  • a really good demo

  • Anyone have the lyrics? I can't understand a single word Joe is singing!

  • it's mutt's backgrounds. same vocal sound and technique on come on over (twain). he's very domineering in the studio. that's only him and shania on that whole album. and his vocals are on the final versions of a ton of def lep songs. he's all over 'animal" and "run riot" mutt sings the backups on the final versions of those songs too.

  • @mrhorn2001

not playing the instruments, but all the vocals on come on over. are just the two of them.

  • i dont like this version

  • "A hot shot o' honey is what I need; pour your lovin' over me..."

Genius - they should have kept that line in the finished product.

  • @TXLeppard They should have! I love it! I can't understand a single word Joe is singing!

  • far better than the version we got on Hysteria.....This is awesome thanks for posting!!!!

  • the whole demo is mutt. Mutt guitars. All Mutt vox. And Mutt drum programming. Its quite obvious to anybody that follows Mutt's career.

  • @GeorgeStevensWins I can hear Phil on chorus, and for sure one of guitars are for sure Phil's.

  • @travelnorthamerica hmmm ...dipshit...sounds like youre a 12 yr old with anger issues..anyways... you obviously cannot prove either way that it is or isnt mutt lange otherwise you wouldve....the trolling sites are to the south of here, fucktard

  • Sounds like Joe, Mutt and maybe Phil's low harmony.

  • 7 people accidentally pressed dislike..

  • not to rain on anyones parade, even tho this sounds great, but that doe not sound in any way like joe elliott singing...jussayin...but its kinda neat to hear how songs become hits through demos and such...nie find

  • Einfach nur genial ,sind Leppard

  • It does say demo ,so this is probably early in the process of trying to find out what lyrics(which are different) and music would work best.

  • FAKE. No way this is Def Leppard.

  • @Lep1 It is

  • Is this just when Joe was talking about how him and Mutt just got in separate corners and recorded random things and then tried putting it together?

  • Is Mutt singing this? :)

  • @kcmet79 im sure that it was on the radio because I remember the intro...

  • This is freakin awesome!!!! Love me some Def Leppard!!!!!!

And miss me some Steve Clark something fierce!!!!

  • @MasterDownUnder...I'm guessing this was done on one of their old 4-track cassette recorders that they used to share ideas on. Very nice rarity from this long time fan. Great job defleppking!

Great to hear Steve's old riffs loud and clear. He had that unmistakable rawness in his riffs.

  • @TXLeppard I'm loving it! Miss Steve Clark sooo much! He was AWESOME! One of the best....EVER!!!!!

  • Sounds like the drums and the lead vocals are not done and what is there is just whatever happened to be sung to fill the melody during the verses :) What a rocker!

  • I actually like this version much better than the one on Hysteria. Weird

  • Ive heard this version on the radio before...

  • @jimihendrixtribute doubt it

  • These lyrics are awesome, it would have been cool for them to use it in the actual song. But either of them is good these lyrics aren't half bad.

  • O.o WOW! Thanks for this!

  • what the fuck is this? :D

  • AWSOME!!!Totally awsome!!

  • Dang i hate to say this but the bass in the beginning of this sounds so badass.WHOOO Jus Luv It!!!!!

  • This version has an edgy sound to it like it would be off Pyromania...I don't really give 2 flying Sh*ts less how polished Hysteria is that is the best album of all time and will forever be till the day I die....still the only album I can play front to back repeatedly and enjoy every song for what it is!!!!!!!

  • Woooooow...........

  • Def leppard is the beast of beast

  • i love the bass lines in the verses!! omg and joe sounds so young hehe xD

  • @defAlixxRockIt61348 I'm pretty sure that's Mutt Lange singing in the verses.

  • @beansandcornbread haha it could be..you know phil collen sounds a lot like joe singing too? make love like a man he did 4 lines and it sounded like joe.

  • @defAlixxRockIt61348 They had a lot of songs like Animal's demo recorded before Rick's car crash so this could very well be the one where he had both arms

  • @SuperPyropuncher

Actually this was one of the last songs written on the Hysteria album. Apparently Joe was foolin around on his guitar and Mutt Lange heard this and they decided to put this song on. This wasn't written before Rick's accident. You are right about Animal. Apparently that was the hardest song to solidify.

  • I was not born in these times but boy do I wish I could ha ve seen bands in action like, Def leppard, Led zeppelin, Fleetwood mac, Stevie nicks and Ted nugent

  • @96Jazangel yo def leppards still together and duz tours...they working on a 2011 tour....idk bout the others tho

  • Whoa. I like the finished product better. Def Leppard is an all time great band and Mutt Lange is the producer that brought the best out of them!

  • bitchin

  • I like this guitar better.

  • Can u reupload this so that the quality is better?

  • is it possible to download this song? (this version) or could u reupload it for better sound?

  • that's strange.. the lyrics is completely different. Not same guitar melody too. However, it's very good.... Thanks for posting!

