  • THEE greatest EAST LA BAND back in the 60's

  • (continued from post below) To my surprise, I recently learned that Willie G's son sometimes sings with one of my friends band: Smooth Touch. He sings very well. As far as the Midniters, you can catch them once or twice a year (sometimes with and sometimes without Willie G) at the La Mirada (aka Santa Fe Springs) Swap Meet and during a few other events in So Cal throughout the year. Heard a rumor this songs title was a reference to the drug, LSD. Thee Midniters did like to party kinda hard :)

  • First off I will say that even though I was born in 1972, I'm a tremendous fan of the East L.A. sound and of course, Thee Midniters. I've seen this clip before and although it's great to see, I can't help notice how awkward some of the older white people look in the background as they watch and listen to these "brown" guys with Beatle hair cuts! Lol! Thee Midniters are legends and I recently (late 2010) had the fortune to run into Midniter: Jimmy Espinoza at a local Pomona night club.

  • I just seeing the Midniters in concert at the Gibson Amp at Universal HollyWood at Willie G rock the full house cant wait to se them again. Where I grew up in Compton we always listen to the Midniters/Giantsespecially nowing the ELA Compton connection on the Largo 36 block.

    THUMBS UPPPP

Thank you for posting this video

  • Wow!! this is amazing rare footage of Thee Midnighters..If there's anymore out there PLEASE post it!...This is definitely going in my favorites!...

  • I LOVE thee midnighters there firmes, and cuz there from east los, i was born and raise there!!!!:)

  • Is that a young Casey Kasem???I got to see the Midniters at a Latino Rock and Roll All Star show at the Greek back in the early 90's?

  • I met a Guy , about 20 Years Ago , who said that He was the Group's Manager ... would That have been Eddie Torres ??? ... That's the Only Name that I can remember being-mentioned on the WHITTIER RECORDS Albums of Re-Issue Material ... did the Group ever have An ALBUM released while They were signed to the CHATTAHOOCHIE Records Label (owned + operated by the Widow of Edward G. Robinson , Ruth Conte + HER Son , John Conte)

  • THANKS MUCH to beyondthebeat for this rare footage of our southern California lengendary group, THEE MIDNITERS.

That whole East L.A. / Whittier Blvd. era for Latino pop music, back in the day WAS the bomb baby'. NEVER forget it!

  • Hey kimg85

Nice tribute to your Dad, mentioning him being in Thee Midniters. I grew up in South Gate / Lynwood area and went to high school in Bellflower. Being a young guy and playing in a band back then, I can tell you that this group was SPECIAL. To us young cats trying to put something together "musically" and with showmanship, your Pop's group were "gods" to us. They were polished, fresh, hip and everything an upstart band wanted to be. Was glad to see them on the recent PBS special.

  • I'm assuming this was lip synced. For what show? Amazing is there any other footage of Thee Midnighters?

  • Before I saw this clip I'd only heard this song by a band called the Fire Escape who called it LSD. They didn't use a trombone! I think the Fire Escape were actually a bunch of session guys put together by the record label rather than a real group but I may be wrong..

  • Ahhh, Thee Midniters, cruising the Blvd when it was safe and fun. The car clubs, rock and roll shows, battle of the bands, sigh!

  • Thee Midnighters had so much going on in their music: soul, garage, punk and more. When was the last time you saw a '60s rock band with a valve trombone in it?

  • Thanks for this footage. My dad is the lead guitarist in this group and it was a treat seeing him in his prime. I should it to all his grandchildren. What a blast from the past.

  • A truly amazing video. I have never seen Thee Midnighters live in their prime. Greatest East La Group of all time period.

  • Anaheim Represent!

  • Wow, I think this was a local L.A. T.V. Show, "Shebang" with host Casey Kasem. This is a WAAAYYY back!

  • Wow! what show was this clip from? thanks for posting this, now that's the band that I remember dancing and romancing to! great clip! and it's great to still have Little Wille G., Jimmy, and Larry still playing those great songs for us! rest in peace Romeo, we miss you at every show!

  • @caterermam Shebang was a local pop music show broadcast by KTLA (which later went national) that aired every Saturday on Ch 5. The clip came from a special show taped live prior to a California Angels game in the summer of 1967.

  • Thanks for the memories. The 60's' the Chicano dress, style, and heritiage will never be the same. Crusin the Blvd (Whittier) was a once in a lifetime experience never to be repeated and I cherish the memories. Thanks Midniters!

  • groovy oh i remember the 60's SWEET Anaheim Stadium yes

  • Great band. They really deliveried that extra kick in many of their songs.

  • Now, about 40 years later playing at a swapmeet in your Orange County area. Great band.

  • Oh yeah! Fantastic footage! :)

  • thanks for posting this up. this has to be an extremely rare video.
