I am looking for video character recognition - the software would copy the video text and copy it into a .txt file. Where can I get a free open source copy of this software.
Unfortunately free-ocr(dot)com puts limits on the number of uploads (max. 10 per hour) and the size of images. Although it solves a problem for Linux users, insofar as I know of no good free/low-cost OCR programs for Linux, I'd much rather have an installable OCR program for Linux, even it's only up to Windows OCR programs of 10 years ago, and I'd be willing to spend $30-$60 for the software. Otherwise, Linux has excellent scanner support.
I would recommend giving ocrconvert a go as well, I’ve found it quite fast and accurate with my image and PDF files, also there’s no limit on the number of files that you can process.
Mate your a genius.! thanks so much, I'd been pissin about with Adobe/Apple and god only knows how many others trying to work this out, i click onto you, and within seconds my problem is solved.! Apple/Adobe & Co could well do with someone who speaks OUR language, the language of ''I've got better things to do than waste 4 hrs trying to work through their long winded Brew Ha Ha.! you work it out instantly, go son......Peter Bainbridge
I love these types of things from Chris Pirillo, learned so much about what's free online from his vids - plus I can trust his always-balanced opinions.
i love ur channel and vids chris you always have something interesting with software i can use thanx and i will have to check the newest pc world mag and see if you wrote an article too
that's why he behaves like a twat half the time, it's an actual condition he's got.
Okay, I'm gonna be much more tolerant now, and I might even finally subscribe because he is pretty good - wouldn't have discovered Tonido without him.
its about tech, please PLEASE un sub to him if your not into it. he is all about tech, and plenty of people like his vids about this, seeing how u arent a computer geek, here is an example of how you could use this software. you could scan your math book pages in to the computer, convert to text, put on ipod and voila, plenty of answers for the test :)
i was a bit durr about what it was used for and im pretty into computers and all weird tech kinds of things but i never had the use for it so i never tried learning or using it. thank you for the explanation ^_^
dunno where you get your freeware from but i've gotten a lot of legally free stuff and never had any viruses and chris is hardly likely to advertise anything that will destroy our systems or his.
is it just me or is open source software just looking like such a good alternative these days for the majority of average joe pc users.

OCR will let people spam, when you signup for somthing you have to enter the text in the image to stop macros spaming, lol but besides that it wiked
scopes20 2 years ago
why would people go through the trouble of downloading the capatcha and then uploading it in free ocr and then copying it in other website???
that's just not worth it, they might aswell enter the text manually

"OCheR" would be nicer pronunciation than "OCR". If only the 'e' meant something, this could be a legit acronym :(
