Thank you for this. I love Wedge and have the entire Rogue Squadron series that Dark Horse comics did of him and his pilots. He's a wonderful character, and I think to this day Denis Lawson is still surprised by the cult status of him.

@MrJediknight101 NOT TRUE! watch the movie, Luke clearly says Wedge's name 2 or more times "Wedge, I've lose my gunner... you have to take the shot" If you read any book that has Wedge, Jason (his gunner) or Hobbie (Red 2) in it they talk about them surviving the Battle of Hoth... another fact for you, Wedge piloted an X-Wing to escape Hoth and with Luke helped the last transport to get through the blockade

Let's put it this way. Wedge Antilles kicks more ass in three minutes of screen time than any other character in the Star Wars Trilogy does in three hours of screen time. Okay, Harrison Ford kicks some serious ass, but does Harrison Ford survive two Death Star Runs? No. The only person to do that is Wedge Antilles. So give it up for Wedge Antilles, the greatest pilot in the Galaxy!

I find it rather amusing how people go all out on Wedge for losing his stabilizer and having to pull out of the trench. If he hadn't, there are hundreds of later missions that would never have been successful, for example, the run on the 2nd Death Star. And even if that didn't occur, he had no stabilizer, so he had a good chance of crashing into Biggs.

wedge is only under noticed in real life. In universe he's the biggest alliance fighter pilot legend besides luke.

He is underrated as a tactician though. He was always considered good but not really a genius of large scale battle tactics like Bel Iblis, Acbar, or Thrawn. Yet he very often took out much larger forces using very little, and well, read Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand. Just no words for the amount of ass kickage there.
