@jeebs6 may I answer ... in the Islamic law .. there is something called " النظرة الشرعية " which means that the man and woman can meet each other " without sex " during the engagement time .. if they like each other they keep on and if they don't they simply stop .. it's so simple if you want it simple .. putting into an account that the decision is in between the woman's hands now 'cause the man ask and the acceptance or denial is left for the woman .. I'm so glad to fnally see the full version of this video! I just love Suzan...she is so intelligent and straight forward. She really gives you full insight into the life of a working Saudi woman. There's no oppression here....just clarity and honor in her faith and beliefs.
And yes, obviously the woman creating this documentary had her own ideas and beliefs going in-it is only natural. The most important part to me was that she gave me more information from the actual people in it than her own ideas...she left a lot of open space for the viewer to create their own opinions.

First of all, Men are above women in only in strength...lets not take verses out of context.
Secondly, the only reason men got more inheritance is because men had to bare ALL the financial burdens. Men had to pay ALL bills and ALL the family exspences. The women had NO financial burdens and therefore she was FREE to spend her money on HER OWN PERSONAL needs such as LUXURY ITEMS. So even though the man got more it went to bills and his family, NOT HIM. How is that sexist? Oh wait, it's not.

SLAUGHTER ,KILLINGS ordained in Islam.
sura# 8:67 (translation by Picktall) It is not for any Prophet to have captives until he hath made SLAUGHTER in the land. Ye desire the lure of this world and Allah desireth (for you) the Hereafter, and Allah is Mighty, Wise.
Sura (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be MURDERED or CRUCIFIED or their HANDS and their FEET should be CUT OFF on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"
Saudi Wahabis are the true jahils of the Muslim World. All they've managed to do with the endless wealth flowing out of their land is to spread hate in the name of Islam. But when it comes to truly helping the ummah they claim to love, these ignorant homunculi can't move beyond Uncle Sam's lead. Case in point; Palestine. With even a small fraction of their wealth the Saudis could've made AAPAC a force in American politics, but instead they buy American mineral water to wash their asses.
This is because in the history of mankind humans have learned that are not meant to be monogamist. To want other man's woman unleashes all kind of catastrophs in human relations. Muslims have solve this by hiding women's body from anyone else that are not her relatives. Many years after that christianism has invented an upgrade to the solution: monogamy and marriage. This way people live more peacefully. Without this rules any community would be nothing but chaos with males fighting for females.

@jeebs6 may I answer ... in the Islamic law .. there is something called " النظرة الشرعية " which means that the man and woman can meet each other " without sex " during the engagement time .. if they like each other they keep on and if they don't they simply stop .. it's so simple if you want it simple .. putting into an account that the decision is in between the woman's hands now 'cause the man ask and the acceptance or denial is left for the woman .. "Chastisement" can only be considered lawful if it does not aggravate the problem, beating is NOT the standard! The Prophet avoided it!
eg. if I do not agree with capital punishment for any crime whatsoever does that mean the lawmakers do not value human life?

Those you can often travel to Beirut, Syria, Tunisia and other Arab countries that are much more liberal so that they can do all the things they can't in SA such as drink alcohol, go dancing, engage in pre-marital sex and do other things forbidden in the Quran. 5 will get you 10 they don't go to pray 5 times a day.

Every year Scholars educated in Saudi-Arabia with extreme intolerant views are pored into the UK, try to brainwash young Muslims. The same Scholars try to brainwash us Muslim women into believing the burqa is a requirement in Islam we all should put it on.

Freedom to go and come whenever I like without being harassed, the freedom to get medical help without asking a male family, the freedom to open a bank account and use my money the way I have need for it. There is a wonderful book you can’t go wrong with this book its holy and precious, it’s called the Quran. Read it, try to memorise it, act on it, then give it to ‘your women’ so she can act on it as well and one day Insha Allah, she can come out and say proud she used to be a shopaholic, but now she is cured from the illness in her heart.

I don’t know why you refusing the laws on women as traditions and customs when it clearly shows it’s un-Islamic. @nafism6969 Also if the Saudi government cared so much about Islam and the five pillars, then they would not charge every year millions of pious Muslims outrages amount of money before allowing them the Hajj. Another thing the government would have done something about it is the women cruising around the shops everyday. The government would have them involved in charity work or something beneficial, something Islamic, so no what’s happening over there does not have anything to do with Islam.

I hope this documentry has given a good representation of wat living in Saudi is like for women. If this is so, it seems quite oppresive. The right not to enter the same places, seems as a burden. Also I can not emagine women not wanting to contribute to society. It seems now they may only contribute just by parenting and nurishing the children. Excluding some elite women.

@Melchior119 I think Saudi Arabian society is def not for everyone. plain and simple. some love it. some hate it. it is def not "free" society. but there is a tremendous amount of peace and security there. there is no upheavel or riots or anger.
it really is a beautiful place. I love it. others hate it. and with women, not everyone women wants a career. some do some dont. its just not a necessity in Saudi Arabia for a women to work.

And yes, obviously the woman creating this documentary had her own ideas and beliefs going in-it is only natural. The most important part to me was that she gave me more information from the actual people in it than her own ideas...she left a lot of open space for the viewer to create their own opinions.
And to some of the comments, I also agree that we should not be saying one culture is superior over another. That is counterproductive and extremely ignorant.

This is a great documentary that gives a real open dialogue without extreme bias. I really enjoyed watching it-well done to everyone that played a part in it.
I would also like to say I completely agree with what the woman said at the end-don't expect us to change to Western values. Let us change to our own.
People need to remember their own histories before putting down others.

Please look at the number of illgt births, teen pregnancies, prostitution, violence in porn, west women's oppession with their bodies being skinny,eating disorders, plastic surgery, ect and then ask who is more oppressed. And most of what you are mentioning are some problems but more on a minute level. And you times that by the population. The system we have set up here is far better than what they have over there. The woman creating this documentary is very biased, you can tell that she went to S.A to prove her point and that was it. I am a westerner, from the U.S. Sadly this journalist believes that women in her country for some reason are less oppressed. So what do you call porn? Rape, violence against women. However this journalist seems to imply adopting vast western ways will liberate s.a women and by not doing it now, she is doesn't really get it. But the women are not western so why would they whole heartedly adopt that life? In the end she asked the prince to find the verse in the koran that shows women are equal. Is that not a lil unfair? First of all, Men are above women in only in strength...lets not take verses out of context.
Secondly, the only reason men got more inheritance is because men had to bare ALL the financial burdens. Men had to pay ALL bills and ALL the family exspences. The women had NO financial burdens and therefore she was FREE to spend her money on HER OWN PERSONAL needs such as LUXURY ITEMS. So even though the man got more it went to bills and his family, NOT HIM. How is that sexist? Oh wait, it's not.

This is because in the history of mankind humans have learned that are not meant to be monogamist. To want other man's woman unleashes all kind of catastrophs in human relations. Muslims have solve this by hiding women's body from anyone else that are not her relatives. Many years after that christianism has invented an upgrade to the solution: monogamy and marriage. This way people live more peacefully. Without this rules any community would be nothing but chaos with males fighting for females.