  • Ladies and gentleman I introduce Mr. Steve Clark 3:54

  • Ladies and gentleman I introduce Mr. Steve Clark 3:54

  • as a devoted def leppard fan since the early days i must say thank you for posting this !!!!

  • this version should have been on hysteria

  • Not right version like other one better

  • lol, the verses are silly on this early version. glad they came up with slightly better lyrics.

  • Is It Mutt Lange??

  • That seems to be the consensus.

  • no its david silly

  • WHO is David Silly??

  • they used multiple drum sounds stacked on top of each other on hysteria to get the final sound, including a simmons tom sample and a white noise sample mixed in with the snare, its much more than just standard sounds from a simmons module

  • realy this was going to be the song befor the edited it so shut the fuck up if you dont know what the hell your talking about now its the remix version and personaly i like this one better.

  • oh.. thank you for telling me that

  • joe sounds really wierd

  • This is AWESOME !!! =o] im adding it to my favorites list .....

  • Def Leppard fukkin rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no i dont think so dude, i did read it in an article, but it was an interview with mike shipley who mixed hysteria, so maybe there is some truth to it? dont call him a liar man, he is a legend of the business, and lets not pretend you were there when the album was being mixed, you may not know everything! i am always learning more about how this album was made, i suggest you open your mind and do the same.

  • The lyrics are different!

    Freakin' awesome version!

  • how the hell would you know?

  • you know, they should put this out because it's not that bad.

  • mutt lange on lead vocals here not joe elliot

  • whos mutt lange?

  • The manager of hysteria, high n dry and pyromania

  • Wrong, not manager, producer/engineer.

  • He wasn't the manager, he was the producer and an honourary 6th member of leppard. He is probably the best producer in the world.

  • The god Engineer who created the sound DL has. Also Shania Twain's husband.

He took DL into the studio years ago and taught them how to make things work and sorta forced Joe Elliot to learn his potential.

  • this isnt mutt lange singing

  • hi, love this song, can u send it to me? please =)

  • I like the lyrics on this version better,if it only was produced better, still love it though 5 stars

  • Did they put this on the Deluxe version of Hysteria???

  • no they did not

  • awsome demo

  • teyhetbheath

  • aguante la pirateria muerte a las discograficas cavernicolas involucionados!! como se les ocurre cobrar x escuchar un tema musical ?? cobrenme el choto

  • Is that Mutt wrapping the lyrics?

  • love the synthesizer beats and different lyrics!

  • where is the "link to this video"??????

  • the thing u type a site into above thts on got a weird bit on the end for this sepcific vid.

  • wow. this version should be on the Hysteria CD

  • Are you joking me? The drumming sounds like Rick Allen is hitting garbage cans, the vocals sound corny and the guitar too heavy. The correct version is on the Hysteria CD...

  • this is the demo dipshit.

  • this was the demo version so obviously they would have made it better.

  • I'm fully aware this is a demo but this is dreadful considering that this is Def Leppard we're talking about here- you know, the internationally famous rock band? It's not that hard to do some basic EQ'ing!

  • They were doing their demos on Fostex cassette four-tracks. They were really cool, I had one back in the day, but they were very limited in terms of sound quality.

  • Now that explains everything! I thought (when i typed my original comment) that this was a studio demo...

  • this is a studio demo, it fact its not really a demo, this is the actual pour some sugar on me that we hear on hysteria, ...just unfinished and in its early stages, some of the guitar and vocal parts are finished and were actually used on the final version, most of the backing vocals are there. Thats mutt lange on lead vocals, they later replaced them with joe eliots vocals, and the drum sounds were later replaced, and of course this is completely unmixed, so it is going to sound strange!

  • Comment removed

  • yes and no on the drums in my opinion, whilst all the patterns are exactly the same, they achieved the final drum sound not just by adding effects to these drums, but by stacking dozens of different drum sounds on top of each other, and that is yet to be done here, so maybe the sounds werent replaced, but they did have new sounds stacked on top, impossible to tell if these drum sounds are still in there as part of the "stack"

  • Comment removed

  • i dont agree, i have actually been in recording studios when professional engineers are stacking kick and snare drum sounds, i have played on cd releases that have stacked drum sounds, so i know that they do in fact "stack" sounds, i actually got the information from an interview i read with mike shipley who mixed the album we are talking about here, im not just speculating here or making this up, there are ways to layer tracks in the recording studio whilst avoiding phasing issues

  • Comment removed

  • I stack drums in my studio. Need I say no more.

  • Comment removed

  • try layering dozens and dozens of tracks of backing vocals on a fostex four track! its actually impossible.

  • How well I know the limitations of a Fostex!

I assumed that there were several people singing at once. I was basing my info on the "Classic Albums" DVD about this album, where Joe Elliot talks about using the Fostex units.

What you are saying makes sense though. Those guitars sound awful good for a cassette demo.

  • this version

    is good but

    ..

    no like the other version

    good band

    .....

  • any chance I can get this on mp3?

