  • By 2020 Chinese demand for energy will TRIPLE. This new energy demand will be supplied by NEW COAL POWER PLANTS. Many suggest the answer is using Nuclear Power for this growth in demand. Nuclear costs around US$30 Mwatt per hour...roughly the same as coal. At the moment 1% of energy in China is supplied by Nuclear...the chinese government target a mere 2% by 2020.....Come on China show some leadership!

  • u did not frame ur question properly in ur video

u put it as "why dont u FORCE indian and china to take actions". he can do nothing to force INDIA and CHINA. if ur question is on criticising the U.S's stand u should re phrase ur question.

  • Thank you:)

  • Good question.

  • the question is not whether China or India should reduce emissions of GHG, the question is that the USA is using their none obligation to do it as an excuse to not ratify Kyoto protocol. My question to Mr Mccain had the goal to make US stop making excuses like "if they do it we will, too"

  • in the past 150 yrs..85% of the green house gases in the atmostphere has been contributed by the 30 odd industrialised nations representing a very small fraction of the total world population.

Now that china and india are looking to become indutrialised its not fair on asking them to reduce the CO2 emmissions which is efectively hindering the progress of the poor nations and the billions of people.

  • India and china have ratified the protocol. they are just not required to reduce emmissions becoz they are developing and industrialising nations looking to survive and help its citizens fight poverty. They dont consume resources lavishly and infact consumption per person is very low compared to the average industrialised nation.

  • Your right blackkat888 China has ratified the Kyoto agreement. But the first phaise doesnt mandate emission targets...which China is exploiting.

  • i represent india and consequently im not aware of the facts that are blown up in the US media about chinese emmissions.if the simple solution is to switch to nuclear power im sure that the chinese are not deliberately trying to piss everyone off.and guess what the US wudnt even give the nuclear resources to INDIA..they simply want cutting of emmissions while they consume more than 10 times of energy than indians and driving their gas guzzling SUV's

  • Sorry mate im not American, and dont own an SUV

  • so ur australian eh. guess what..the opinion that i had and my arguments are not very well researched coz i dont have the time for it. In fact its was australian cab driver who told me how he felt this was injust to indians. im glad atleast some feel that way here in australia.

  • Sorry mate..not sure what your argument is. Were you arguing that India and China should not reduce carbon emissions because they should focus on economic development (and thus reducing poverty in those countries)?

  • The answer is quite simple... they don't need to. Nuclear Power is both clean and cheap. Even competitive with coal for countries with large natural reserves of coal (China, America and Australia).

  • its not SIMPLE. the nuclear deal that US is pushing on India is that for the next 40 yrs US has control over India's strategic options in terms of nucler use and testing..US inspectors having complete acces to the nuclear plants and reactors in india..which is a problem of security.

  • IT gives US therightto withdraw or demand the return of fuel anytime they want without any reason while the US is well known for making amendments to suit its own national interest. india does not have any right to the amendements in the agreement. We have to borrow huge money and Pay INTEREST to buil up reactors..and in the middle US can just go..nah were not giving u any more fuel...so our investments will be wasted on this plan.

  • US realises that as of 1998 when india tested H bombs, india is capable of developing nuke tech..so now they wanna undo our progress by giving their technology, but taking away our independence in this. They still dont recognise us as a nuclear power..why only the 5 western countries should be nuke powers and not us?

  • no ones does each other any favour, US sees global warming as an opportunity to establish control over india's options and economy.only US does..why else did all the other countries r cool with kyoto and not US? these have to be considered as well..Its NOT SIMPLE and we r not looking to piss off the world. so dont reply saying "its SIMPLE switch to nuclear power" again. again i dont care about china coz china is a NSG and not exactly our friend in the region.

  • Sorry mate. I was only debating on how the world (including india and china) can reduce green house gases by using Nuclear.

I think the world is in consensus that carbon emissions need to be reduced and that all countries including India and China need to participate. But where opinions vary is how we are able to achieve this. I.e. use more solar power, wind or go the nuclear solution.

  • i realise that ur being constructive...but im also trying to point out that u do not have the perspective of the countries that ur blaming. im gonna say u have no idea since ur having it so easy here. not becoz im pissed off over 300 yrs of british + 500 years of muslim invasions to see our people subject to plundering/ethnic clensing in terms of destroying our way of life culture and knowldge.plus etec etc(u have to pardon my english eloquency)

  • lets not get into that..point is im not pissed off about that..so get that clear-im not blindly cynical.its simple becoz u havent explained why these countries are refusing/delaying to participate if it costs them the same to implemet nuke tech. u come up with statements like"i dont drive SUV" as if thats gonna win the argument for u

  • at this day..the western contires who had colonised the world are richer and we have to have our eductaion in english..which is a major hinderence for our intellectual development.our culture and way of lifes dying. So now all the rich countries want this situation to continue and have world peace now that they are on top.and even with so much atrocoites against us..we are still peaceful and not trying to plunder or con anyone else.

  • and further the 30 odd industrialsed countries maily polluted(85%)the atmosphere and asking the poore countries to join in cleaning up. even further, they r trying to con us while we think of cleaning up others mess.....so i could be more than forgiven if im blindly cynical. n u think australia genuinely is gonna help india...why ????even if so ..i dont care-i cud be forgiven for that too.

  • You have considered two good cons for nuclear; one being the over dependence of a single supplier of Uranium (from the US), and finance risks inherent in over-borrowing.

Keep in mind that although not all foreigners to India have charitable intentions, there are many of us whom share the same concerns and interests as India. And as such want to work together to build a partnership to tackle this global problem (and make some money and create jobs at the same time).

  • Next time don't turn an innocent/constructive debate into an argument. And try not to be so synical of 'foreigners' whom you have never met.
