@aldomovielovers wtf thai is not austronesian. they are austro asiatic. in fact thai slaughtered n invaded malays people n their land like ujung salang, rehman, menara, petaling, singgora npatani etc in southern thailand from kra isthmus to the northern borders of malaysia. lets type patani or pattanee on you tube u will know.

i studied alot and i feels sorry for the cham people. as well as the Mon people who originate in modern day thailand and burma.

the chams were kicken out of ther homeland and msot fled to cambodia. some went to malaysia, other went to an island in southern china, and some stayed in vietnam.

the Mon people llsot ther land to the thais and mon who came from southerna china (yunnan province) and stole ther land. now they live as ethnic minorites in those countries

Sorry for interrupt. I think only the experts in all 3 ways of Cam writings (Akhar Cam(ancient), Huruf Cam(Arabic), Latin Cam) have the right to decide where is the best Cam Language used/spoke.

thailand also stole a big part of malaysia in southern thailand and thats why the malay ppl in south thailand are fighting the thai gov. they want ther land back.

thailand also stole huge parts from cambodia- sisiket,buriram,surin proivinces as well as modern day bangkok.

vietnam besides whiping out the chams, they also stole a the huge south eastern part of cambodia.. now cambodia only a 1/3 the size it was before thai and viet migrated down to terorize southeast asia. i no how u all feel

Radio Sap Cham is a pioneer in promoting the Cham language on a big scale. Through Radio and especially being available online, Cham from all over the world can tune in. Cham from different regions speaks and understand different accent, but they can still pick up little by little and overtime, hopefully they will be united in their spoken language.

hey thats a really good theory. it would make sense. after they left ther land they couldnt keep there native wrting system.

so what also indonesia, malaysia and philipines also use english alphabet right? why dont they use there own?

wow cham sounds a little like khmer. Do they have their own writing sysytem?

Cham spoken in Cambodia sounds like Khmer, since they live in Cambodia and follow Khmer speech tones, while the Cham in Vietnam sound like Vietnamese. They do have their own original writing system based on sanskrit and after part of them onverted to islam, they adopted Jawi based Arabic script from Malaysia for religious reasons and today write their language in Latin script. I'm Filipino, but most of my friends are Cham muslim from Vietnam. Cham and Filipino have similarities.

ok thanksfor the answer. im just wondering alot cuz when i was in cambodia i saw alot of cham people. but i think its better if they keep using there original writing system. why change? like vietnam also use latin and not ther own.

I think the reason why the Cham in Cambodia uses Cham Jawi instead of original Cham sanskit is because they ran away from their homeland due to war and were only able to take along with them verbal language. Maybe they didn't bring any books or literature that would help them to learn and keep their original writing system and therefore they adobpted the new system (Jawi)

Because the use of Arabic language has become fluent in their daily life through the Quran, it would be a great way to establish a written language that would help them communicate through writing. Currently, to learn the Cham language, you would have to go to Vietnam bc. that's were most of the teachers are. But if you stay in Cambodia, you have little luck. When i compare that spoken language in Vietnam, mainly Phan Rang region and Cambodia, the more correct is spoken by the Cham inCambodia

@piantora What do yo mean we don't know what original Cham language looks like? It looks more like Khmer, because it's from Sanskrit. And I know it's part of the Austronesian family, you don't need to tell me that.
