@DrFrankenmac You might want to tell your director that FSU has the support of the Seminole Indian tribe. When the NCAA decided that tribal names were offensive, and wanted FSU to change the team names, the Seminole Indians spoke up and voiced their support.

I'm an OSU fan but the War Chant is such a powerful tune that I can't help but love it. My band used to play this at every game. But one overly PC person complained to my director that it was "racist". What's worse is that he caved and stopped using it. C'mon people! It's not intended to offend anyone or incite anti-Native-American sentiment. It's just an innocent stand tune intended to pump up the fans and players.

@austinjynx Your schools may call it "War Drums" but the it IS "War Chant" at FSU. If you don't believe me, I'll go find some of my old sheet music. The Braves have a licensed copy played by Marching Chiefs and you're high school is not special as so many schools, including my high school alma mater, play a bastardized version of it.

Please, please give it a shot, I promise you won't regret it. I'm one of the people shown at the beginning, I did 5 years in the Marching Chiefs, and it was probably the single best decision of my life. I have a few really good friends who did four and five years in the trumpet section, if you'd like to talk to someone about it :)

Also, if you decide not to do Chiefs, there are plenty of other ensembles you can perform in. I'd be happy to elaborate if you're interested!

The Prism concert features the Marching Band and other groups from the School of Music. Some of the Chiefs play in other ensembles in the concert, and dress for that group. For example, you can see the baritone players at the left wearing black, from the baritone group performance.
