people gets jobs.

When these people gets jobs they get our of poverty.

It has been calculated by Indian government that if we grow by 9% every year, then the number of jobs created in the country is just a little larger than the birth rate under poverty line per year. So, that is why 9% growth is bare minimum. Otherwise despite taking more people out of poverty, the number of poor in the country will keep on increasing simply because the have more babies.

in conclusion, instead of boasting we should focus on sustaining this growth. This not just true for India but the whole developing world. Even for China. They need 9-10% growth for the very same reason. But they have one key advantage. They control from both sides, i.e, increase the growth and if the growth stagnates decrease the number of people born in poverty.

We have been growing for 2 decades (4 for China). The west grew for 300+ yrs. We should always be mindful of that. The developing world needs to sustain their growth for a longer period before we can compete with the developed world. The developing world has the advantages in manpower. We can be engines of the world economy but that for that the manpower has to be utilized and channeled in to workforce. There is no time for us to celebrate... time to work.