  • just convert it on on a media converter, google the converter n typpe the link for this song

  • Will it give the original quality or reduce it a little?

  • the quality wont be reduced in the slightest

  • how do you do that???????? can you please explain step by step for me??????????

  • indeed i shall,

type media converter into google, it should be the first link. click it. then it should say 'enter a link' 'upload a file' 'browse youtube'. click enter a link and copy/paste the link to this video into the text box. then the link should be in the box below. click go to next step. then make the output file type mp3. (only used advanced options if you want to) start up the conversion. save the file and hey presto, great def leppard demo you can put on your phone mp3 ipod etc :)

  • wow this is really great stuff

  • The final vocal is recorded in Dublin, Windmill Studios, January 1987.

    Hope this helps and cheers,

    Lee

  • All backing vocals on this are mostly Phil Collen. Mutt does a few.

All lead vocals on this are by Mutt.

Extra backing vocal overdubs are added by the band, Mutt, plus others (friends) in Dublin, January 1987.

The final lyrics are predominantly written by Joe and Mutt in Dublin in January 1987 after the rest of the track has been completed. Sav and Phil add a couple of lyrics whilst they are completing their guitar parts in Dublin, Jan 1987.

  • Continued...

Steve Clark plays nothing on this. All guitars on this are predominantly by Phil Collen. A few minor rhythm guitar parts are played by Mutt. Steve plays no guitars on this song, even on the version you hear on Hysteria.

The guitars on this demo are pretty much final. They just need mixing. A few guitar overdubs were added by Phil at Dublin's Windmill Studio in January 1987.

  • Continued

Most drums on this are samples, programmed by Mutt. Final drums are added by Mutt using a machine at the Battery Studios, London in February/March 1987.

There are a few real symbals on this played by Rick. The rest is a machine.

Sav does not play on this demo. Bass tracks are for guide only and played by Mutt. Sav adds proper bass parts in Jan 1987.

  • To clear up some of this confusion regarding this demo...

Most importantly, this is Def Leppard. It was recorded by Mutt and Phil in November 1986 at Wisseloord Studios in Holland,

This demo is a better version of an original demo that was written by Joe and Mutt in October 1986. Phil has replaced Joe's original guitar parts with far superior guitars.

  • can somebody tell me if he finds resemblance with Roxette's "The Look"? honestly

  • Joe's voice changed so much from before and after hysteria.Lost some rawness but gained some note precision. idk just an idea i have i love both versions of his voice !

  • thats why this is just a demo

  • omg tht studdude4 is so stuk up, ever thought joe mighta bin humorin u? jesus.... sum people

  • No you might think you are the biggest fan, but trust me i am!!!! i have personally met Joe Elliott and he has signed the stuff i had, and he was amazed about the stuff i had. But i would like to get ahold of some of the rare gems you have deflepking

  • It's very arrogant and wrong to say that you're their biggest fan just because of all the stuff you have. The atmosphere in their music can be shared with anyone, and i get the same feeling everytime i listen to them.

  • don't like the lyrics

  • i highly doubt that was joe's voice, it was probably mutt putting in some scratch track voice as a guide, i don't think it's joe either. I am the biggest fan on planet so i think i would have a clue.

  • It is.

  • lol im biggest Clark fan XD

  • good

  • different then the real - but still awesome !! xD

  • i like this better than the actual song

  • 1:49 it starts

  • or should I say 1:59

  • The guita at 1:15 is the best. Love it

  • The "lead" singing doesn't sound like Joe at all....no where close...But the guitar work is great !

  • the singing is no-where near as good as Joe Elliots, and the lyics seem mixed up, in terms of the order they are in the real song. The music is awesome though, cept that cheap sounding drumming lol

  • the guitars are much more detailed in this.

  • It's true, so much rich detail gets buried in final mixes. Once mastering is done, it's a whole different dynamic.

  • this should be the real pour some sugar on me,

at least the style of singing.

  • i agree completely. but hey,

the song they ended up with is awesome!

  • the guitar parts should have been used more in the final version

  • i agree.

  • this is cool!!! the "do you take sugar one lump or two" part is said later lmao that's awesome!!!

  • That sounds very much like Mutt singing.

  • wow... this is so different! the words are pretty cool, though

  • this is cool

  • I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he's way better than Joe and could replace him - but he is an absolute chameleon.

His background vocals always blend perfectly with whomever he's working with.

It's almost impossible to argue that he's tremendously (if not solely) responsible for their colossal success.

  • this is almost better than the finished version that they came out with. way more sexual haha.

  • jesus, u need a life. joe first had the fucking idea,he was playing it on guitar and mutt liked it and it went from there, mutt helped write it,he didnt fully write it,if he did, hysteria would not get an award along with pyromania. Study more of def leppard and get up off your fat ass and for once know what your talking about

  • It's Phil's vocals that were featured on the final track

  • That makes sense now.

  • yes question STEVE...didn't Steve clark write the infamous intro? and joe wrote the chorus.... and they all collaborated on the rest didn't they?

  • Yes he did.
