How the water in the tender is kept unfrozen? Does she have some sort of a preheating system?

Tender water is not usually heated by a steam coil. Between turns the locos are in light steam and on shed other times. It is possible to inject live steam into the tender to warm the water by opening the injector and shutting the outlet valve. I am sure the C2 Project will be able to give you more info.
